Can't believe this set is almost 7 years old. This is the tournament that made me want to start playing melee competitively. Insane.

@@anmdragon36 PPMD used to be part of the VGBC before this, but was picked up by Evil Geniuses. But the guy running the stream, gimr, accidentally put him as VGBC | PPMD lol

S2J looks like he legitimately wants to kill himself after he missed that edgeguard during game 3. That could have possibly changed the whole tournament if Johnny would have just pressed L.

You can really see the high level of play possible by Falcon here. Looking forward to seeing S2J's and Mango's comparative Falcon results.

Wow, but I feel like Mango would be risking A LOT to go all Falcon on the next tournaments. Yeah he didn't do so well at Apex. When he played AMSA I was at a loss because I really wanted to Mang0 to win, but I also really wanted Amsa to win

Man... This set was so close to being a major upset. I can only imagine the salty tweets from Hax$ afterwards. Sigh. Maybe the rise of the Falcon will be at EVO. I still believe. ;-;

PP kept approaching with nairs immediately after his lasers. When he's not in range for laser-grab/ laser-jab, S2J needs to wavedash OoS back immediately and punish those approaches.

Since I only watch competitive Melee, I don't know the answer to this: At 8:22, S2J has a string of 3 up throws that PP has perfect DI on, every time. At that percentage, would one of those have been better as a down throw? You can d throw into knee, can't you? I swear, I've seen that before. But all of the latest Falcon videos I watch don't seem to have down throw anymore. I wonder if Falcon players could change the meta if they were able to more reliably use other moves. Falcon Kick has its time and place - Darkrain uses it pretty well. Down tilt is pretty good, isn't it? It seems under used...I dunno, though, like I said, I just watch.

I didn't see a single situation where Falcon Kick would have helped. Nor dtilt. Both moves have their uses, just not against whatever PP was doing. Dthrow knee on spacies is at something close to 200% with bad DI. Uthrow knee doesn't always work if they DI like PP did here.

darkphoenix2 d throw knee doesnt work on fast fallers like the spacies. Its much more reliable on midweights to floaties. D throw usually leads to tech chases on fast fallers.

Downthrow doesn't lead into anything on Falco. It's great to start techchasing, or if they're by the edge you can run off -> knee. Otherwise at reasonable percents downthrow gets you nowhere. Falcon Kick is silly for techchasing but is extremely situational because of its negligible knockback, damage, and its substantial ending lag. It's very easy to shieldgrab. Downtilt is ok for edgeguarding and can sometimes lead to knees.

I may be wrong, maybe its only fox, but I think if you down throw a spacy off the edge and fall with a knee, it can connect. If that's what you were thinking originally, hopefully that helps

Jesse They both play the same exact way, and they are both really balanced. I can understand the smoothness of PM being a negative to high level players who have adjusted to the lag times of melee, but to say "no where near" is just retarded. PM was designed to play like melee, and it does. Some people are really elitist to melee because they have played it first.

Kanade Tachibana It was designed to play like Melee but still doesn't mean it's exactly like Melee. Nothing will ever be like Melee, and that is why Melee is the best in my opinion and many others. I've watched PM matches but I still think Melee is way more hype and entertaining. It's just the characters, and the maps, and like I said, it still doesn't play exactly like Melee. It's just... Melee. The fact that that's how it can be play without mods is hype, and just awesome. Notice how I said "in my opinion" in both my comments? It is my opinion, but the majority would agree with me as well.

Marth vs. Falcon is also one of the most explosive matchups in Melee in the sense that the 0-deaths are much easier on each other in comparison to other matchups. What I'm saying is, any mistake is more crucial than normal in this MU.

Ruling PhantomDJ Mango used to have an account on twitch called "Idestroyppmd" or something along those lines, and he would purposely go into twitch chat rooms where he knew ppmd happened to be, and spam "PPMD Kreygasm", but it didn't catch on until Mango was commentating at a big tournament (I forget which one), and told the story himself. As soon as he finished the story, the chat exploded, and the meme was born.

Literally haven't used my youtube sign in in forever and i know this was in 2015, but i signed in just to say that this commentary was truly terrible and biased. Apex is a high level and professional tournament, I expect better. Saying PP isn't going to make top 8 and he literally wins. Good job Scar, good job.

Toph and Scar are solid commentators but they are often so biased. I know they have personal relationships with S2J, he's a falcon, and the underdog but cmon!

Well, smash 4 has a high speed level again, and i think its very fun to play competetively. its just fine. and as far as brawl goes ( still my favorite) it always gets shit because its not like melee and thats not cool.

+Rich Dagostino You're just not skillful enough to understand or compete in this game. Its no big deal, not everyone can handle Melee. Also, Young Link and ness suck, but if you want to see those chars, you can look up Simna for Ness, Axe, and Armada for Young Link. Plenty of people play the not so common characters, but don't expect to see them winning a major tournament....Thats just foolish thinking.

Anyone else done with these dumb s*** commentators that are full of themselves I give anyone who truly believes in the destruction of things to take their experience
