Something about Louisoix's facial expressions just gets to me. Hits me to my core. At first he smiles, as if accepting the end. Then the serene moment where he processes everything, calms himself and concentrates, preparing for what he yet has to do, because it's too early to give. He has a duty he must fulfil, so he can't afford to just accept the end. And then he goes all out to make his ultimate sacrifice. It's so cool.

Wasn't sure if you knew the full context of this cinematic since the first half is basically just the intro cinematic for anyone starting the game nowadays. But the epic, world altering events on show here represented a huge investment and risk at the time, and something that no MMO since has really dared repeat. You see, the initial release of FF14 was pretty universally panned by critics and gamers as slow, clunky, and dated. As a result, the position of producer and director were given to Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) who, after taking stock of the situation, realized the game in it's current form was critically flawed and would never be more than mediocre. He convinced management of this and asked for 2.5 years to make a completely new version of the game while using a portion of the team to maintain and update the existing game. As the release day for FF14: A Realm Reborn approached, an event started in the original game where a red moon grew larger and larger in the sky. Those logged in when the original servers went down were the first to watch the original version of this cinematic which follows the Warrior of Light's recollection of events (kzread.info/dash/bejne/mmlolLubitjdm7Q.html). The land of Eorzea literally ended that day with a new, very different version taking its place after.

The in-game location is called "The Fields of Carteneau". After the devastation caused by Bahamut, it was revealed to house several Allegan ruins and the super weapon Omega. There was a conflict between the City-states of Eorzea but the Grand Companies decided a civilized conflict among those fields would be the deciding factor on who gets what without fracturing the Alliance between them. Essentially for players it's a PvP Battleground, and is the only way to access the zone to this day. Though if you wanted a map location it is between Thanalan and Mor Dhana.

The "wonder" in your eyes as you watch this. LOVE IT! Such a genuine reaction.

Their story telling is always top notch.... even when there isn't anything being said

the games gotten really popular over the last year due to a major wow exoduse. its a good time to play it.

I was a dragoon main too!!!! Our armors go FUCKING HARD BABY!! I was an end game raider primarily for ARR but I always loved a bit of “fashion fantasy” lol. Haven’t played the game in years but I’m coming back for the Xbox beta and release in 2024 . I have so much to catch up on!!!

If you're going to come back to the game, I suggest not going past this cinematic and the ARR cinematic (since it includes a lot of this cinematic in it). That is if you don't want to be spoiled as to what happens in the game. All of what you just watched was what happened in 1.0 to remake the game into what we have now. I suggest watching the FFXIV no clip documentary on the game, because to see what they went through to remake the game is incredible.
