The zumo XT checks all the boxes for me. My bike already has TPMS so I appreciate the cost saving. I commented under your review XT video that I’ll see how the rumored ‘massive’ GPS update for the Goldwing factory unit turns out, and, if it disappoints, Then it’ll be the XT for me.

I’m enjoying my XT so far. It’s replacing my 10 year old 660. The sharp image alone was worth the upgrade. I got it for $399 during the Garmin sale.

I installed the Garmin XT yesterday and went for a 200 mile drive today. the screen brightness is fantastic, the touch screen is very sensitive and works with gloves. the phone and text use on the XT works great, I intentionally left the phone in the trunk (I prefer to only hear the incoming text not reply, if that important I'll return with a phone call) - I want to ride the bike not spend the day texting. the XT was worth the wait and watching your XT videos was helpful. Is it feasible to run the Zumo XT on it's internal battery or an external battery source? I do that with other Garmin auto GPS units.

I watched your review and some others reviews as well and decided to purchase the XT yesterday. I had been interested in it since it came out but Garmin put them on sale at $100 off for a price of $399.(03/15/20) I need the larger brighter screen, my iphone just doesn't do it for me. In this video you mentioned something I was unaware of and that is "current location" You did not say it but the "nearest address" was one of the things listed which is great info to give to emergency services. Since I do ride alone this could be very important for me. With the gps in my 2009 goldwing I a able to see the cross streets/roads as they come up in my travels. For my riding this is huge as I like to just wonder through country roads and enjoy the sights and sometimes the smells. I hope this is included in the Xt. 73, thanks for the videos, Mike

Funny you mention the 50S now that we have the Zumo XT as well since I just ordered it. Hope you can share a 'how-to' on pairing, using it, etc. Having some new toys helps to overcome this quarantine fatigue and getting excited to get out riding soon!

I broke out and went for a ride yesterday. Beautiful day in Missouri. I’ve noticed that after changing over to the Cardo from the SENA, my Apple CarPlay starts up every time. With my SENA it was quite a chore; I’d even have to re-start my bike. For some reason the SENA wasn’t being recognized. If others are having the same issue I recommend trying the Cardo.

Great review and thank you. Ordered an XT yesterday and it should arrive tomorrow. I'm starting to have second thoughts about it as I now realize Spotify is not supported. If you use Spotify, can you comment and confirm that you have to control it via the smartphone app?

You can do that on a 590LM and 595LM. Press the context menu on the map screen (bottom right) while navigating a route and it's right there. If I remember correctly the function was also available on the Zumo 660 so it has been there for over 10 years.

Well done. On the upcoming topic- the Sena 50- I originally had Cardi Q3; Everyone seemed to have Sena 20S and satisfied so I got one and have been happy. Saw. a comparison of Sena 50 and Cardo’s mesh intercom- the Cardo blew the Sena away on noise cancelling and waterproofness. Interested in your thoughts- if I were buying now, based in that, I would buy Cardo

I purchased the Honda GL1800/F6B Maintenance Videos and saved a lot of money doing my own maintenance on my 2012 Honda Goldwing. If you ever add a 2020 Can-Am Spyder RT Limited to your garage I hope you create maintenance videos series for it. I will be one of the first to purchase it. Regarding skipping Waypoints @ 07:40 - great information, many thanks! I have found nobody else has reviewed the unit in depth enough to mention this and it is a deal breaker for me the way the 396/500/595LM generation didn't do this intuitively (which is why I am still on my old faithful Zumo 660 (I am seriously considering the XT as it seems like it's time to upgrade, finally)). One related question, does this Waypoint skipping feature work the same for Shaping Points, i.e. does it semi-auto skip Shaping Points (the "Blue dot" instead of "Orange flag" I think they are), in the same way? (most of my routes are long, and only have Waypoints for start, end and perhaps lunch stop - all other route design/prescription is done with many/multiple shaping points in MapSource/Basecamp. Many Thanks in advance! :)

I would like to get some info about the speed cam feature. It says it has the cam map installed, but I am not able to see them on the map. Does the warning work anyhow, and how?

Just purchased the Zumo and used it recently. My question is can you have your phone plugged into the bike in the cubby and use XM radio app? I tried doing it but I only get the info from Garmin no music. If it’s not plugged in it works fine but then the phone is not charging. Any advice? Can this be done or does the Goldwing always override this function?

Hi Cruiseman - did you happen to talk abut the "live Track" or if it is doable on this unit? Thank for all you do for the motorcycling community.

I can't help but notice how close together the yes and no buttons are when the XT asks if you want to skip a waypoint, I know full well that when you are on a bit of a bumpy road wearing thick winter gloves that you're going to hit the no button when you try to hit the yes button or visa versa; so if you do accidently hit the wrong button does the XT give you another chance to cancel after another 2 warnings or is that it; the XT is going to take you back to the waypoint like it or not?

Another well thought out and produced video. Good you pointed out everyone is invited to subscribe & enjoy regardless of GW rider or any brand. I mostly ride my 09 HD Ultra Classic or my 04 Yamaha FJR, but also own a very nice 97 GL1500 that hasn't seen much use these past 7 or 8 years, but find your content very interesting and certainly a cut above many others. Someday I may upgrade to GL1800 current style, but kind of holding out for Honda to add Android auto in addition to Apple car play, as don't anticipate ever switching over. My Chevy Malibu offers both, so sure Honda could step up. Thank you for all your education content, I watch everyone.

No loss at all on Garmin TPMS I had it on the 595LM ended up switching to FOBO because Garmin always lost contact with the head unit. I contacted Garmin several times re: TPMS, in the end "its a knowen Problem" .... My question is if you connect the XT to a hot spot will it work for all the online stuff via (WIFI)? In the past, I could hear feedback on my motovlogs if the 595LM and phone were paired over my Sena SRL, so my thinking is if I connect my dedicated Hot Spot that should eliminate the feedback noise..

I noticed your bike makes the loud knock when cranked over and starts for the first time of the day. Mine does that as well, it is very discerning on what is causing it. It doesn't do this when warm. Anyways, thanks for all your videos, good job!

I recently purchased a Zumo XT. I really like the XT. I wish there was a comprehensive users manual available. As a senior, the learning curve a kind of steep. I like to listen to music while I ride and I have a very large music library. I would like to know how to play mp3 files on a 32 gig sd card rather than loading the files into the internal memory. Hello Cruiseman Very informative Video on the Zumo XT , Is the Model Free Lifetime updates ? I have a 660 Zumo to Replace a 590 that Just would not work Despite being Replaced .Anyway Can you tell me if the Splash Screen Can Still be used to Put Contact Details on the Splash Screen in the Event of the Zumo being found removed from the Bike Cradle , Also has the Media Player been Fixed So that the Music Plays from the Memory Card at the Correct Speed ? Both of my 660,s will Play around 5 Songs at the Correct Speed and then All the Following Songs Play Slightly Slower , My Zumo 400 and 550 Played All day Long at the Correct Speed But Not the 660,s .Both 660,s are Fully updated .Any Info would be Great Cheers Francis

If that's what you want, and you want maximum ear protection& the best sound - buy the inexpensive cardo freecom 1+ ($99), bose quietcomfort20s noise cancelling wired buds, and plug those into the cardo instead of the supplied speakers. It all works great w xt. You can download the "discord" app and talk w folks who also use it via cell coverage (not bluetooth). that cardo has a small lenghth of wire for the 3.5mm female port, that lets the bose controller block be underneath your suit

How is the voice on the XT? The 595 sounds computer generated.

I don't undertsand why they buried the display page vs possibly moving it to the top of the settings page. I don't need to access updates & a few other settings as I'm driving. If I recall, the 660 was a one touch quick adjust from the power button. A few other issues I'm not thrilled with but overall, the improvements are nothing short of spectacular!

I've got an 12 year old Nuvi 760, a Nav IV, and a couple other Garmins and they all have the capability of showing your location and nearest police / gas / hospital when you touch the icon that represents you on the main screen. That's not new maybe you just never used it before ? I sure like the looks / features of this new XT, thanks for the update.

I was aware of the feature, but a lot of my subscribers ride a Goldwing with the built-in GPS, and it has no such feature.

Hey C man...thanks for all the education....question i have is the 2020 AFRICA TWIN DCT has a 12 v socket right up front...so instead of wiring the zumo to under the seat connectors i was just going to plug it in the socket...any problems with that?...thankyou

Should work with a USB connection, but might compromise waterproof.

You could also use the included wire harness and rig up a connector to the power leads.

You mentioned that you've managed to skip waypoints on the Honda GPS. I'd love to know how you've managed that? Thanks.

If I remember correctly (and it has probably been a year since I did it), I had to pull over, edit the route and delete the waypoint from the route. A real pain.

Do you have a installation video , did you install yours or did you go to a shop

Hello. I just got my 2018 Golding and paired my Sena with the bike BT. I assumed I should hear radio and Nav from bike in my headset, but they are still coming from speakers. What do I do wrong? Thanks.

Make sure to press the AUDIO button on the center console to switch from Speaker Mode to Headset Mode.

Hi. I am a Zumo 396 owner. I usually create a route in the Basecamp with waypoints that interest me. Once en route, I would like to see the list of waypoints and the distance / time left to each of them. In the Zumo 396 I can see it, but with the turn indications. Is there a way to see only waypoints? Do you recommend update from 396 to xt?. Thanks.

Not sure if you can see the waypoints without the turn indications, I will have to try that. 396 is a good box. Biggest advantage will be the bigger/brighter screen.

Can you have more than 29 waypoints on a route with this GPS. Also I try to use tacks instead of routes. Tracks are alway accurate

Now that you have used it can you answer the following question that I posted on one of your other videos. Thanks, here you go---- Are you going to test it on the road? What I'm curious about is if you put a custom route that you built on Basecamp and were navigating on that route and took a wrong turn will it recalculate and get you back on your route or will it recalculate and take you the shortest way? That is a common problem with the Honda GPS when you upload a custom route if you make a wrong turn it will recalculate and take the shortest route and blow your whole route out. At least on my 2013. I use my phone now.

Cruiseman, Any chance of answering the above question i posted? Im really interested in purchasing this gps but if it behaves like the Honda gps, and blows out my route if you miss a corner, i don't want it. I hate when the gps says recalculating and then creates a new route for you taking you the shortest way. Usually meaning the interstate.

I still have issues with way points. You say skip and go forward and stops. I've done 2 trial runs and the skip never appeared in one run, I tried the skip button in another and it never confirmed and appeared extremely lost. So I'm having confidence issues. I have a 24 day trip planed with many way points but we likely might skip a few. So not confident in how it works. I created in google map and exported and then to basecamp and got the way points and made the day by day trips. One friend also has same xt (can am spyder) combination. She only uses the destinations. I can do that. I see if I title my waypoints d1a, d1b...etc they would be easy to look up but rather just go. Really miss my Indian and it's GPS now (knees made me give up 2 wheels) So could you show a trip with way points and actually what happens when you hit the little skip button.
