I didn’t watch the Arab video but I’m Mexican Muslim and live in an area where most Muslims I meet are of Arab dissent and heck yea I’ve experienced a lot of racism from them! Sorry I wish I was lying, super friendly and welcoming to your face but they don’t want you too close to them, alhamdulilah my faith is strong and I become Muslim strictly because I believe in the religion but if it wasn’t for that definitely I would have left islam because of those details, I’ve met many converts that have left Islam because of the racism and hate they face

"I have met many convert that have left islam because of the racism", are you serious?. I would not want to be the reason why someone stops worshiping Allah the way he wants to be worshipped. When people become reverts in islam, some of them lose their family, so you have become their family, and to also desert them really breaks them. I hope those converts and any converts return back to Islam. And I am sorry you went through that,

Some Arabs have this two-sided combination of superiority and inferiority complex which i have personally seen for myself on different occasions. There are times where some Arabs would feel good about themselves and superior when they are surrounded by south asains, africans etc. Some examples I saw were in Mosques, where I have seen Arabs yelling at Indians over taking chairs to sit on. On the other hand, unsurprisingly I have seen Arabs being very welcoming to white people, inviting them to Islamic sessions, hoping to change their so-called 'negative' opinions and media portrayals of them, being very patient while they are being degraded, and complaining about the racism, when they are doing the exact same thing. It's ironic really! Religion aside, there are also Arabs who try hard to portray themselves as 'normal', 'likeable', and display this sort of "Hey, I'm just like you" mentality to gain social acceptance from 'white' people. There were even lawsuits filed by lebanese/Syrian Arabs around 1952, where they literally fought to be racially classified as 'white' when they wanted to enter the United States and become citizens. Little do some of them know that if it wasn't for African-American Civil rights leaders fighting for all kinds of people to achieve equality in the past, they wouldn't have been able to immigrate to America!

Anti-blackness is huge issue with in our Muslim community. I remember I went to a friend of mine house and her nephew was there. He just came up to me and he brings his hand close to mine and pointed to my skin and he was like “you are black and I am white my skin is cleaner then yours” and at that time I was shocked to even hear 6 year old talking about skin tone. And that brings me to conclusion that is something that he hears from the family. We need to address anti-blackness within our community and embrace our difference.

Growing up, my parents had this strange attitude, without realising it: we had black friends from Portugal and Cape Verde who were respected by my parents, at the same time when they saw other black people they'd call them ' shiddi' in a bad tone and say bad things about them. They also favoured people with a lighter skin and didn't realize that many of these ideas came from colonialism in desi culture. Our family members and desi social circles in the UK and France had similar attitudes. At the same time, all of them were angry when white people were discriminating them. I see this hypocrisy everywhere in people from different backgrounds and ethnicities. It's an important conversation to have. It's a pity the Arab video is off line, because we have to discuss these topics if we want a change. We have to look at ourselves first and start there to make a change, and then also bring other people into this discussion. Otherwise, nothing will change. I think the Arab video was handled with care and was well explained. Oh well.

The most important lesson I have learned is to go where you are liked and treated well. I do not spend inordinate amounts of time with historically racist communities, nor attend their majority schools, no join their majority programs, except for a short time or a specific purpose, and then move on. The opinion of Arabs, Desis, matters little to me because I know mine own and those of my community matters little to them. Black people, in my opinion, need to stop wanting to be in those, spaces, life is too short to spend all that time trying to be accepted by people whose behaviors indicate they still need to work on. Go where you are celebrated and most importantly, protect children at all costs, do not throw them into racist schools and groups, even if these label themselves Muslim. My opinions. Allahu Alim.

Fitna is without and within us as well. Tasneem, I so appreciate you highlighting this issue. It’s exceptionally important and not discussed enough (if at all). As an Arab American, I try to bring attention to how my community benefits from Whiteness and white privilege, not recognizing the harm it does to the Black community. People will write all that off by talking about how Islam is for everyone without looking at how our behavior is discriminatory. Some things are so ingrained, we have to continue to bring it to our awareness and combat our own biases. It is our duty as Muslims.

On the other hand, unsurprisingly I have seen Arabs being very welcoming to white people, inviting them to Islamic sessions, hoping to change their so-called 'negative' opinions and media portrayals of them, being very patient when they are being degraded, complaining about the racism, when they are doing the same thing. It's ironic really! So I believe that work needs to be done on both sides, not just one. Instead of some Arabs only caring about their own groups being discriminated against, they should look at what they're doing as well. It also applies to different situations, not just religion wise.

In contrast to some Christian denominations which historically had racially segregated congregations, go into any mosque - whether in Saudi or America - and one will find congregants of all colors. There are Muslims who practice racial discrimination, but there are far more Christians who do.

As someone who grew up in Pakistan. The degradation of anyone who is black (Racially and subsequently, by comparison of local skin tone) is so deeply ingrained because of colonization. I moved to the U.S after marriage about 15 years ago and that prejudice I can still see in soo many desis. They have open suspicion against Non-Muslim Black people (buying into the media stereotypes of them being criminals) and will generally have an air of apathy towards Black Muslims. It's absolutely deplorable and I hate that we are this way! Thank you for highlighting this problem. And I wish I had not missed the Arab discussion because ... yeah, I've felt it first hand...

This is not just due to colonialism, white skin was preferred even before. Most of the predominantly higher castes are white and reverse true for vice versa. So even when people converted to muslim or christianity, that bias stayed. There was also a lot of intermixing of Arabic, Iranian, and Turkic genes into the Muslim genetic pool, which are all predominantly of white complexion. As they became rulers in the land, naturally people who looked like them where considered favorable. The idea that white skin is more beautiful precedes the era of colonialization, colonialization just reinforced it yet again.

Muslims are people too, people are flawed. Unfortunately people tend to act and think in the ways that they have been exposed to previously. People are flawed so they can strive to get better. Islam shows us the right way to think and behave. You would think we had enough time to get over these human tendencies as an ummah. But I guess the struggle is individual so we are still here. I love learning about cultures, but these parts just make me sad and angry.

Merhaba, living in Germany i have witnessed first hand anti blackness from Truks and its severely entrenched in the mentalities. so its now just "flawed" and lack of exposure since they tend to live in large multicultural cities like Koeln, Cologne, Hamburg, Muenchen , Stuttgart. its just there . Having partially grown up in 2 rough neighborhoods . Hasenbergl. The name alone makes people not want to talk to me . i promise you i have seen turkish sweep their doors after a black electrician or plumber has exited the space . those attitudes are just there and its no random flaw.

@@PHlophe unfortunately, I believe you. What an awful way to behave. Not random, huge flaw. Ignorance, arrogance etc. I meant people tend to emulate what they have witnessed from birth in their family homes or in the people they look up to. Living in a city does not make you exempt unless you do extra work and seek out better role models. Minorities in cities tend to stick together when they can to survive better.

While I agree that that racism is a huge problem in this ummah as a black person myself I can’t help but find myself thinking about this. One of the main reasons a lot of black people say Arabs/desis are racist is because they won’t marry them. I feel like any normal and self-respecting person wouldn’t cry and beg for a group of people outside their race to choose them as a partner and would just marry their own. However you tell a black person this and they’ll cry and say it’s their right to marry outside their race as well and bring up that ayat that Allah created us in different tribes. Why is it that this topic is never an issue amongst non black Muslims? They all prefer their own, want to be around their own, and would very much rather marry their own. It’s only black Muslims that feel everyone should marry them. Is it internalized racism amongst other black Muslims themselves and now they’re projecting or what? I don’t care to be accepted or even want to be in non-black spaces. I don’t care who likes me or who doesn’t. It’s not hard to stick with your own. It’s only hard if you’re suffering from self-hatred and want to mix your blood out of existence. The self-hatred and prejudice in terms of skin tone, facial features to hair texture is so prevalent in many black communities. I’ve seen so many black Muslim men fawn over Arab/White or least black looking African women and choose them over west African or darker skinned sisters. If we can’t even respect and love ourselves how can we expect for others to respect and love us?

@@ishxyzaak The Jewish books dont mention Muslims as the creation of the Muslim religion had not happend until many thousands of years after Judaism began. @@ishxyzaak No, the Bible does not say that they should be slaves, it tells of the times that the Jews were exiled not that they should be slaves. Apparently you've never read the Bible. You were talking about the way Jews think of, or speak of Muslims. And, the Qurans and hadiths say many negative things about Jews. Not to trust them. To kill them. To force them from the lands, that they dissobey God, smd other negatives.

In the UK, they're some Arabs who can be racist towards Pakistanis but generally there are way more Pakistanis and they're generally much bigger and masculine in size than Arabs. They also don't mind serving prison time. This is why Arabs are not direct racist with Pakistanis here but they do have subtle racism.
