Yes, it's a pity that mostly only Hennig May's impressive voice is highlighted, Frederic's talent gets a bit lost, and he has an impressive vocal variety. Because his voice sounds very different here than for example in his cover of "Adore You". They truly are! Put them both together and it's like Magic! It took someone pointing out to me that when they walked from one room to the next, that is was the 2 different bands! I am so oblivious sometimes! lol. Love how they did that, simple, and stuck to the pure talent alone, no bells or whistles needed! Oh, I go live each Monday at 6pm EST, taking requests and all the Lounge Lizards hang out in the Live chat. We have a blast! I live in Germany and have been familiar with these bands for several years now. Each of these two bands, Giant Rooks and AnnenMayKantereit, are phenomenal each on their own. Together they are even more incredible. They are all true musicians on a very high level. This song, Tom's Diner, is one I have always loved in its original version by Susan Vega. But this version is just in a league of its own. I am fortunate to hear the music from these bands on the radio here in Germany all the time. There has been a great wave of superb musicians and bands developing in Germany the past few years. Many of them already have a large international following. Keep an eye on Germany because the music scene in the country is very vibrant, creative and full of talent right now.

Hi Markus! I loved this, so much! I was never a huge fan of the original, but it had that catchy melody, so I sang it whenever it came on the radio whether I wanted to or not (I do that, Don't ask me why. If I know the lyrics, I will sing it), lol. As for other German artists, the only other one I believe I have reacted to is "Rammstein". They were pretty intense! I did like it a lot though (I think there are 2 Rammstein videos) Feel free to share some other popular German artists, and links, if you like. I will check into them! Cheers!

Hi there, may an other German make an suggestion. German's music isn't very popular outside of Germany. But we have so many wonderful and creative bands here. Maybe you try to make a special of German music. It isn't all like Rammstein or Scorpions. Giant Rooks for example is a very creative indie band, also AMK (spoken: annen-may-kantereit ei in german is spoken like the englisch I), GR is more in to english and AMK mor in German texts. BUT the music and the voices are not necessarily depends to the choosen language. Great Channel by the way.

I'm 34 years ol and think this is the best lyrical performance I have ever heard.

In fact the band consists of 5 guys but only three of them appear in the band's name. Hint: Listen to their songs with German lyrics - musically they're worth it! I tried to figure how to translate them to English but counting the syllables and end rimes is making things difficult. 'Barfuß am Klavier'' (Barefoot at the piano) is such a modern love song about a love that didn't work. Henning May wrote this at age 17... he's not only the voice. He also wrote two songs for his father who will be interesting, too: 'Immer nur dich' (Always just you) - just imagine a lyric line like 'You dressed me up, re-dressed, undressed me...' or ' I've got no Homeland. I've just got you and always just you'.

I had the same reaction when I stumbled across the original video. I was expecting another typical cover song, and was blown away when Henning May started to sing.

hehe, did I suggest this? Anyway - I love them... the band is named after the three founding members: Christopher Annen, guit., harp. / Henning May vocals, piano, guit. ukulele, harmonica / Severin Kantereit, perc.... that's the band in the first room, the other band in the second room are Giant Rooks. Henning may from AMK is the guy with the deep raspy voice, the guys are absolutely fire.... next maybe "Roxanne" or "I Can't Get You Out Of My Head", or "Valerie" - they have great original songs a swell but those are all in German :)

And the singer of Giant Rooks is called Frederik Rabe. Giant Rooks do english songs, AnnenMayKantereit do mostly german songs. I like Hennings voice but I love Frederiks voice. Giant Rooks cover of Life on Mars is amazing. Fred's voice will give you goosebumps. And AMK's song, Du Bist Anders is pretty incredible, too. Neither group has a 'bad' song. They're both just phenomenal!

The 2nd singer with deep raspy baritone voice is Henning May. His band menbers were in the qst room. Fred Rame is qst singer. Great Rooks is his band 2nd room. @@TheSpeakEasyLounge Hey :) He also does a Kylie Minogue and "Cant get you out of my head".. They have great covers but their own songs are actually better in my opinion. Obviously they are in german most of the time so lyrically thigns will get lsot in translation. They have covers out there because they were actually street musicians until a few years ago. If you want to see their live quality (not even reacting to it) just for yourself if you want. Maybe the song "Tommi" is one for you. Live on a huge stage, lots of acoustics and piano and very emotional singing in their native collogne accent from germany about being back home. Dont have to react, listen by yourself its great musicians and you dont need to know the lyrics if you know they sing about jsut being back home in their town. Its about them leaving to go out in the world and someday they will be back to raise their child in their homeground :D

Both guys are awesome. Their voices are very different so I can't compare the 2. But, for me, I lean more towards Fred Rabe. Reminds me a bit of Alanis Morrisette. I was so into her music in the 90's. She had a unique voice as well.

It’s pronounced “Annen -My-Kan-Ter-Right” so you were close. The first singer is Frederick Rabe from Giant Rooks. The second singer is Henning May (My) from AMK, whose name is the surnames of its members.

The original song has a lot more verses- I wish they did all the rest of the verses. If you haven't heard the original its Tom's Diner by Susan Vegz- you react to that too.

They started reworking known electronic music productions into acoustic versions, but they also make their own tracks and have done very nice collaborations with electronic music artists like Stephan Bodzin or n'to. Another really awesome collaboration was with the german duo Ätna (Ätna x Meute - Weirdo). I also suggest them for another reaction, because they made a very nice and emotional song, with a nice twist, called: Try (Ätna | Try | Live @ Reeperbahn Festival 2020).

@@TheSpeakEasyLounge Suzanne Vega released the song originally in 1987. This is a cover, obviously. But she is merely telling a story of her experience one morning in Tom's Diner in New York City. It was the diner used in Seinfeld later on. It is closed now. You can certainly go back and listen to her original song, too. Her version is very good, as well. She wrote it in 1982, but it was not released on an album until 1987.
