I know the Hobbit is considered a “children’s book” but it has never read like a children’s book to me personally.

Hi John. I listen to a lot of youtube as i have a driving job. You are honestly one of the best content creators on the platform. It baffles me that you dont have a larger subscription base. I will tell me friends about you. Keep up the great work!

i hope u don’t find this an insult, though, i’d totally understand if u do lol but i have real trouble sleeping and i find your videos perfect to have on in the background. i have already worked my way through your videos while trying to sleeping despite finding you probably just a fortnight ago 😭 your voice is calm, and steady so it’s very nice to listen to, and legendarium content helps shut up obsessive thoughts that keep me up at night. you’re one of the most knowledgeable tolkien tube youtubers, and helped explain/answer so many questions i never even thought to ask. so thank you

100% not insulted - you are not the first person to tell me this, and it's never said in a bad way.

Hi, John! Thank you for posting. Your videos are such a blessing for me. I've been listening to them in the background at work ever since I discovered your channel and it's been truly educational, but also therapeutic! Thank you for making my days brighter!

It is suggested in the lord of the rings that Boromirs fall was in part a result of him meeting Galadriel. She seems to have this effect on people, that whatever lurks in their subconscience, good or evil, is brought to the surface. By the way - Boromir also handled the ring briefly, when he handed it back to Frodo after he lost it. The barrow-wight probably did too, when he cla Frodo in white linen and put him on a flat stone.

I feel it was leaving Lothlórien that made him act strange, he was no longer around either Nenya nor Narya.

Did Tolien finish any of his languages to the point that they could actually be used, as in becoming a living language used to speak or write intelligibly?

  • @John-Sierra

Unfortunately not - the closest is Quenya. Some have tried to finish the language which has led to a "neo-Quenya" but it is not a complete language. You can communicate most ideas in it, but it isn't a living language. Writing is interesting as his written modes can apply to multiple languages, such as runes or Tengwar. The inscirption on The One Ring was written in Tengwar but the language was Black Speech. You can even write English or Klingon or Esperanto in Tengwar.

@@John-Sierra Thanks. I didn't know all that. Though it doesn't suprise me that he didn't finish his languages. He was busy refining his lengendarium.

You keep calling Frodo and Bilbo cousins. Am I misremembering due to the movies or is this a slip?

  • @John-Sierra

They are cousins, but Frodo calls him Uncle Bilbo, fairly common in large families when there's a generation gap between cousins. Bilbo was an only child, so he has no nieces or nephews.
