I am a revert born in hindu family in India. Though my parents and brother support me immensely through my islamic journey but due to the negativity being spread in India on hijab is worrying me to go out in Niqab. Alhamdulillah somehow I cover my head with a scarf whenever I go in public. It's my strong wish from the age of 15 yrs. to present myself in public in Niqab. In Sha Allah, one day I will. It's so insensible that society in many countries is allowing girls and women to expose themselves in public in several levels but in their view, covering properly becomes a negative thing. In all major religions covering the head and body properly has been a respectful practice till 2-3 decades ago. We see our grandmothers covering themselves from head to toe. Why then is it a negative practice if a muslimah practices this for her creator? I feel that it's never about just the hijab, it's one of the tools that they are using to mistreat and discriminate Islam and its followers. This is all bcz of lack of knowledge about Islam among non muslims. Non muslims learn from schooling that Allah is the name of muslim's God but they do not know Allah literally means 'The God'. Every major religion mentions one Supreme God, omnipresent, shapeless, genderless, no partner.. Islam is the only religion that strictly practices worshipping 'the creator only' with all the guidance provided by Allah SWT and Rasool alayhi wassaltu wassalam instead of mediators created by the human imagination, praying to prophets as they are Gods and as per their comfort. May Allah SWT guide them to learn the basics of Islam and leave the muslims alone to live peacefully.

Once one of my teachers shouted me because I was wearing hijab and he did not allow me to answer a question what he asked to the whole class. All of my friends were also in schoked. That's the problem with freedom, whether it's about speech or religion or choice, you do have the full right to wear whatever clothes you like, but everybody else, whether private people, shop owners, employers or whoever else, has the freedom of choice to not let you into their property and there's no need to name a reason for such choice. Personally I don't restrict my freedom of choice and my property rights to a Hijab or whatever other symbol of whichever religion, you cannot bring anything related to any religion into my house and even outside my house I won't talk to people displaying anything religious. In the end it comes down to whether or not you can afford living without and/or getting ignored by the people who aren't willing to deal with your choices, because just like these people cannot (or at least should not) force you to take off your Hijab, you cannot force these people to talk to you or let you into their property either.
