Ok full disclosure... I'm an American and my new favorite band group is AnnenMayKantereit... a German boy band... I've just discovered. Like you I'm blown away by Henning May's soulful, powerful, soul shaking voice...so much that i'm pretty sure I've listened to every YT reaction I can find on this song "Tom's Diner" and I can say with confidence you two have created the "BEST" reaction ever to this song on any part of YT.... Taylor your completely "gobsmacked" stunned expressions had me laughing and crying real time with you two every second of your video....damn well done folks!!

don't ever again say that AMK is a "boy" band...🤣 it's a Pop-Rockband. Boybands usally don't have any instruments they just sing and dance around.

Frederik Rabe (Giant Rooks), the first singer in this video was 23 years old, when they recorded this. Henning May (AnnenMayKantereit), the second singer with the raspy voice, was 27 when they recorded this in 2019. And they are allowed to drink beer since they were 16 years old because they live in Germany.

Exactly the contrast is so big but the combination is so perfect it is almost seen ying and yang perfectly matching each other.

Frederik and Henning are such a great combination, but don’t forget about the instruments. They are well known here in Germany, but I am glad foreigners recognize them as well 👍

Frederik Rabe deserves a better appreciation. The song is so balanced precisely because they are and I find that we should not compare them together but rather as a perfect mix.

AMK is notorious for shooting these style video’s in one take with instrumentation and vocals live, just like you see it. Your reactions are refreshing. So many reactors try to get overly technical, and at times that is fine. However, this song is so much fun it deserves the truthful praise and shocking responses you both give. AnnenMayKantereit is an awesome German band who does some great songs in English and German. I love listening to them in German because I can translate some of it as I listen. Really cool!

In the first room is the band AnnenMayKantereit, the singer is Henning May. He is the second singer with the amazing voice that is so scratchy and full of power! In the second room is the band Giant Rooks. Their singer is Frederik, who is the first singer, with the soft melodic voice. (At the end both Bands are in the same room 😅) Both bands are very popular in Germany.

I’ve listened to this cover way too many times in the last couple of days and need to get on with real world stuff but scrolling past your reaction clip gave me another excuse to listen to it again, didn’t expect to enjoy your reaction enough to subscribe .

But Giant Rooks writes his songs in English, while AnnenMayKantereit writes in German. Btw AnnenMayKantereit's new album released only 3 days ago. ;)

The song is a cover of Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner (1987). This is a collaboration of two German bands: In the first room AnnenMayKantereit are playing and Henning May (deep raspy voice) is their singer. And in the second room Giant Rooks are playing, Frederik Rabe is their singer. A little later AnnenMayKantereit join them. The guys of AnnenMayKantereit are the older ones.. AMK does mostly German songs, Henning can also sing without that rasp, his voice is amazing, but I like Frederiks voice even more. Giant Rooks do English songs, even though they are Germans as well. One reason why I love Frederiks voice is their cover of Life On Mars (David Bowie): kzread.info/dash/bejne/paB9qZl6ldaddLA.html. And my favorite original song of Giant Rooks is Nightingales Of The Walled City: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zqlp0rKzcdSWmZM.html . It is a live performance because they haven't released it.

Henning May (the second guy) is 31 years old now btw. You're right he looks young like a baby. He doesn't know why either. His voice and face just a gift from God. And also they're very famous in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Turkey etc. AnnenMayKantereit has been making music since 2011. So it's the 12th year of their career. Btw I strongly recommend you to listen to AnnenMayKantereit's new album. Out only 3 days ago :)

You can't go wrong with this AMK-guys! They have plenty of recordings ... one better than the other! :) They don't just do covers, they have own songs, too - but in german language as they are german! But pretty epic stuff ... like their live shows - I attended to - a lot! :)

They are two German bands. Henning May, the singer of "Annenmaykantereit", sings their own songs mainly in German. That's probably the reason why you haven't heard of the band yet. They started out as a school band, then as street musicians in Germany. Now they play in front of 25,000 people.

The band, video and everything is great. I love them. The guy with hands in his pocket is the drummer for AMK because they came into sing with Gaint Rooks

First time I watched this video I was so immersed with their vocals that I didn't realize the two bands got together in the second room like that video of the gorilla you don't see at first or at least I didn't. Also, the guy you're laughing at happens to be a really good percussionist.

I think it was 2016 when I visited Cologne, my wife actually wanted to go shopping, but we met AnnenMayKantereit on a street corner. We stood there for 1 hour and were flashed, the band were street musicians at the time.

ok guys here some infos: annemaykanterei you allmost pronaunced it correctly, very good a lot of english peps have problem with that. its a made up name containing the family names of the three band members. also its a german band so the beer thing says nothing legal drinking age is germany is 16 (for beer no hard stuff thats 18) and last but not least: I'm from germany and have seen him life in a tiny little pub he was singing like 9 feet away from me (3m) we had a beer afterwards and YES he really sounds like that thats not fake. he is already very famous in germany because his voice is so unique. I think the fact that they recently started switching to english lyrics was a smart move he is really going viral lately. ok thats it have a nice day everyone.

It is said that a blues musician only makes real good music after having gone through some serious dire straits. Henning May has lost his mother when he was a little kid plus he lost a good friend later. That's what you hear when he sings. Yes, it is a coop. Hope you guys check out AnnenMayKantereit on yt altogether for yourselves, i.e. with their early street stuff in English. Henning May just.. rocks.

Annenmaykantereit has great songs (in german) you dont have to reat to them, but they are worth chekcing out. Great musicians with a huge variety of musical genres. :) You can basically hear through an album and clean your house in the meantime and the album flows. But live videos are obviously better. They also have some covers of classic songs on english but their german songs are musically awesome due to the variety of genres or styles. PS: The Kip guy is the Drummer of Annenmaykantereit :D

Great reaction. When I first heard Henning May's voice on that first verse, my mouth flew open. I'm so impressed with that deep, rich baritone voice and his band ANNENMAYKANTEREIT. Now, I've watched most of their videos in English. Come Together, Let It Be, Roxanne, Springsteen's I'm on Fire, Cant Get You Out of My Head (wirh Parcels) Justin Timberlake's Cry Me River, Amy Winehouse's Valerie (a duet with Natalie Findley), Neil Young's The Needle and The Damage Done. Henning also plays great pisno and guitar. Their original songs in English starting back in 2012 when they were a street band. LEAVIN, SOMEDAY SOMEWHERE, WAITING-- which is my favorite (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH WAITING FOR LUCY)which is good also, Your Door (S. Kantereit plays a cajone and a guest plays a steel drum with hands, C, Annen plays guitar and Henning on vocals) It just shows that if you are talented you dont have to have expensive instuments) Dont Say a Word. They played James( St James Infirmary) at Live in Berlin Concert which was abt 2017, I think. Huge following in Europe now. Have added electric base player and trumpet player and in large arenas guest musicians. You should listen to all of these songs just for the enjoyment. I'm. 100 per cent sure youll be just as impressed as I have been

I HIGHLY recommend some of AnnenMayKantereit‘s original songs. It’s not only Henning’s incredible voice that puts the spice in it, it’s also music-wise pretty special - a unique style with recognition value. In addition their lyrics are deep, interesting and touching, because most people can relate to the experiences and feelings they sing about! Three of my personal favorites are „Pocahontas“, „Barfuß am Klavier“ and „Hinter klugen Sätzen“. I‘d love you to check them out and to look up the translated lyrics right before. 😇
