I just had to go back and listen to this theme song and give "Answers" the attention it truly deserves. It is so fitting for a realm being reborn! What an experience this was to just sit and take in every note of this song!

This! There's remnants of this song everywhere through the game, and the theme for Endwalker can be interpreted as a response to Answers. Answers is Hydelyn's "I'm sorry" to the people of Eorzea, and...I'll leave it at that since Solitary Saturn is working through the story. 😄

@@sopranophantomista I actually don't think it's Hydaelyn telling us she is sorry. She has nothing to apologize for, but I'll go no further in the discussion because, as you said, it's way too much possiblity of getting into spoilers.

"In the same fleeting moment, thou must live, die, and know" is such an amazingly poetic and powerful line to leave the song on to me. Whether or not you understand the full story context of these lyrics, they speak to something deeply profound within the human spirit. That line can be interpreted in so many different ways, it means something different to everyone you ask, but it will be provocative to them regardless. The way the song leaves you with just that one line to ponder before it cuts to silence, it's as if it's just made a deeply important point about life, and it's inviting you to think about it for yourself. And the reality is, that's why the song is called Answers; it doesn't give you any answers, but it wants you to chew on the question it gives you and come up with your own answers. FFXIV is one of the deepest and most poetic pieces of storytelling I've ever seen. I truly hope you enjoy your time with this story; and cherish it. Take your time. At journey's end, you'll look back with fondness on everything that's come before - all of it. The good and the bad. It'll bring a tear to your eye and make you wish you could go back and experience it all for the first time again. The themes this thing tackles may even change you and your outlook on life for the better, and you'll find yourself turning into a walking advertisement for it just like everyone who came before.

If you really pay attention to the song structure in the middle and end, things get interesting. The choir goes first, as if asking a question. Susan *ANSWERS*. (To some, Susan really 'became' the voice for hydaelyn. especially 2.0, into 3.0.) But, getting back on track, in the second, more hopeless engagement between the two, It's Susan asking the questions, and the choir answering her. I absolutely adore this piece.

It's a song that really ages well. There's countless arrangements that play in various parts of the game, and in Endwalker, nearly 10 years after the song released you finally discover the true meaning of the song. Granted it's a retcon since they definitely didn't plan that far ahead (they've said as much) but honestly if they told us with a straight face that it was planned from the start I would 100% believe them, that's how well it fits.

This song holds a special place for many ... and in many ways it is a musical mirror and companion for the game itself. Created for the failed version known as 1.0 it bits of it were utilized from the begining but it never was utilized fully now was it able to shine. Then when the game came under the direction of Yoshi-P it would become the herald of the death of the old world and its rebirth into the new ... first echoing faintly and with each patch louder and clearer until it is played in full in the cinematic that played right after the servers shut down on the first version of the game. To many a conversation between the pleading people to their god for salvation in that dark hour it would be utilized in this new world in multiplemtimes. And as with many aspects of the game that carried over would be woven into the changing and growing story acquiring new meanings and wiegth

This is one of the best written Songs of all time - the lyrics touch you in strange ways - even more, when the story onfolds 10! years later in full. And all this thanks to .. very generic themes of life and the reason why we live .. they hadn't a clue what to make with the story at this point, and managed to fabricate one of the best stories ever told in a medium. I've seen you start playing - first: welcome to Eorza :) Second: Prepare for Emotional Damage :D Thrid: have fun! :)

I'm so glad you reacted to this song apart from the trailer. It plays in many places throughout the story so I knew the tune very well, but it wasn't until recently that I paused and really listened to the lyrics and it just blew me away. I hadn't realized the nature of the song being a discussion between like what I assume is the people and their god, or their greater purpose, or that it tackled such crazy deep questions like "what is the point of life? why do we suffer?" And the response of "Answer together" and "life is a riddle to bear rapture and sorrow, to listen, to suffer, to entrust unto tomorrow" ... it still gets me, those lyrics stay with me now. Wildly good song, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

This song has a huge amount of foreshadowing in it . But you’re also correct that the line about “those who walk after” is directly referring to the people teaching you the game, it’s a double meaning. Notice how the word “teach” was also very prominent in the big climax of the song.

It won't come up in your journey through FF14, but Susan Calloway also does the vocals for the Distant Worlds concert series version of a song from Final Fantasy 11 which is just as relevant to 14, in my opinion. The song is "Memoro de la Stono - Distant Worlds", the "opening" and "ending" for the plotline from the start of FF11 through Chains of Promathia, and the namesake of the concert series itself.

This song... it is already great when you hear it at the beginning, but several dozens or hundreds of hours later, depending on how you play, Endwalker will recontextualize it, making it even more impactful. It really makes me wonder, just how much of the entire story was already mapped out, at least in loose details, back in 1.0, when the song was made... or if it was just a happy coincidence that the original lyrics fit in so well with THAT cutscene from 5.0.

The music is some of the best music I've heard in a game. I come from single player games like Dragon Age & Mass Effect, which isn't my favorite since I don't like creepy things and that's up there with creepy. I have played Star Wars the Old Republic, which is a great story based RPG/MMO, but I don't remember the music...well, I just don't remember the music to be honest and music is something I focus on heavily, which is why I turn the background music off when I'm going through something for the first time. I die way too much if the music is playing because I start focusing on that and forget to move.

This song will mess you up just hearing it and thinking on it. I feel like it's getting at something with sober earnestness that, say, "Dark Side of the Moon" (particularly "Eclipse") was getting at with wry humor about the wholeness of existence. I don't know how far you are into the game yet, but just know, as I'm sure you've heard countless times: the beginning is a little bit of a "generic MMO" slog, but once you start getting into the post 1.0 content(you'll know it by the big long cutscene with a warning that it's long!) the game really starts to pick up steam with the storytelling. It has its high points, and its slower dragging points, but I think this is probably the best RPG storyline I've ever played. And I've been playing games since the NES was a current console!
