I remember one night, about 3-4am. MTV Europe in the late 80s into the mid 90s would play incredible music overnight. I had a tape in the machine and recorded this. I think there was NASA footage of Jupiter (the mysterious and wondrous planet) with this track behind it. There was no track info. I have waited 20 odd years to find out what this was. I'm so pleased - as you can imagine! I have a LOT of Aphex Twin, yet not this. Until now. But I believe things happen for a reason. I find the track via a one hour loop of it. How perfect is that? It's just... right. Isn't it? Aphex is Blessed music.

wow, that's unbelievable. i know the feeling of an important thing haunting you for years and one day casually makes itself known, but not with this. [i.e. the perfume of the first girl i french kissed in middle school, 23 yrs later] selected ambient works vol ii is one of the most important albums, imo of his discography and at all. i got it at a cd store and walked around in the snow on a diskman skipping school to study this and not a reiteration of christopher fucking colombus, after reading articles about it's alien-like textures and the way it was described help prime me for it. i forget if it was a magazine or what, maybe a warp records catalogue or possibly on the internet but it was well before i had a home computer. so cool how when you heard it you knew you had to save it. go listen to the whole double album and stone in focus and vol i ✔️

@@lovedeathdisco Thanks for the recommendations Damian. One part of my strange selective autism (finally getting a diagnosis a few years ago made so many things clear) is that I've always had a "musical memory". It works in two ways: One is the ability to replay, almost video like, the places and people around when I heard the music for the first time. I quite enjoy this, and I know that many people have this. When I was a kid, I thought of it as my musical diary. Second, the ability to replay music in head. This would drive me mad when I was really little, as "earworms" would loop repeatedly when I tried to sleep. But an advantage is that I can "strip down" music, isolating bass lines, drum patterns etc. I once tried to find out whether the "head music" was stereo or mono. I played a load of binaural stuff over and over, and discovered it was indeed stereo. Third, if I hear something, a snippet of music even, and I like it, I obsess over it until I at last temrack it down. For example, one year in my country, there was an advertisement for a children's charity. The music used got to me, and I couldn't rest until I found it. I had to contact the charity, their PR people, and finally the makers of the ad. It was "An Ascent" by the amazing Brian Eno. This was a good few years back mow. One day, when it popped into my head again, I discovered a ONE HOUR mix of the track on YT. I would recommend *that* version to anyone. Some of the comments below are so wonderful they can bring you to tears. So Damian, again I thank you for the recommendations. I first heard of Aphex through the video "Come To Daddy" which straight up blew my mind. Just recently I saw the video for a new track of his (slipped my mind right now) but it's like a computer designed alien planet landscape. He's a genius. Eno was a pioneer, but Aphex has taken the baton and run like hell with it. Do let me know if you fancy chatting off YT. I also create music, mainly ambient and electronic dance type stuff, sample heavy. The are a few videos on YT from the sixth album, all about the liquidators of Chernobyl made in 2007 (for a charity that helps the kids in orphanages affected by the genetic damage of high background radiation). So yes, anytime you fancy talking further, please let me know. All the best, and stay safe!

Isn't this marvelous? Every time I return here, I reread through the comments and, for a moment, I feel your experiences and it is almost like we were having a conversation, even when I see the _X years ago_ tag, I still feel like we are all sitting in a circle in a forest, the damp chilly air blowing through the trees as we share a small but important piece of ourselves. I just love this piece. I can listen to it whether I'm happy or going through a low spot in my depression, and it always speaks to me, it always helps me in some way. It creates a timeless space where I can just exist, a clarity akin to a white void, but one where I can reflect on my life without feeling any shred of judgement or remorse. This truly makes me glad to be alive.

My grandfather passed away 4 years ago. He was my best friend, a true soulmate. He was the happiest and calmest person I had ever known. He lived in a countryside and I spent a lot of time there with him, mostly in my childhood. My best memory of him is one day, I was 16-17, decided to visit him without telling anyone. It was sunny summer day with blue-blue sky and heavy white clouds drifring as some dreamy mountains. It was midday, so I knew he would be somewhere not far with his goats on a walk (he had two of them). So I went to the fields by one of the sandy roads right to the hill, his favourite spot. And I was right, he was there, I saw him from afar, lying on one elbow on the green grass. His face was turned to the sun, eyes closed and he was smiling. I've never seen anyone happier than he was in that moment. I stopped and watched him enjoying life for several minutes. It was so beautiful that this image still exists in my memory in smallest details. I miss, you granddad. You tought me everything and even more. When I listen to this track I alsmost return to that day and feel such a warm feeling like he's hugging me. Thank you Aphex, and you guys in the comments. Life is trully amazing.

This comes to mind when listening to this: clouds, violently cold yet peaceful weather, cold beautiful marble, dark blue seas, deep ocean, ancient ruins, an endless hall with a clock at the very end of it, blue, precision, competence, heaven, peace, harmony, serenity, tranquility, transcendence, white and cold.

After a bit inspiration I decide to add these to the list: dense fog in a prairie, empty airport at 05:10 AM, achieving something in silence, crystal clear ice, monumental iceberg, endless beach at the Namibian dessert shoreline, camping at the Sokotra island, depths of the ocean descent, closure with the past women of my life, cold, lonely, outstandingly successful and skillful.

My mom passed away 6 months ago and it’s been difficult to process. She was my best friend. I told her everything about my life and she knew exactly what to say. By all accounts I was a momma’s boy. I’ve lived in this reality where I just think she’s on a long vacation. It’s a weird thing our brains can do when you lose someone or something, that it can auto-correct this reality where all is okay. This song is the only thing I can listen to make me accept that she’s gone. It’s nice that a reality can exist in audio form as opposed to something you can physically see or touch. Whenever I want to think about my mom I listen to this song. I can think of all the good times and accept that she’s gone. Music has more power to the mind than what I used to give credit for.

As someone who is really close with there mom I absolutely feel your heartache and the reality that one day my mother will be gone effects me everyday and is something that is in the back of my mind and I am constantly preparing myself for. I just want to say that death is not the end when we pass on we leave are physical body's and return to the source. Your Ma has left her physical form and is now a part of everything and while it hurts to not be able to talk or hug her the reality is you should be happy for her because when we die all the pain and non sense of the physical world ceases to exist and we return to state of love an acceptance in preparation for the beginning of the cycle. This universe always has been and always will be. In order for there to be nothing there has to something and for there to beginning there has to be an ending. The one thing that is everlasting is love and as long as you never forget that she is never gone the heart is the true resting place of those who have come before us that we love and cherish.

Yo, you should upload more stuff like this, I definitely think there's an audience for this kinda stuff. Slater is a guy who slows down and adds reverb to rap songs, and he blew up pretty big. Your pictures are extremely good choices too, you got the aesthetic.

Listened to this and other Aphex Twin songs when I was studying Organic Chemistry. It sounded AWESOME for the subject and Apphex Twins really made a nice impression for me. Aphex Twin is really good at capturing a certain emotional feeling with his songs in a way that is hard to describe. Listening to this while studying to become a medical doctor and can attest that this song and others by Aphex Twins has really helped me out along the way.

This magical track always reminds me of a huge swarm of birds flying south when the seasons change… I grew up in a villa in the middle of a forest near the lakes in East-Sweden where you could see this very often . Blue Calx and many other AFX tracks brings me back to that place .

THIS BRINGS BACK MEMORIES!. I once took acid while already on a trip with my family. The "double trip" didn't start showing until my 6 year old brother asked what I was looking at, when I had been staring at the men's bathroom door for 20 minutes. I told him "you wouldn't get it" as he rolled his eyes and proceeded into the bathroom embarrassed. The next thing I remember is being lost outside somewhere, anxiously clamoring to my sides as I searched for my phone only to realize I was wearing swim trunks. "where was I"?? "When am I"?? My thoughts were quickly interrupted by a teenage staff member who sarcastically asked if I was lost - he quickly lost his composure when I quickly replied "Yes, Where am I". I was standing in the middle of the lobby of the Hilton hotel I had checked in with my family an hour earlier. He then proceeded to laugh off my question as a practical joke but when I proceeded his eyes quickly showed terror when he realized I really didn't know where I was. He awkwardly stuttered out a response "let me get my manager" before nearly tripping over himself on the way out of this conversation. My next memory came at the expense of some poor pedestrian who quickly regretted their Samaritan approach to asking me if I was lost when they saw me standing in the middle of an intersection outside the hotel. I mumbled some sarcastic comment their way as they awkwardly tripped over them self, my amusement was quickly interrupted by my realization of how meaningless all of this was. The hotel, the vacation with my family - we didn't talk about anything meaningful on the way over here. This whole trip felt like some RPG side mission. I truly didn't understand who I am or the people I was related to. Sadly this was the most meaningful experience of my life. I soon had an epiphany that I should open up to my family about my thoughts and feelings. I realized that there were so many more potential interactions to have with my father regarding these feelings. My excitement spiked with the thought of me talking to my family before the the honking of a Greyhound bus horn before they could hit their breaks and not hit -------------------------- sorry about that my Stephen Hawking keyboard glitched out when my PTSD of that bus incident occurred. The happy ending here is that I have reconciled with my family and we are closer now that my dads problematic abuse has been addressed. He ended up killing himself unfortunately, but he cant hurt anyone anymore. Aphex Twin is only for smart people with 135+ IQ, thankfully i've been able to meet so many amazing individuals using those prerequisites. If you understand what I mean, please apply to Brown University, I personally know the admissions officer there. And know he didn't touch me inappropriately because i have been paralyzed from the neck down since the Greyhound incident.
