    I have the 590lm and I really like it .. the wiring harness wasn't an issue for me, as I'm a tech, and put it all in place while outside the place of purchase .. one thing I wish is that when you make a long road trip plan with many pts in the route to keep the Garmin inline with the trip is that when you go off the route and want to continue the next morning it wants to send you back where you started .. I have a 16Gb SD card in there, I have an external mic connected to it for Bluetooth phone connection.. all in all a good device ..

    When wearing polarized sunglasses can you still see the screen? I hate my Garmin because the screen disappears when my prescription sunglasses are being used.

    I'll keep my 595. Got it when they first came out. Does the XT have LM free updates? I l9ve my Garmin GPSs. The on board GPS is built by Garmin. Honda takes away some functions do to liability I'm sure. Garmin just gives you the legal warning. I use and program the on board and my 595 for long trips. I don't always use the same route. I think the screen will be better in the sunlight. Let us know. Thanks

    I don't have yet a goldwin. As a new driver i plan to buy a honda nc750x and this garmin. Can we plan our trip as well as with the tomtom rider 550? About the goldwin, i see it as the gold apple as it supports carplay only, will they support android auto one day?

    Please take it outside in the sun and show us the screen with and without backlight and compare to the 595. My very old GPSMAP 276C is readable in direct sunlight even without backlight and the newer Zumo 660 is fuzzy and dim with full backlight. So how far has Garmin come with the XT?

    I'd be curious to know about the battery - that alone would be reason enough to go with the 595. Also, what apps are included with the XT. The new glass screen is a capacitive screen like a cell phone, and the older 595 screen is resistive (screen layers physically compress when touched). The resistive is not as delicate as the glass and is a little more water resistant but the glass screen is brighter and more clear. When you type in a street name you don't need the street type (St, Dr etc) - if you select the closest name in the suggestion bar (eg Young), it will give you a list of all possibilities. Look forward to the in depth review - Garmin makes great stuff.

    I have had a 590 since 2015. Has remained waterproof and just this year had to replace the battery. I don't see any huge advantage to changing to this model in fact you lose some things like TPMS (Tire Pressure) which I really liked. Garmin is still updating the maps for free on my 590LM.

    590 is a great machine. I agree, I have not seen a compelling reason to upgrade, other than the bigger/brighter screen. But, as you say, you do lose some features.

    I bought one of these for my bike some time ag and I just have to wonder how I’m going to mount this thing. They almost require you wire it in. There is no usb cable long enough to use the Honda 12v socket in the GW left pocket. And the depth of the device keeps it from fitting into a RAM cradle.

    Do you have a CB radio? If not, you could install on the left side, like mine. Or, you could get a dual RAM ball setup for the right handlebar.

    I bought an XT to replace my 590. Besides the much better screen, the XT is far better when you activate a route when you are physically not yet on the route. This is problematic with a 590/595, where you need to know the procedure to get it right. But it is absolutely no problem with an XT. So this is a very strong reason to update.

  • @MotoRideswJohn

    @MotoRideswJohn

    4 жыл бұрын

    It's very easy. Your phone and your BT headset are both paired to the Zumo XT. The "Music" app on the XT controls Spotify on your phone, and when the GPS needs to give spoken directions, it will actually PAUSE the music playing on Spotify to speak the directions, and then resume the music.

    Are you going to test it on the road? What I'm curious about is if you put a custom route that you built on Basecamp and were navigating on that route and took a wrong turn will it recalculate and get you back on your route or will it recalculate and take you the shortest way? That is a common problem with the Honda GPS when you upload a custom route if you make a wrong turn it will recalculate and take the shortest route and blow your whole route out. At least on my 2013. I use my phone now.

    I think the main benefit with going with a GPS over the phone is being able to put in custom route right now I just use my phone but that is because when I would upload my routes to my Goldwing it would blow them out as soon as I would make a wrong turn. If this will maintain a custom route it's real tempting to get one

    Another benefit with a Gps over a phone is the Gps can almost alway find a satellite where cell phones sometime can’t reach a tower. I ride in North Carolina a lot and there are many places where there is no cell service.

    I cant speak to THIS model but I bought a new glass front garmin gps and it does not update using the old reliable app I had on kmy pc. Mione tries to update using my cell phones data afteer I link it to the Garmin app on my cell phone. So my new garmin uses cell phone data to get traffic updates where the old model did this on its own with no cell phone. In some regards these new GPS are much nicer with a clearer screen and graphics. On the downside you must have a cell phone connected to get live updates. I still have not tried updating the garmin while parked in my driveway toi use the house wifi to update the maps. I have a pay as you go for phone data so I dont want large updates going through the phone. Its a mixed bag. THey could have kept the old system with an antennae to pick up live traffic updates but they chose not to. Garmin likes to nickel and dime you to death if given the chance. Look at how they charge subscription rates for live traffic on some models.

    A stand alone GPS offers MUCH more capabilities than Waze, Google Maps or others. If you are just trying to locate a restaurant or movie theater, or take a straight line trip on the Interstate, those are fine, but if you want to create a detailed route on specific roads, a Garmin is the way to go.
