Why was everyone pretending like the issue does not exist. I’m from a Pakistani background and can testify to the racism Pakistanis have towards Black Muslims and the same goes for Indian and Bengalis as well. And that desi woman, OMG!! Many Desis even have prejudice against darker skin Desi’s -- even harsher towards blacks 1000% it’s so horrible and I was so disappointed no one was listening to her in this video :( it’s an important discussion that can only be solved by having discussions, recognizing and acknowledging the problem, owning up to it and then becoming better from it. And to the person who commented earlier no, absolutely not, blacks should not leave the religion and if this kind of racism is leading ppl to believe that way - I hope it is a wake up call to all the prejudiced Muslims to change their point of view

This is the exact problem I'm talking about. She is literally saying what we've been experiencing and nobody is damn listening. Edit: I got a notification from this episode and decided to watch it again. Really just made me mad again. Seriously. The ways in which they invalidate the women in what she's saying. The Asian woman is on another level of disrespect. Having a preference is just another term for racism. Humans aren't skittles in a bag in which you can choose to discard the black ones, just because it's your "preference". 2024 edit: it's funny how life is and how life has changed for me since I wrote this comment. I'm exmuslim, racism exists with or without Islam, and even though im not Muslim, I respect the black Muslim women here putting themselves out there and trying to advocate for themselves even though it's a struggle. @@MsReader111 it for sure exists, but it's even deeper than that. a couple could be from the same country but a different region is frowned upon by the south asian and arab communities. maybe it's different in the US, but the "anything but black" thing is never something that's come up in the UK. I hear black women all the time talk about preferring black men - but that's never seen as anything bad. It's chalked up to compatibility, and that's fine. But full honesty, when i was a teenager i preferred girls lighter than me - which is also messed up by the way. why was that a thing? what conditioned me that way? Why did we all want "light skin" girls? At the end of the day, it's about Character and Compatibility and Deen and Love - so if the couple in question have all of that, and the only thing in the way is race, then Astagfirullah we are fools.

@@TheFurchow we all have our prejudices, no one is perfect including me. I think it's great you've recognised yours, this light skin thing is in many cultures. I think people think that if they acknowledge thier prejudice they have to somehow make up for it by being with the one they were prejudiced with. You don't. You just have to be aware that your view od someone is warped because of thier race which might influence your perception of them. It's a good thing to be aware of when you get to know someone. The issue is when we label those prejudices as something else i.e preference..yes the womens prejuidce is based on race OR don't acknowledge them because you haven't experienced them. Saying that anything but black dosnt happen in the UK just because you havent experienced it dosn't mean it dosn't exist. People also don't have to say it, it's implied by the way people talk about specific races or even within they're own race. Things like 'don't go out in the sun, you'll get too dark". Edit: also the black women prefering black men. Literally is prejudice which is based on race. The person has to be black before they even get to know them. Which means they see the person as their race before anything else. Not because they know them. It's becayse they assume they already know the person based on the race. Again. It's just prejudice/racism labelled as something else.

Sister no need to argue with this lady, racism is prevalent in Asia and Arab culture even though they practice Islam.

The sister in the red hijab was being SO problematic. Her responses to the sister voicing her frustrations in dealing with racism in the Muslim community were insensitive and ignorant. She had the nerve to respond with "well maybe you're just being sensitive" to the sister saying why Muslims have preferences for every race EXCEPT someone Black. This video is disappointing. Also, the other POC on the panel, including Ammar, had little or nothing to say in response to the sister in the red hijab's inappropriate responses.

Sudanese also suffer really bad racism in the Middle East by Middle Eastern Arabs. And in America, Sudanese suffer racism from the Middle Eastern Arab American community. So, Sudanese are self-hating black people who wish they were Arab. Sudanese also look like Black Africans even the ones who are mixed look like Black Africans.

Here is my dilemma with this discussion. What the black sister was saying was valid, and there was a lot of invalidation going on. Having a personal preference for yourself is okay however to say to your children and community members to not marry and to stay away from POC or any other Muslim countries is indeed racist sentiments and jahiliyah that Allah condemned. Marry who you want however do not prohibit others from this as it is against the guidelines and lifestyle of practising Muslim. This is what the sister was saying and I was pretty frustrated with the gaslighting and invalidation .

I knew she would say a black person being the culprit and because of this white neighbours would be scared. The sister has some real bad personality traits.

Too busy playing nice. Disappointing because they really silenced the sister and by extension those who truly feel ostracized from the worldwide Muslim community .

She had valid points but she sounded entitled tbh. No one owes her marriage. I was picked last at a soccer pick-up game because I wasn't good at soccer, it had nothing to do with my race or religion. Black Americans need to stop playing the victimhood mentality card honestly. How does one rule out everything else and blame everything on racism? Is it because she had racism in her mind?

I live in Jersey City New Jersey and I went to a gathering for Muslim marriage. There were over 100 women round 30 men. I filled out the application. The one Arab woman interviewed me and told me no one fit my application profile. I told her I don’t care about race and your telling me there’s no one for me. She grinned and said she will keep me in mind, can’t tell me she was judging me based on me being a so-called African American straight Racist.

Having a personal preference isn't an issue, the issue is forcing one's preference on their children and loved ones. The sister in the red khimar had the nerve to tell the African-American sister to have an open mind when she needs to have an open mind.

I am a black African Muslim, for me, I can say there's extensive racism among Muslims, especially white Arab Muslims. I am saying this because I experienced it when I wanted to marry a white arab Muslim girl, this thing is really and they don't care that I am Muslim, they refuse to marry that girl because I am black. I will never forget this in my life. I have seen this in my fellow black Muslims when they wanted to marry an arab Muslim girl. I understand the problems the sister is pointing out. I am from Bosnia, hence I'm white. My family knows I'm actively looking for a African Muslim woman and they're only response was, marry whoever you'd like as long as they are Muslim. I understand that's not everyone in the Muslim community. I once asked a Somali friend, although jokingly (approach asking a friend for his sister hand with caution 😄), if I could marry his sister, he replied "you're white, my father wouldn't allow it". Which leads me to believe a lot of it is simply cultural.

Im not a Muslim but it's bad enough that outside of religion black women are chosen last if at all for marriage. To be in a religion that forbids racism and teaches all races are the same to still be last on the totem poll is truly sad. Just appreciate all your sisters equally Also Islam places alot of importance on marriage and raising a family. In Islam we know. Everyone is equal. However we have have a mentally that just because one gets rejected we straight jump to pull a card. Anyone else yes but as Muslims we should be more clever. It's preference. It can be based on anything. It's that simple. I can get rejected based on it but I won't call it racism. It's their right. We should have have a weak mentality. Assalaamu alaykum. This was genuinely hard to watch for a lot of reasons. Allah knows best. This is an important discussion and I hope it’s revisited in a more productive way inshaaAllah.

Very interesting subject..... Also can we stop using the word "preference" in the wrong context. A "Preference" is were you like something more than something else however you're still OPEN to try things other than what you like. Being open to every ethnic group and race but Black, is in its mild form discriminatory or at its worst racist. In Allah's words we are all equal, its actions and deeds that define the best of us.

can you mentioned exactly where it was made fun of bilal in the Quran? Quran teaches us that we all came from one parent ( Adam and Eve) and we are all related. And the prophet had to preach again and again to his people that no one is superior over anyone. I think you are confusing the backward culture of racism the existed not only in Arabian but all over the world in old times with the teaching of the Quran. Yes in many cultures anti-blackness predated the arrival of european colonisers and their pseudo-science/eugenics. For example, the caste system in the subcontinent, in Arabia they had their own slave trade which extended into Africa- creating tribalism/racism and colorism; as well as in the Far east where dark skin was associated with slave labour and inferiority.

I'm appalled. The problem is the so-called shayke leading this community and his lack of understanding social issues in the Ummah. Not everyone who can repeat arabic like a tape recorder is fit to lead a community. Maybe lead the theologically based discussions but not discussions like this. Because the Prophet said two things will never leave, does not mean we should give up. In fact, we should work even harder to stay away from those evil characteristics.

The Desi sister and the Black sister are both completely right. Unfortunately the point went over her (Desi lady) head completely. The Black muslimah was saying people who try to justify openness to EVERY race BUT black people are racist and its wrong. Then the Desi sister continues to justify logical preference for wanting something similar. Its not the same. Someone, for example, who is Desi and is opened to marry a white revert from Greenland or a Latino from Peru but wouldn't marry a black person is simply racist and their preference is just that. Racist. However, for someone to want to keep it within themselves and marry someone from their country or neighboring countries with similar politics and culture is highly justifiable.

I am so glad that my parents raised me to understand different faiths and nationalities. It is good to know Muslms are no different but just as racist as everyone else.

I think battling racial/cultural/tribal preferences is definitely a conversation to be had. However, I don't think anyone would want to be with someone that had to be challenged intellectually to see me (for example) as their equal. One conversation that I think SHOULD be had is one concerning parents/grandparents not allowing their progeny to marry someone of different racial/cultural/tribal background. The effects of this is specifically and tangibly felt within the community. Also, the girl with red hijab is lost.

Yes the Desi sister on the end in the red hijab is really invalidating. Seeking common ground is fine but that’s not what the Black sister in the white hijab was saying. When you are weeding out potential partners you haven’t even met yet based on race (and not even culture) that’s not seeking a someone who gets your jokes or enjoys your food. How do you know I don’t like Indian cuisine? I do.

This discussion was very disheartening how they downplayed everything the sister said. Very articulate and well spoken, your faith should never supersede your race. The brother in the black outfit with the white kufi is very condescending and rude.

I am black and Muslim and male. I believe if the family is basically okay with interracial than it's should be okay. I remember a few blacks wanted me to marry a black woman who was so unattractive to me, I absolutely refused . There was a white woman that was interested in me and I was attracted to this white woman. It was our decision and I never felt racism amongst Muslims. I have seen where all women no matter what color seem to like me, even women who were white that would not date your average black but they liked me, even women from the south where they would lynch black men seem to like me whether society was against me or family, I guess I could breakdown the norms. I think because I was good looking in my younger days but now I am fat . I knew lots of white and Mexican women and white Muslim women who called me Samson. I passed up many black women, because I thought the white women were prettier, but I also new very pretty black women. I also knew many Mexican women of whom I have children from 3 different Mexican girls.

I totally agree that racism is a deep rooted problem we have as an ummah. All muslims shall be viewed as equal regardless of their race, social class, etc. Only taqwa that matters in the sight of Allah. Individual preference is also influenced by cultural/social values that can be racist and therefore, these types of preferences should be called out. It's not okay and should not be normalised. We also need to be reflective as to why we view people based on specific criteria, other than taqwa. Cause honestly, shouldn't we try to align our perspectives to Allah's way to value His slaves? Yea, surely, ppl are entitled to their choices & preferences. But we, ourselves, need to be concerned and shall be self-reflective for our own sake.

The sister doesn’t know it but she’s ready to leave Islam. She brought forward very interesting and relevant discussion points and everyone evaded them like a sly fox. Young lady opened Pandora’s box and the panel was not ready

Interracial marriages are able to happen, and I have seen more of BM&WM(of any variation) together than I have BW&WM(of any variation) and I personally would like black sisters to do their best and achieve whatever they want, be it interracial marriage, or anything else good. Just try, you could be surprised how loving other races' families are to you! It is so interesting, a lot of black men (Muslims) possibly don't get a lot of sets back as the black Muslimah does. And is it wrong to think that at this point in time, if BW would be scrutinized/judged to even get their race of men to marry, then, BM should understand this and extend a kind courtesy to their BW and marry them instead, since the other race (desirable) women regardless, would always get someone to marry them? Wasn't this done during the Prophet's time, when the Sahaba would marry widows, and slaves, and protect them? And like the girl in the black Hijab said, now, black people (sisters, brothers) want to stay together because of so much hurt they have felt from other Muslims. I do hope that we always stay together when we meet one another, not after 5-10 years, and we look back to wonder, "oh I should have stayed closer to my sisters or brothers!" It is ridiculous, why not then? Preference can be questioned sometimes, and I have experienced the subtle nuances of racism from many.

What did Allah and His messenger say? That's how we ahoild approach any issue in my view. We are called Muslims by Allah and His messenger and told to put above everything in our affairs. Everything else is us giving our opinions.

The African American sisters are right. Marry your own kind you weirdo. It will be hard for you to integrate into an African household. We have different customs, language, values and cultural upbringing. Most Arab brothers that approach African sisters for marriage only do it for sex. Islam doesnt even encourage interracial marriage. I would never give my daughter to an Arab guy. Allah has made us into different tribes and ethnicities that we may get to know one another. Not to mix you weirdos😂😂😂😂😂. By mixing we destroy our unique ethnic backgrounds Allah had blessed us with.

What's wrong is having that attraction in your heart and marrying someone of the same race that your not attracted to.

@@beautifulscenery8770 Asalamu aleykum. Islam doesnt encourage nor discourage interracial marriages. Our religion has a neutral stance on this topic. I was addressing the Islamic scholars who like to twist certain verses of the quran to their liking and decieve people into believing our religion encourages interracial marriages. They use the verse of the Quran about Allah making us into different tribes and ethnicities to push interracial marriages on us. Firstly that verse doesnt encourage interracial marriages. The main message of that verse was for us to acknowledge the unique ethnic identities Allah has blessed us with. I believe interracial marriages will not work out. People should just marry a person of the same culture as them to ensure stability and a smooth transition into marriage. In these interracial marriages you will have to deal with culture clash, unsupportive family members, language barriers, racism and many more which is hard to cope with for the most part. Omar suleiman is comfortably married to a women from the same culture as him but expects us to give our daughters and sons to people who we are not fimilar with their upbringing and culture. In order to ensure stability and a smooth transition to marriage than I would recommend to marry a person that has the same culture as you. Some sheikhs on KZread are fake and would not give an honest reality on interracial marriages. We need to look at reality rather than this happy-clapped we are all one belted in islamic unity that frankly doesnt exist. Jazakallahu khair

The reason black and white muslims are treated differently is because of the British society you are living in has taught them that way and they do this even in the colonies they are occupying these days through a concept called 'nation states'. Thats the root cause of the racism that exists between muslims. Islam is the only religion that had successfully eliminated racism from its adherents but Anglo-British pagans were not going to tolerate that. Hence the directionless discussion you are having.

Most Middle Eastern Arabs do NOT want to marry Black men or Black women. 99% of Middle Eastern Arabs are only attracted to Middle Eastern Arabs and other kinds of Middle Eastern people (Iranians, Turks, Armenians). So what is the disgust and hatred toward a muslim (and their partner in life) who marries an atheist or christian/other religion called? Like, we cant call it racism but I think the treatment of us is HORRIBLE and many times not even lawful, but what is that kind of bigotry called? It's not disgust or hatred. It's simply legislation that's divinely-guided. A Muslim can marry whomever they want. However, that marriage isn't recognized as valid within the scope of Islam and the Islamic worldview. It's the same as the prohibition toward alcohol. Specifically prohibited. However, can a Muslim consume alcohol? Sure. In the instance that they do, they are transgressing against themselves and Divine guidance. The key objective here is to preserve the sanctity of the family structure that is geared towards the worship of God. Marrying an atheist goes against that objective in principle. I'm brown but refuse to stoop to other races when there are women of my own race available. When you go on dating sites select your own race NOT race doesn't matter and then come crying on YT.

Let's not pretend that Africa hasnt been divided by "color" because Arabs that moved to the continent 700 years ago DO NOT want to be identified as African. Hence, "north Africa" and "Sub-Saharan". The lines have been drawn. Sisters and brothers needs to do the work and appreciate how colorism and racism is woven into the culture. It is only through sincere work that healing is achieved. Pretending that food and "cultural traditions" are insurmountable obstacles in dating is absolutely absurd. I was born in the U.S. and LOVE Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food, food from all over Africa. Food from all over Latin America. I love Indian food. When i meet people that i think are interesting that live differently than i do, im curious about their customs and music and traditions. All that being said, someone seeking a mate for life will share in your culture/traditions, as you should in theirs.

It would be racism if there are NO black women left in the world. But there are millionsssss. Just like if there's no halal meat in the country then supermarket chicken is allowed.

First of all, we need to reject being called black. Race is a social construct. They are not calling the other ethnicities by a color. Most AA are brown skinned so the title black does not fit.

Speaking on the interracial marriage aspect, to be honest I don't know why some black muslims make it a life mission to marry outside their race; particularly an Arab. We all know most people prefer to marry within their culture and there's nothing wrong with that. However to go as far as to say that it's "hard for black muslims to find a spouse" after you denied so many Africans or black American muslims because you're in pursuit of an Arab is crazy. Then you go ahead and label all Arabs as racist because they don't want their daughter to marry you. Insane. West Africa alone has more muslims in sub-Africa than any other outside it. Philadelphia, Minnesota, Washington, and New Jersey has so many black American and African muslims. Please let's stop the cap.

But still... you can't refuse a couple from getting married if they want to because they are of different races, even if you are their family. That is just racism. Most people don't want to marry outside their races because of such judgment they get from fellow family and fellow race and thats overrules preference and cycle repeats with the next generation...
