    Too many fighters on the roster to have less cards a year. I know people always want big names and every card should at least have 1, but that’s the time for these younger athletes to get their exposure. Not saying I’m not tried of the Apex, because I think the fighters deserve to fight in front of a crowd and not just Lizard Man Mark Zuckerberg or Steve-O. But if the Apex means more fights a year and more divisional movement, I’m here for it

    I agree a lot of these cards are weak but with the UFC signing more fighters and it growing as an organization do they really have a choice but to have more events? And a lot of these cards feature fighters that might go on to later greatness. UFC 301 is def wack tho.

    First time I've ever heard a UFC should have less stacked ppv cards take lol. For better or for worse ufc has taken over it's own developmental organizations so what you're seeing is the result of that. I agree but I also think we're in a transitional, adjustment period where we'll get more familiar with newer talent.

    I agree, the apex cards are so weak I skip 95% of them. However, when it comes to pay-per-view cards they are definitely doing everything in their power to get as many big fights as possible on them. They go to the lengths of using dirty tactics, announcing fights before they’re signed, etc. I’m not sure there’s really much more they can do other than pay bonuses for filling in important slots. Fighters are already fighting injured and on short notice frequently-and it’s gonna be tough to get that to increase. Until they either give in and offer more money or produce more stars, there just won’t be enough big fights to go around.

    You don't need to watch every UFC card. Different cards serve different purposes. Apex cards allow the UFC to hold average professional fights for up and coming talent or lower ranked fighters. The Apex cards facilitate better Fight Nights and PPVs as they allow the fighters to show the brass to "what they've got". You could call Apex fights a necessary evil or a good system for talent recognition.

    As soon as they were able to secure guaranteed money, and didn't have to rely so much on PPV money this was always going to happen. They have so many cards that just exist for their TV deals and they can afford to not make them exciting, put fighters on there the world has never heard of, because they are the cheapest product. They also now have their own venue that doesn't cost them anything to stage events. Its easy money for them.

    There are many factors why they need to have these cards. They have to have so many events due to their deal with ESPN. The Apex cards are an easy and cheap way to put on a show for ESPN+. They don’t need to book a venue, sell tickets, and drive 20 trucks across the country with hundreds of employees to set up the event. They also have almost 2000 fighters on the roster, and they ALL have contracts that guarantee them fights. The deal with ESPN goes through 2025. It was worth $1,500,000,000 TBH, the UFC doesn’t need ESPN anymore. The UFC should have their own app for PPVs and various content, and stream non-PPV events for free on youtube.

    0:13 Honestly it's only fair , they've made a monopoly of sorts and with so many guys there they need to put out so much to fufill the contracts. Pero-Wrestling in America does that as well(A dominance of it being WWE) where they sign guys and DON'T give them matches and stuff. Granted the "shelf" life of a fighter is probably significantly more critical due to how quick they're bodies can go from peak to not once they lack fights and such

    The problem isn't the Apex cards themselves, but rather that the talent pool isn't anywhere deep enough for weekly (or near weekly) events. But as long as the UFC continues to pay as poorly as it does, it's just not going to attract premier talent. Why spend months getting smashed for 10k/10k when you can start out making 6 or even 7 figures a year going pro in baseball, football or basketball?

  • @TheKoog97

    @TheKoog97

    13 күн бұрын

    Absolutely wrong. The majority of the UFC roster are not physically built to play professional sports. Go look at the average height and weight of an average football or basketball player. Most UFC fighters are the average joe that can fight well and have strong will power. The reason why you think the talent pool isnt deep is because they are all so evenly matched which creates chess match mma fights. Very rarely do you see half a card dominated by their opponents like you used to when the UFC paid less.

  • @zotmaster

    @zotmaster

    12 күн бұрын

    @TheKoog97 Just for fun, I did. A university of Idaho study found that the average height of non-TE "skill position" players and defensive backs is between 71 and 75 inches, and the average weight is between 200 and 225 lbs. The lower end guys could almost certainly make 185, and the rest would easily make 205. And again, that's just the average skill position player and defensive back. Wes Welker was around 185 during his time in the NFL. Steph Curry is about 185 as well. If you don't think those kinds of guys could cut to 170, you're crazy. So while the big 3 sports wouldn't be churning out flyweights, 170 and up is absolutely reasonable. But why even bother when you can literally add additional zeroes to your bank account by doing something else? Also, while I appreciate your attempt at explaining why I thought the talent pool wasn't deep, the actual reason is because significant chunks of those cards have fighters whose names you won't know even if you watch every event. They might have a few fights, then they're gone. You don't see NFL teams replacing 43 of their 53 man rosters every single year, or NBA teams only retaining 2 or 3 starters and filling the rest with entirely new players. Sure, there's turnover, but nowhere near as much as MMA. That would suggest a relatively shallow pool of MMA talent.

    @@zotmaster with more fighters in the ufc than in the NBA, i’d say its a deep enough roster. Just a vastly different sport than stick and ball sports. Longevity is much shorter and risk is much higher.

    I love how people complain about fighter pay but then also complain that there are too many events lol. What other combat sports organization pays hundreds of people every single weekend of the year? Everything thinks every fighter on the card should make 10 million like Fake Paul (0/1) and Mayweather and other famous boxers who literally only fight once a year from organizations that make events once or twice a year. So many poeple make their livelihoods through the UFC and not a single other organization can compare to the output.

    The biggest thing for me is that most of these fight nights just don't have a crowd. They really don't need to be using the APEX for fight nights at all, they can easily sell out an arena of an 8-10k crowd at $30-150 tickets, it would also incentive them to have a few headlining fights for the fight nights to sell tickets. Not sure why they don't already do this given the fact that the WWE basically sells out 2 arenas a week, the demand is 100% there. I really think the APEX itself and not the frequency of the fight nights.
