Antique Door Bell Restoration - Restoration Videos.
Hello again everyone. I'm with you again with a great project. A project that contains metal,brass, wood and a lot more. An electrical doorbell, made by American C.F. Thomson-Huston company in Paris. This product is a great concept, both design-wise and practicality-wise which mesmerized me, which I think it would to you as well. From what I have been told by the seller of this product, I have learned that it came from a mansion. At first glance, you can see that metal pieces were heavily corroded. The wood case blackened due to moisture and with metal pieces they were painted multiple times. But wood wasn’t rotten. When I opened it, there were plenty of spiders and spider webs. The coils inside looked bad from the outside but when I checked them, I realized they were working but the connections were not so good. We worked with my friend @byOldHand in this project, he helped me with wood. All the wood restoration was done in @byOldHand 's workshop. Thank you @byOldHand We worked hard to get this product to the final condition, consisting many metal and brass pieces. Every finishing plan I did, project got longer. And I wanna say that, the smaller the product is, bigger the project. So this looks like a small doorbell, but for me it was a huge project. Talking about this technically, all the metal and brass pieces had a silver look to them and I restored them keeping this in mind. The label on the product was something similar to silver, some people call it German silver, bafon metal. It was gold plated at some point but I decided otherwise and let it stay silver. And this was decided considering the integrity of the looks as a whole. A long and detailed video awaits you. Let’s see if you like it. I look forward to read your comments. Take care.

Initially, it didn't seem like there were that many parts, but when you watch each small part getting restored individually, it really shows just how much work is involved. The wood restoration alone could have been a whole segment by itself. Fantastic work and results from the two of you!

Очень хорошая реставрация! Гораздо лучше многих. Только куда конденсатор делся? Возможно, он был нужен для постоянного тока, и теперь необходимость в нём отпала, но хотелось бы, чтобы это было прокомментировано в видео.
It's gorgeous and has a great vintage sound. Your friend did a wonderful job restoring the wood. The doorbell probably looked like this the day it was made.

Oh this is lovely. We called them chime boxes. Also I have the one that came from me grandparents old house. Its actually sitting in my living room in a glass cabinet. The wood isn't as good as this one. I'm just thankful I thought about taking it while I could. That was 40 years ago.
I'd say the best doorbell is a dog 🐕. They love to let you know somebody is outside of your house wanting your attention.
Beautiful restoration

What is it that gives me such joy to watch? I'll tell you. The box is, in size and construction, similar to a pair of boxes that my dad made when he was a teen, aprox. 1940, in Geneseo, Kansas, USA (2020 census 236 people), which sat upon a Queen Anne style, solid walnut writing desk that was a part of our living room furniture for my entire life. My folks, both born in 1924, the greatest generation... Thank you for spurring memories. Yes, of course, there is some German in us. Ok, back to the digital recordment... (not video).

This is something that was used during the great depression America. It's what kind of material this antique doorbell was made out of. Including the way it was built. Some of the doorbells parts needed MC51 rust remover and nickel plating solution. That's what certain electronic games needed. ➕️🫥 🇺🇸 😢 😔 😞 💔 😪 🇺🇸

That's not a doorbell. It's a phone bell. The capaciator most likely 1uF is for deviding the AC Power for the bell from the DC Power of the speaking cirquit. In a lokal battery prupose it has an other function. Yours seems to be for CB ( Central Battery) use.
@meinemechaniker
Жыл бұрын
No it is door bell 👌
Leaving off the capacitor will ensure arcing and rapid burnout of the make/break contacts. It wont last long. It's easy to find the simple circuit which protects the unit.
