    This event was called "The Calamity" for good reason. It's actually called "The 7th Umbral Calamity" there were six similarly destructive or world changing events prior to this one. This event in the game terms was in-effect the transition from the original game to the new version going forward, out with the old world, in with the new, including a new lead developer and director. That ball was one of the planets moons, they didn't know there was a dragon inside it. Mr. Darth Vader on his airship there was part of a plan to drop the moon onto this continent and kill/subjugate everyone here. Didn't go as planned, as you can see.

    And it really was a calamity, the summoning, attack of and defeat of Bahamut was so great that it permanently effected the land, or at least long term (it's only been 5 years so whose to say), farmland went baren, hell on region got permalocked to winter. They've been trapped in an endless blizzard since the battle ended and a lot of their people froze to death in the country side before anything could be done for them.

    I'm not huge into MMOs but I played through every expansion and even did some of the mid to high tier content for each expansion after seeing the endwalker trailer JUST so I could experience the story... It was.... a lot of content and a LONG. Long. Long.Long. Long.Long. Long.Long. Long story and road to even get to endwalker but it was worth it. I laughed, and cried. Felt anger and fear. And had a fun time playing. I can say without a doubt that FFXIV is my favorite Final Fantasy game. I can't really stick around in MMO games since I'm just not that devoted to them but the story was brilliant. And them dispersing extra story into the optional content was fantastic and a great driving force to actually have played that content. Endwalker does win best expansion for me but before I got there, Heavensward held that title for me firmly. That expansion hit so many emotional strings man...

    Oh this was the first cinematic after they remade the game, it was depicting the end of the old game world. The sequence with the grandpa after it cuts off is a hidden cutscene you get in the game to show the full story of what happened between him and the Dragon (named Bahamut). In case nobody has told you, this game is free to play to a certain point 😉(up to the end of the first expansion). Really cool you reacted to this because I've been playing this game since before it was remade in 2013 (specifically since 1.0 alpha in 2011).

    Ok, so I'm gonna Lore dump as someone who's been playing for nearing 2 years now Spoilers: You have been warned. So the army with all the armor and machines are from a nation called Garlemald, And Garleans have no ability to use magic, at all. But thanks to a brilliant engineer by the name of Midas nan Garlond, they are able to use Ceruleum as a fuel to power a number of technologies, allowing them to go toe to toe with magic weilding foes. Midas however was working on another project called Meteor. Using a transmitter they were able to make contact with the lesser moon Dalamud, (the red spikey thing you saw in the beginning) however the transmitter also worked two ways and the elder primal Bahamut (the dragon you saw) tempered (entrhralled) Midas. Shortly after this happened Midas attempted to get a better signal and channeled too much power and completely obliterated not only the transmitter, but the region known as Bozja (which this later became known as the Bozja Incident). 10 years later after the Meteor Project was scrapped, the Garleans stilled wanted to conquer Eorzea, but didnt really have the might to fight the Eorzean Alliance, which was an alliance of the city states within, Namely Gridania, Ul'Dah, Limsa Lominsa and Ishgard. Enter Nael Van Darnus, he persuaded the current Emperor Solus zos Galvus to restart the Meteor Project and aim Dalamud right at Eorzea and invade after the destruction. What the Garlean Empire however was unaware of is that Dalamud was actually a several thousand year old power core for the ancient Allagan Empire. Trapped inside was the elder Primal Bahamut. This where the old dude comes into play, Archon Louisoix Leveilleur. Him along with a number of members known as the Circle of Knowing attempted to prevent the coming calamity. A number of sites were marked for people to pray at and try and summon the Twelve (deities but we're still not sure exactly what their role is) to reseal Bahamut should he escape, or destroy him. This is where a lesson of summoning primals comes in. While under duress and with enough aether/crystals, one can summon a minor god if you will, in the case of say the Kobolds, that god is Titan. Summoned primals are usually not a good thing. For one they have a nasty habbit of brainwashing people into following them, and continuing to suck the world dry of Aether (AKA Life force). In this case however Louisoix was using the ability to summon the 12's powers. Back to the matters at hand, after 1.0's first patch, players began noticing a red dot, and with every passing patch, that dot was getting closer and closer. It quickly became a race of Louisoix, the Circle and the Warriors of Light to stop the Garleans. This ultimately culminated with the Battle of Carteneau Flats. In a desperate last ditch effort the Eorzean Alliance met the Garleans on the battlefield overseen by Kan-E-Senna (Gridania), Admiral Merlwyb (Limsa Lominsa) and General Raubahn (Ul'Dah) of the Eorzean Alliance, vs Gaius van Baelsar for the Garlean Empire (big serious helmeted guy). During the battle Louisoix, using the prayers of the people attempted to reseal Bahamut, however Bahamuts rage could not be contained and he wanted to completely level the land for his imprisonment. After breaking free he used his ultimate ability Tera Flare. With nothing else left to fight with, Louisoix, using one of the Twelve's power, sent the Warriors of Light 5 years into the future so they at least would live on. Shortly after doing this he's giving a vision by the twelve, and also thanks to the copious amounts of aether in the area, along with the peoples prayers for deliverance (presumably by Louisoix), he was given the power of a primal, the ability to go toe to toe with Bahamut. After slaying Bahamut he let himself go because he knew the dangers of what a primal could do to a land. This is why the city states of Eorzea dont try to summon the Twelve like the various beast tribes surrounding them tend to do with their gods. However, Bahamut wasnt as dead as we might have hoped. Shortly after defeating Gaius again in ARR, a dreadful roar is heard during festivities. Bahamut was being regenerated. Not only do the Warriors of Light have to battle the still working Allagan defenses to get at Bahamut's core, but Louisoix as well since he was tempered by bahamut after letting go. Thanks to him, and Nael's sister posing as him, Bahamut is being regenerated. Ultimately you defeat Nael, undo Louisoix's tempering, and finally fight a minature version of Bahamut in his core. These are a series of raids known as The Binding Coils of Bahamut.

  • @sitnspin1819
    @sitnspin1819 Жыл бұрын

    Okay, so the dragon is a primal version of Bahamut and the ball was his prison. Garlemald basically broke Bahamut out of his prison, called Dalamud. The grandpa is Louisoix. He channelled the power of all twelve gods in order to imprison Bahamut, only Bahamut broke out of that one, too. Louisoix specifically made the spell to kill himself after its completion. If he didn't die? The power would have ended up manifesting as a primal of all Twelve gods. A primal of that power would have made Bahamut look like a cake walk in comparison. Bahamut broke the prison in seconds. Smashed through all of that aether and all of those prayers. So, Louisoix channelled the original aether, used to summon the Twelve, into himself and used his self-contained weapon to destroy Bahamut's body. He was stopped halfway through when Bahamut enthralled Louisoix. All of that power then manifested into the primal known as the Phoenix.

    I wish this cinematic showed the lyrics, they perfectly match what's going on but mostly the voices are drowned out by the battle noise and explosions. Just the first verse: "I close my eyes, tell us why must we suffer Release your hands, for your will drags us under My legs grow tired, tell us where must we wander How can we carry on if redemption's beyond us?" "Your will drags us under" refers to the Garleans' will to conquer, unintentionally bringing about the destruction of both sides. "Redemption's beyond us" says it plain; we're *all* doomed. And the final one: "Thy Life is a riddle, to bear rapture and sorrow To listen, to suffer, to entrust unto tomorrow In one fleeting moment, from the Land doth life flow Yet in one fleeting moment, for anew it doth grow In the same fleeting moment Thou must live Die And know" This is talking to the characters and by extension the players behind them, "entrusted unto tomorrow" by Louisoix (and by the developers) who sent them into the future (closed the servers for a full game reboot) where they'd have a chance of helping the world to recover (playing a game that isn't terrible and failing.) Rapture and sorrow is exactly what the players at the time would have felt, and the whole cinematic really nails the feeling of just absolute sadness that the Garleans' greed for power ended up destroying the world, where normally you might expect things to focus on the world-ending dragon-god being stood up to by the protagonists in a big, showy battle. All but the power of all the gods combined never stood a chance.

They just stood there, because even if you're a hero, what can you even do? Everyone just stood there helplessly. It was going to go only one of two ways. Either total annihilation, or they would get lucky and there would be someone like Louisoix that can sacrifice himself to stop it. FFXIV is such a masterpiece of storytelling, both in-game and in the cinematics. Seen a lot of people giving the real life story of how that's how they killed 1.0, but here's the in-universe context without spoilers: The war was between three allied nations of the land of Eorzea and the invading Garlean Empire. While Garleans don't have magic, they have some pretty high tech. When the fighting got to a heavy stalemate, the Empire's commanding officer decided that the best course of action to ensure their victory... Was to drop one of the planet's two moons on Eorzea and take over whatever's left afterwards. Bit of nationally sanctioned genocide and war crimes for dinner, as a treat! Anyways, as the moon entered its final descent, people realized it wasn't a moon at all. It was a prison. A prison for one very, very, VERY pissed off Bahamut, the Dreadwyrm. One of the most powerful dragons of all time, now released into the world. In one final ditch effort, Louisoix, the old pointy eared man, and his allies summoned forth the power of the Twelve Gods of Eorzea, pouring the continent's faith into them to try and seal him away, only for it to fail against the unfathomable power of Bahamut. Louisoix's last act was to use his power to send the heroes, the Warriors of Light, into the future, that they may be able to save whatever's left. What happened then, how did he destroy the monster, how did anyone get out of that alive? Well... The game's free up to level 60, and that includes the raid that answers those questions.

They shut down the servers, but before that, they had that red moon (Dalamund) descending in the background, super strong monsters spawning in towns, forcing players to stand in this one spot, watching as Dalamund slowly descended. Haunting music in the background. Then the servers went down, and this played. And they revealed A Realm Reborn with this. I wasn't there, but my god I bet it was hype.

In order, Chronologically, Next would be Heavensward (1st expansion), Stormblood (2nd Expansion), Shadowbringers (3rd expansion), then Endwalker (current expansion). Yeah 1.0 was a super terrible fiasco for se so they brought in the new head of the game yoshi-p. He determined the best way to fix the game was basically to destroy 1.0. up to where it fades out looking at louisoix's face (when it fades to white), that was the last thing everyone saw if they were logged in when the 1.0 servers were shut down. A realm reborn (2.0) was where the current game picks up, 5 years after this battle. There's actually a documentary by noclip about how xiv went from one of Square Enix's worst disasters to it's most successful game.
