Thank you for helping me out as well. I’m about 5 miles north of Lon as the crow flies. My almost identical setup has been rock solid for over a year. If it weren’t for ATSC 3.0 I wouldn’t have a chance of getting WTNH.

As an ex-TV repair man (person) from the 60's, tube type TV's, my most frequent outside job was replacing roof antennas. Main issue was that after a few years the 3 bolts holding them into the roof would cause leaks, even with the blob of roofing tar/cement on them. The best option was what I used on my previous homes. Steel conduit (thick 2.5") special order 20' and a 5 gallon bucket (sunk into the ground) with hole in it for the conduit to go through. Pounded the conduit into the ground a few feet, slid the bucket down the conduit into the hole, filled the bucket with cement, covered it with dirt to hide it, mounted the conduit to roof fascia (into a rafter) and pounded in a 10' ground rod which I connected to it. It withstood 65+ mph wind during many storms. So, what to do now here in Florida, with all the lightning that happens? I had a highly rated smaller antenna with a rotator on it which was a dud. After researching antennas, I found one and the Antenna Guy has high ratings on it, the ATSC 3 transmitting antenna is about 35 miles away, but before I buy it I need to research some information that I saw regarding the OTA TV companies eventually stopping their "FREE" ATSC-3 transmission to all but one channel each and going to a subscription base service. I guess the government in one of their rulings allowed for this. Need to look deeper into this, before purchasing an expensive antenna. Currently using KZread TV as our choice and they just raised their rates. Uhhhh soon they will be charging as much as the cable companies do

This is fantastic timing! Just tonight I talked my stepfather into getting the HD Homerun Flex 4k, after two of his subscription services bumped up their monthly prices on him. I'm recommending he get the exact same Televes Dat Boss antenna in time, but for now we're going to start with a small indoor antenna that we've tested and found to be adequate for the moment. Tyler The Antenna Man really knows his stuff, and I'm so glad I found him, and you, to get advice from.

Nice. I grabbed the Silicondust 4k ATSC 3.0 tuner ~18 months ago. Boston area channels, which I am in range of in NH, didn't have ATSC 3.0 feeds until very recently but they are live now. I've really enjoyed the OTA TV and not paying Comcast exorbitant fees for TV I rarely watch.

Back in the early ATSC 1.0 days I placed a serious winegard antenna on my chimney. What they don't tell you is that the antenna may loosen some of the motar over time. I decided to move my antenna into my attic. I lost a dew decibels of signal but since I've never been that far from the TV antennas serving Boston (im by Worcester), it still worked out very well. I did however need to add an amplifier.

Watching this helps me realize: I'm so lucky where I'm at in Portland that I have a super cheap antenna that I _could_ just lay it on the floor and _still_ have really high quality signal. I've also got fiber and have been using YTTV for a while but, considering recent price hikes, has me *strongly* considering alternatives considering how little I even use YTTV these days! (and I don't watch sports on TV)

In line with the "put the tuner near the coax entry, since it's networkable", the HDHomeRun ATSC3 power inlet is a 12V 3.5x1.35 DC barrel. I got a PoE splitter from PoE Texas (which has a 5.5x2.1 DC barrel output) and a cheap barrel adapter from Amazon and now Ethernet and power for my FLEX ATSC3 unit is provided from my switch. Which is handy, since there is no AC outlet near where the antenna lead is...

I have a 100 mile outside antenna that I put up at 25ft. It works pretty good and I have guy wires of 18 gauge steel that are designed for high winds since here in Florida we get Hurricanes! I would like to add an ATSC 3.0 tuner to my TV since it doesn't have the newer tuner. I have been waiting for someone to come out with a lower priced tuner since I don't want to pay $200 for one. I was hoping this spring they would be on the market so I'm keeping my eyes open for one. I get good signals now but I have a little trouble sometimes with my 2 VHF channels which are CBS and NBC. Otherwise it works pretty good. I also have a preamp on my antenna and I have it set on the lower setting and I could put it on the higher setting but I don't want to have too strong of signals for the strong channels that I receive. I see that the newer standard works much better than the older one so that is why I want it!

I'm lucky I'm in a major market. Most of my transmitters are on a mountain about 6 miles LOS west of me. Unfortunately there are a few transmitters in almost the opposite direction and about 25 miles away. I just use a smaller roof(2 story) mast mounted antenna pointed to the distant transmitters to better able to pull them in. I've also connected the antenna feed to the coax(RG6) that used to carry my Xfinity video signal so all the bedrooms have access to the antenna signals. Bedroom TVs can view either OTA channels or using ROKUs view my Tablo Quad. I haven't branched out to ATSC 3.0 yet however all the majors have NextGen TV.

That antenna almost looks like something used at a CATV head-end. I have an amplified leaf type antenna in my north-northwest 2nd floor window that I picked up years ago from Costco (I don't think they haven them anymore). This is the only one I've found of this type that really does anything. It was a total shock when I first put it up. I'm in northern Middlesex county in CT and I get 68 channels on my ATSC 1.0 set. My channel list is similar to yours, although I'm surprised to not see WHCT-LD 35 in your list as it's on the "fox 61" tower over on Rattlesnake mountain or WRNT-LD 32, which is on Deercliff road in Avon. I'll post my list with each station (by PSIP) and the number of sub-channels in the least obtrusive way (I hope): 03 WFSB (4), 08 WTNH (2), 19 WRDM (2), 20 WCCT (4), 22 WWLP (4), 24 WEDH (3), 26 WHPX (8), 27 WWAX (5), 30 WVIT (4), 32 WRNT (7), 35 WHCT (8), 40 WGGB (3), 57 WGBY (4), 59 WCTX (2), 61 WTIC (5), 65 WEDY (3). Of course some of these are guest stations on other hosts (which would make for a whole new post due to the way they put all the main stations on the WCCT ATSC 3.0 transmitter and took WCCT's ATSC 1.0 programming and spread it out on the sub channels of other transmitters. This list remains pretty consistent with a few exceptions: WGGB & WGBY tend to have summertime issues with WGGB being the worst since they moved to OTA 26, they used to be perfect years ago on the temporary OTA 55 & later OTA 40. WTNH also was spotty at times, but I think the transmitter was also moved to Rattlesnake now as well, and I rarely have problems with them now. With that change, most of these stations are in the right direction for my northern-ish window. I may attempt this with an outdoor antenna one day, but if I do, I want directional as I miss the number of channels I used to be able to get in the analog days (basically, all of CT, RI, Most of MA, southern parts of VT, NH, ME, Most of NYC, Albany, part of Philly, and many in between). I also miss the analog DX. On a good day, I used to be able to get stations in the mid-west. I have yet to do any since digital, I know it can be done, it just doesn't seem to work for my current setup.

I hope you have that coax from the antenna going thru a ground block so it's grounded to earth. Being that high up can be attracted to lighting. @@kensmith5694 Maybe.... Not always the case. Raising my antenna gets it smack in the thick part of the pine trees for my local stations. Capturing the signal at a lower level, in my case works much better. I also get a perfectly reliable signal from a station 70mi away with a 8 bay antenna at a 10ft ground elevation. (16 ft above sea level) Same logic. Won't work at higher elevations I've gone up 30ft) I enjoy an FM station from that same distant location. Almost impossible on a car radio. After trying a big FM antenna at 20 ft with nothing but a weak signal, I found a nice strong signal using an S shaped FM antenna mounted vertically 3 ft from the ground in a bush! Always a great signal right there, but no where else. FM uses both vertical and horizontal transmissions. I may be getting a bounced vertical signal from a distant object. All I know is that it works. If you have trees, I say forget all the old rules of "height is better" because it doesn't work in my area. Unless you want to go above the trees. Question for you: A few brief clips in the video show the TV screen with menus (in addition to the program your watching): are those menus generated by the HD Home Run box, the ATSC 3 broadcast, a ATSC 3 specific television, or ??? I've got a basic SMART TV that's 8 years old (?) but am not able to bring up any menus or programming guides like I see you have. I can walk through the apps (like pluto TV or Tubi TV) with the up/down/left/right arrows on the basic TV remote, but that's it. Maybe a secondary remote control is needed to access and manipulate those menu selections> Antenna location. You could also try putting the antenna in your attic. I did that and it worked great. Just make sure there's no metal in the way; no metal-foil roof insulation, no metal HVAC ductwork in the way, and my home's wood roof with asphalt shingles doesn't seem to degrade performance even when its raining. I'm in the Los Angeles area, all the stations broadcast from the same area (Mt. Wilson above Pasadena) and I've got a straight & clear 40-mile sight line to those antennas. 60+ channels.

I’ve had good luck switching to Amazon fire sticks. The transcoding is done over the internet. The only Roku device we have is our TCL roku TV which has hardware transcoding. Yet for some reason the SAP audio plays at times and there’s no way to change it. IOS devices also seem to use some sort of web based transcoding. If you are asking if it can be hooked up to your former cable wiring in your home, it can be, and you own it. But if you are still using Cable internet, you'll have to run a separate line to your cable modem FIRST! Once you do that, then you can connect the antenna output to your existing cable wiring in your home. One other caution, some cable companies used to run 90v on their cable to power the old telephone modems. BUT, they sometimes forgot to turn off that 90V at the pole. Some people have found (as I did) 90V on the cable wiring coming into their home. Be careful when working with the cable coming into your home. If you're not sure about what you are doing, get a professional to help you.

The cable TV companies and other forces of evil convinced most of the population that over the air was dead. There are many things that people here believe that simply are not true. That there is no over the air TV is just one drop in a vast ocean of such things.

Millions of Americans live in apartments. So your set up is impossible. Do you have any suggestions for those of us that are interested in ATSC 3.0 that live in apartments. I live in an apartment and my solution for over the air is. Subscribing to Paramount plus, Peacock, and Hulu. You get all the prime time programming on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox the next day. And then have Sling for other channels. And I get it all for less than $50 a month. And I don’t have to worry about weather problems.

Look up the fcc rules on outdoor Antennas. Renters are allowed to install a tv atenna in areas they have control such as a balcony. Hopefully the area of control has good tv reception.

If they are in a more densely populated area there's a good chance that an indoor antenna will work. Every situation is different which is why I suggest people go to Antennaweb to see what their particular environment looks like.

@@LonSeidman you are correct about that. I do have an eight dollar rabbit ear antenna I bought at Best Buy. It works great. The only reason why I have it is to pick up non-big network channels like decades, Laff TV, Cozi. Channels like that. It does pick up all the big-name networks except for CBS.

I’d like to cut the cord on KZread TV due to their price hike, but can’t get Foxnews & CNN over the air.

I also have KZread TV and I'm going to cancel before the hike. Sling is looking attractive to me, although their local channel availability is lacking. Unfortunately, OTA channels aren't readily available where I live. You could get Sling Blue at $40 and get CNN and Fox News. Or the Orange and Blue packages at $55 which still undercuts KZread TV. I'm looking at Blue for myself.

We have YTTV but I rarely watch it outside of football season. I catch Tucker, The Five and Gutfeld clips on YT. There are several free news and weather channels on the free streaming services and quite a few substitutes for HGTV. If I lived alone, I'd probably dump YTTV. Tho we do use it at two houses so the price is still pretty cheap per house. And they haven't started charging tax here yet We could get all the networks with an attic antenna and tuner box.
