If your referring to Portal, then it would be true. But Portal 2's timeline (I'm sure everybody knows this) is centuries after Portal takes place. The Combine already invaded Earth in Portal 1. Although status about the Combines or any presence of Xen life forms are unknown in the end of Portal 2, it's better to think that the Combines have already been vanquished on Earth...

Did you know, during GLaDOS' boss fight, in Portal 1, she directly mentions the combine, and their effect on the world. "Are you trying to escape? [chuckle] Things have changed since the last time you left the building. What's going on out there will make you wish you were back in here. I have an infinite capacity for knowledge, and even I'm not sure what's going on outside. All I know is I'm the only thing standing between us and them. Well, I was. Honestly speaking, sometimes I'm not sure which is worse, the combine or aperture. The combine is just straight up evil and not subtle about it. The way aperture treats people is honestly harrowing when you think about it, and they do it while smiling and telling you what a good test subject you are.

Afraid there are a few errors in this that I noticed. The use of the mentally ill and orphans was from and early version of Apertures history that was changed before the game came out. That was from a time when Cave Johnson was rather evil rather than just off the wall. They still used hobo's for tests though. Another mistake is that just about the time of the accident at Black Mesa (The Resonance Cascade at the start of Half Life) GLaDOS took over the Enrichment Center and locked it down (killing many within and the survivors hid from her in the depths of the facility. It was never abandon by hey staff, they never had a chance to leave. It's been stated by the devs that the Combine did actually try to get into the Enrichment Center, but failed (It's unknown what happened though). Strangely enough GLaDOS may be the one thing native to Earth that the so called G-Man is wary of. GLaDOS is utterly uncontrollable and very hard to predict. She also has access to a large amount of resources and very advanced technology in many different fields. (Artificial Intelligence, portal tech, robotics, weapons, and more) as well as production capability. The struggle for the Borealis may cause GlaDOS to turn her attention to the world outside the Enrichment Center and who knows what could happen then. sm

Actually, I don't think GLaDOS would send out an army of robots to fight. I think she would make more subtle moves like pretending to a normal person on a radio and giving information that would help the Resistance (Chell might know who it was though) or doing something remotely to screw over the Combine. Remember that there is an AI (The Overwatch AI) that controls a lot of stuff for the Combine? I wonder what would happen if GLaDOS hacked it? Imagine all the chaos she should would gleefully cause. :) sm

@GlaDOSCake122 Sadly, I don't think she fought them off. More like she fooled them into thinking they had found the Enrichment Center and explored all of it when in fact she had sealed the place up and they never found the real lace. If the Combine even had a hint of Aperture's portal tech they would have dropped a huge army on the EC and never given up until they took the whole place. However that brings up an old idea I hade. @@mattwoodard2535 This is extremely headcanon territory but in my potential fanfic story, the Combine infiltrated when GLaDOS fell and took the particle tech, the actual portal tech was too complicated for them to augment, they were only getting somewhere with local portals thanks to Mossman's knowledge, and even then it was still WIP because of time dilation issues, energy inefficiency and instability, all of their portals on Earth got blown up and shut down. But they rebuilt GLaDOS and found the Borealis through her black box. That's why the ship contents were signed by GLaDOS, they went through her memory banks and overriding until she recalled only her death.
