I love how Appa went to the same places the gaang did, but they don't give him as much trouble as they did to the gaang. He navigated the desert pretty quickly. He beat the vulture-wasps pretty easily. You see how the gaang would not have struggled nearly as much if they had him.

Poor Appa, he's been through so much and all to just get back to Aang. This episode honestly made the separation even more heartbreaking. The promise to always be together basically broken...How they both dreamt of each other...My heart just hurts every time! I also loved how despite Appa being a non-talking character, there's still so much emotional depth to everything in this episode. Aang is from the Southern Air Temple. Where he met Appa was the Eastern Air Temple. The Northern Air Temple had those refugees living there, remember? Back in S1, they had a battle with the Fire Nation as well? Fun fact: This episode won the Genesis Award from The Humane Society of the United States for its accurate portrayal of animal cruelty, especially in circuses.

Man, that dreaming moment where Aang says they’ll be together forever and then it cuts to Aang happy and dreaming (the happiest we’ve seen him since Appa left) fucks me up so much. It’s probably in the top three cry-inducing moments in the show, along with Leaves From the Vine and Zuko’s reunion with Iroh.

The circus that Appa was sold to is the same circus shown in "Return to Omashu", which Ty Lee was a part of. Avatar Extras revealed that Ty Lee was one of the starring acts, and Appa was bought by the circus to replace her. The Kyoshi Warriors appear in full costume for the first time since "The Warriors of Kyoshi". The footprint Appa made right before he was captured by Long Feng is the same one seen in "The Tales of Ba Sing Se". This is the second time Azula and her friends find Appa's fur when trying to find Aang.
This is actually the very first episode I saw. I'd heard about Avatar, but I was well older than Nickelodeon's target demographic, so I'd never bothered to watch the show during its initial run. Randomly caught this ep in syndication while flipping channels in a motel room and was mesmerized by the quality storytelling. Knew I had to binge the series asap, then rolled right into Korra, which had just started at the time.

Nah, when the spirit of the moon was put in a sack and everything went red, he said it’s making his head hurt.
There is no Appa in Ba Sing Se.
People who haven't seen ATLA: "You watch cartoons? OMG cartoons are for kids!" ATLA during episodes like "Tales of Ba Sing Se" and "Appa's Lost Days" - "You will learn respect! And suffering will be your teacher!"
I didn't think this was possible. To write an entire episode with much interaction, with a creature that doesn't even speak. The writers for this show are absolutely amazing! Show not yell is absolutely on screen! Just amazing!
The feels of Ba Sing Se will always be to strong.
i love the fact that u guys acknowledged Ty Lee as the most dangerous of the 3
Why is Appa so cute when he stares innocently, even when he's full grown? Also, I like how Aang has matured emotionally from the beginning of the show up until his point. He's gotten really good at restraining himself from being overcome with emotion, sending him into the Avatar State.
After rewatching so many episode so many times, I think this is the first time I comprehended that the 3 panthercats (or w.e they are) at 12:46 were the ones that were in Momo's short story and led him to the foot print
Remember Aang was meant to be separated from Kyatsu and sent to train elsewhere, you could probably assume that was Guru Patik. Also when the Guru felt Appa's temple, those lines that link us all were also shown in the swamp episode x
Ok the dream hit me harder than usual especially when he Aang said always
You know what? Now I wonder what Sokka and Katara's dad thinks when he saw Appa but he didn't see his children and the avatar with him.

The sandbender catamaran that Appa accidentally blows into a sandbank is the same one Team Avatar later discovers in "The Desert". The umbrella that a sandbender retrieves from Appa's saddle is the same one that Team Avatar got from the calm man in "The Fortuneteller". The way Guru Pathik read Appa's energy in order to find Aang mirrors how Aang found Appa and Momo by reading the energy of the banyan-grove tree in "The Swamp". This is the only episode of the series besides "Zuko Alone" in which Katara and Sokka have no dialogue.
That ending had me BEYOND ANGRY.
Not a lot of reactors picked up on Sokka’s dad 👏🏽👍🏽
12:46 you see the cats from Momo's tale see Appa flying by.
In the scene right after Aang meets Appa, a lion turtle statue can be seen in the background. Appa is one of the few characters on the show to bleed; the first was Zuko during his battle with Azula. When Appa smells the honey, he enters the cave-like hive to try and find it. However, as is later revealed by Aang, Appa has a fear of caves and usually cannot be convinced to go in one at all. It is likely that he only entered because he was motivated by hunger and the desperate need to survive.
Fun fact: There's always one person who will comment about how this episode won an award in every reaction channel🤣
2:30 Even bound and tied down Appa still made sure the group had a way out. He’s a once in a lifetime friend
The nastiest part of this episode is the instinct to assume the gaang will be reunited at the end of the episode keeps you pushing through the pain and then sucker-punches you at the end one last time. It's gut-wrenching.
I shamelessly cry everytime I watch this episode 😭😭😭😭😭

These have become my most anticipated videos every week! Love watching y'all react to this beautiful show.
This episode always brings me to tears it’s so heartbreaking
This episode and Jurassic Bark from Futurama made me cry all the time as a Kid
I love how even while being kidnapped Appa is still the reason why the Gang makes it out of the desert. If he hadnt buried that sand speeder they wouldve died.
I'm not crying, my eyes just hurt from staring at my computer all day.
And then we get the Two-punch with this one. They REALLY wanted to break us
The tranq that was used on Appa must've been pure because our fav flying Bison went down in like 2 seconds flat. I need to take a hit off that cause I trouble getting some snoozing.
Fun fact: Zuko only sleeps with the side without his scar around people he trusts as demonstrated at 7:51 when Iroh saw Appa!
honestly it hurts me how distressed Appa was when Suki was forcing him to leave🥺
Guru Patek is perhaps the oldest character in the show, and shows how differently and somewhat mythical the lifespans are here. He's 150 years old, he was already 38 when Aang was born and 50 when the century-long war started, he's seen all of it. All of Zuko's ancestors that started the war died in his lifetime.
my heart breaks every single time i see this episode, it’s such a pain

Appa was going through it.
i've seen this maybe a dozen times but was today years old when i noticed the cats from the tale of momo sitting on the roof at 12:47 right before Long Feng got him
13:05 I’ve seen this episode probably 10 times in my life and I’m just now realizing that Long Feng went down there with him when he flipped the ground over , he took both of them down there..
