Fun Fact: If you pay attention at the point where Appa reaches Ba Sing Se.... The pantherlings that helped Momo were on the roof and saw him fly in.

Before the episode: "I want to see Appa again" During the episode: not like this

The part where Appa lets Suki touch him, and he's finally able to relax for the first time in a long time always breaks me.

This episode won a Humane Society award for its accurate depiction of animal cruelty. Its the same award that was won by Finding Nemo, the Iron Giant, Jurassic World 2, and more. It is without a doubt the saddest episode in the show, with the Tale of Iroh following closely behind.

I've been waiting for you to see this episode ever since the end of season 1, such a satisfying payoff to the mystery

Avatar Extras Appa’s Lost Days (also referred to as: Leave Appa Alone!) This episode received a Genesis Award from the Humane Society in the category "Outstanding Children's Programming" for it’s interpretation of animal cruelty. 3:26 meet the circus trainer and this is the same circus that Ty Lee was at when Azula recruited her. Since she left, attendance has been down so they need a new starring act. They were hoping that Appa could fill that void. This is the only episode besides "Zuko Alone" in which Katara and Sokka have no dialogue. In the series, the writers and creators always made sure to show Appa as a main character (and not just as a vehicle). 7:17 we warned you. You weren’t ready… 8:49 Appa and Aang are very connected that they share the same dreams. 9:43 True. Usually this wouldn't be much of a match, but Appa is pretty weak plus he is shackled. 12:06 None of the Kyoshi Warriors are benders so they are at a disadvantage. Imagine watching the show on TV. We had to wait 4 months before we knew what had happened to Appa And then all of this trauma happened 😭😭

I still remember clearly i was 11yrs waited for like 2-3 months to see appa When i saw the title i was sooooo happy thinking aang and aapa will reunite only to see this 😢 I was crying like crazy cuddleing my pet dog my mom had to console me

I don't think Appa just now acquired the fear of fire. In "The Cave of Two Lovers" fire in the form of a torch landing at his feet was what triggered Appa freaking out and causing the cave in that separated the Sokka and the band from Aang and Katara.

As I remember it, it wasn't that Appa was afraid of the fire. Rather, I do believe that the fire actually burned him.

To put into prospective... The Libray episode was release July 14th 2006...we didn't get this ep until October 13th 2016. It is not like there was a manga we could read. Everyone watching it had to find out the same time. So we were all missing Appa for a few months.

this episode is on my no-watch list. I cannot see appa suffer through all this. this episode was so accurate with the animal abuse it earned an actual genesis award for the depiction of animal abuse for human entertainment.

My tears always fall down seeing this episode. Trust me, that moments when Aang says: this mean we always be together and both dreaming; that’s heartbreaking 💔 By the way my favorite character is Katara! Such a great reaction!

What were all waiting for

The circus that Appa was sold to was the one Ty Lee was part of. In fact they bought Appa as an attempt to replace her act.

I know we all love Appa but the saddest thing i ever seen in this show was Iroh crying last episode . I tear up every time i see that clip with him singing "Leaves from the Vines" .

You excitedly exclaiming "Yoshi's Island!" When you saw Suki and the other warriors, it made my day. Keep up the good work and keep making people's days!

Can you imagine seeing last episode... then waiting a full week for this one. And then a full week for the next one??

Hi Melon This episode really hits hard Appa lost days is one of the most emotional episodes in Avatar the last Airbender Plus love the Suki and Appa moment

I'm not the first person to mention this, but it is true that this episode won a Genesis Award from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). The HSUS is the U.S.' largest Animal Protection organisation, and the Genesis Award is given annually to individuals in media, Media Organisations, or pieces of media which have made a considerable impact of advancing the cause of Animal Protection that year. _Appa's Lost Days_ won in the category "Outstanding Children's Programming", the only winner to ever win in that particular category.

I don’t know if you know this but, it is shown to be common in the extended media for Sky bison and the air nomad they bond eith to be from different air temples. Aang from the south Appa from the east. Yanchen from the west Nujian from the north. (His name is pronounced closer to New-jeeon it mean arrow, Yanchen was like seven when she named him.)

Lol Half this reaction is just Ani making destressed sounds lol Defiantly one of my favorite episodes. There's something great about animated story telling that uses little or no words. You said the Guru is going to help Aang but the Guru just did help Aang. Appa so far has been extremely important to Aang's success. Just think about how much weaker the group is without him right now. Stuck in this city getting handled when they could have just flown right to the Earth King palace. My favorite characters are Toff and Iroh And I really like Sokka but Appa is for sure the most important character in the series.

I love Suki’s loyalty to the group. She goes as far as to waist time in a fight to send Appa away allowing Azula to hit her unprepared. There is a cools fan comic by kkachi95, the artist so good that Avatar studios sole art from him. It is a bit spoilery, for the Kyoshi books. But for fans you should check it out. He made a comic of the extended fight between Azula and Suki.

Hot take: The Tale of Iroh ain't got shit on Appa's Lost Days.
