It’s already been eight years since Paul Rudd joined the MCU as Ant-Man, and this third movie in the series sees him kicking off Phase 5. So with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Marvel really had to start this new phase off with a bang. While some may argue that they didn’t succeed in that, one thing is for sure: they kicked it off with some naked MODOK butt.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania definitely raises some questions. Like why did Janet keep such a big secret from everyone for SO LONG into the movie? What’s going on with MODOK’s face? If Kang is the big bad of the next two phases, why did we just watch him get beat up by some bugs? Did anything really change after this movie?
To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The Antman movies are the stupidest movies in the MCU. Shrunken items retain their mass (meaning they weigh the same) except when they don't, toy trains are treated like they have the same propotional mass as real trains (any hobbiest can tell you they don't, except in Super 8, where the real train has the same proportional mass as a model train), time dilation exists except when it doesn't, a microscopic world exists when it didn't before. There's the rule of cool, and then there's dropping an open switchblade on your foot because you're wearing sunglasses at night. That said, the first Antman is still pretty fun, especially those scenes where his sidekick narrates how he got the info for the heist and such.

When the portal opens back up and they just go home, that was honestly so weird. All the emotion of Scott staying behind to make sure Kang can't escape, and then Hope going in after him, just feels suddenly silly. And Cassie had no way of knowing that they beat Kang, so I guess she just decided saving her dad was worth risking Quantum Hitler. Not that that's out of character for her, but you could just write it so that they're stuck down there and it fixes all of it.

Remember that time when all Kang wanted to do was fix his quantum drive and leave the quantum realm… and then the whole crew left the quantum realm through a portal with Kang’s ship intact and the quantum drive fully operational (powering the portal)… and then for some reason instead of just letting Antman leave through the portal, taking his ship and getting out of the quantum realm, Kang stopped Antman from leaving through the portal and fought him instead? @@Saif_-_-_Ali they thought Kang was dead until he stopped them from leaving. If Kang just let them walk through the portal, he would have had the quantum drive active and powered up sitting about 20 feet from his ship and he could have gone wherever he wanted. It actually didn’t serve him in any way to stop them from leaving! They had just whooped his ass and they were leaving the quantum realm with the drive fully operational sitting on the other side of the portal unguarded. Even if what I think you are saying was true… that Janet said it only had 1 more cycle… Kang wouldn’t have known that. he was still fighting giant ants when she said that. He would have just seen his drive operational and the enemies leaving through the portal. So why would he stop them from leaving? Even if he somehow knew that the drive only had 1 final operation left… He could have followed them straight through the portal and come out of the quantum realm to earth right? @@ARottenMuffin Did you miss the part where she beat a bunch of guards on her own to free the rebel leader, how she beat Modok in her giant form or how she helped incite the rebellion? She is not experienced, but she is not useless. Just because she doesn't stand a chance on her own also doesn't mean she can't still try. A hero is someone who fights the bad guy even if they don't have much of a chance. Also "gets conveniently help this time"? This is the point of a team fight. The team works together and has each other's backs. You probably didn't complain when Hawkeye or Black Widow fought far superior alien armies. I repeat: it was an all or nothing fight. If Scott and Hope had fought Kang and lost then Cassie would have been slaughtered like the rest of the rebels. Fighting is better than running. Also it is pathetic to appeal to some kind of majority here. People come here to see Ryan riff on movies. They are already predisposed to shitting on it. That doesn't make the objectively right. If you see how many people in these comments didn't even get basic plot points that were explicitely explained you understand that most of them didn't pay attention and just want to have fun making fun off a movie. You don't have to like it. You have to actually have a point when you criticize it though.

I realized this on my second watch, I was like wait why couldn't Kang just let them leave then he still has this orb and he could rebuild his civilization and ascend again very easily. My GF said that it's bcuz Kang's ego was hurt that he was being defeated so he tried to kill Scott, which is literally the ONLY explanation that could possibly make sense since it is very stupid that Kang fought Scott one last time for no reason. It was already very stupid that Kang was even still alive after being absolutely mauled by the ants that were hyper advanced, like did they just let him go off screen wtf?

But we're good now, you know?" It would have also made his line "I don't have to win, we both just have to lose" so much cooler. I mean, imagine if it cut to Cassie and she finally opened a portal and it was a fully built empire again, except people had been listening to her parents for the past 10 years or something. The quantum realm has different "layers" is as big as a universe, so them going down for a bit at a time in a far off area was deemed safe. Then out of nowhere Marvel decided to making the trend, "your child/female younger ver will inherit your heroic title" start with shuri, hawkeye daughter, iron heart, and hulk son You could see in her hairstyle the actress didnt care a damn about this movie. Its really messy. Starts from weirdass bobcut in antman 1 then heroine pony and then this

Actually, they determined Scott and Cassie weren't spies because the glowing forehead guy read their minds. Also, while I kinda wish that Scott and Hope would've been stuck in the Quantum Realm for a while as a sacrifice, they DID establish the device that was able to locate people in the Quantum Realm. In fact, Cassie built it specifically because of what happened to Scott previously. Speaking of which, having Scott stuck in the Quantum Realm again only to potentially return later for important plot reasons has already been done, so I'm also kinda glad they DIDN'T go that route.

I'm glad that you at least touched on the whole: "Wait, why are we rooting for the rebels? We don't actually know them at all!" aspect of the film. That stood out to me almost immediately as I was watching it, thinking that for all we know the rebels are "rebelling" against clean drinking water and the banning of slavery. And that's not even touching on the monty-python esque idea of what Kang might have been improving within their actual society ("What have the Romans ever done for us?" "You mean aside from the roads, sanitation, etc"). I mean, for one thing, the rebels are living in some desert huts and Kang built this whole, vast, futuristic cityscape that probably has schools and fire departments and hospitals... Like, I'm not trying to defend despotism here or anything, but would it have hurt to at least found out what the two sides actually stood for? For all we know, Kang had a democratically elected parliament that did all the real governing and he was just in charge of expanding the empire or whatever... which, you know, not ideal but also might be better than just burning everything down and living in the desert... Sorry for the rant, but that aspect of the film really bugged me!

Thank you for pointing how annoying Cassie was to Scott. It's good she wants to help people but she's been breaking the law and this is a high-stakes situation where you don't know this place who these people are. Scott just wants to find their family first and she makes him out to be selfish because he won't save random people. Heroes don't just act, they use good reasoning. Otherwise, it's just reckless. If Cassie had more layers to her character, I would find like her motives would feel more genuine, but as is, she just sounds kind of snotty and entitled. Even the thing with Cassie resenting Scott for disappearing for 5 years and judging him for not doing hero stuff as much even to the point of wanting to break the law to do it. In case she forgot, he couldn't see her during part of her childhood because he *went to jail* for criminal stuff and it's noble if he doesn't want to do that anymore and responsibile to not want her repeating the same mistakes. Also, doing scientific hero stuff *is the reason* he disappeared for five years. He couldn't help the circumstances that Thanos brought up on them. Did she ever consider that maybe him trying to slow down and taking less risks is just his way of saying I want enjoy a simple family life to make up for lost time? They seriously could have written her as less bratty.
