How GOOD was Urijah FaberActually?
Urijah Faber is the godfather of the featherweight and bantamweight divisions. The Californian fighter quickly became a star by dominating his opponents with his high level grappling. This lead to him becoming the Gladiator Challenge and King of the Cage bantamweight champion. And then he moved up and became the WEC featherweight champion. Plus, he was very a likeable person. So by the time the UFC introduced the 135 and 145 pounds weight classes, he was the fighter that most people had their eyes on. Although he had many moments with the promotion and was a top bantamweight for them for a long time, he was never able to capture UFC gold. Even after 4 title shots. So how good was Urijah Faber actually?

Ahead of his time when he came in, he really showcased how effective Karate can be in MMA. Was undefeated until he met Shogun Rua who became his kryptonite, was also the first to give Champions Jon Jones and Chris Weidman any trouble in a fight. Not the most entertaining fighter to watch, but an excellent technical striker who successfully managed to capture gold in a very stacked division.

Ya he sucked, he was the equivalent of boxing's Richard Steele, always stopping fights too early without giving the defender a chance to recover. If a dudes not knocked out and still defending himself he should be given the chance to recover and fight back. Ali made a career out of the rope a dope where he let his opponents punch themselves out then knocked them out, Dean or Steele would have stopped those fights.

He finished second in the championship several times and I believe he lost one by a couple points due to a penalty. Great driver in his time just never clinched the title. Uriah Faber is the equivalent in the UFC.

I think the better comparison is Allen Iverson, two flashy small dudes with a big personality who made you respect them and paved the way for a lot of smaller fighters/players. Both are synonymous with the sport and are respected at every fight/game BUT the only real “blemish” on their careers is never winning a championship.

An absolutely information and factual video. Im glad u mentioned jens ( lil evil) pulver. That fight after Fabers loss to Brown was incredible. And 🗣️ of brown. We all know he got lucky bitting faber when he recoiled off the fence. Brown couldnt defend the title and lost it.( Brian Stann) I think. But here is the kick in the ass . Brown V Faber 2 .was uriajhs shot to get thr belt back. The fight scheduled for the Seminole arena in Florida was postponed due to a hurricane. I often feel if that fight would not have been cancelled uriajh woukd not have broken his hand and woukd have one that fight. When i was coming up back in 2010 and training for my blackbelt at i woukd watch his fights and use alot of his standup tequnics. One of the best fighter i have seen and a very personable fellow!
