Alexander Pollock There were things they got right in both of those episodes, though. I can't say I like Dumped, but I can't say I dislike it either. However, Krusty Krushers, I give points because it doesn't actually show SpongeBob and Patrick being in a constant state of pain/misery, thus disqualifying it from being a torture porn. And Mr. Krabs does face consequences for being a selfish asshole in this episode. Also, the "My Leg!!" gag comes back. It was stupid, but it's not the worst.

You know...why wouldn't Spongebob go work at the Chum Bucket? They're literally always hiring, especially the moneymaker of their rival.

It happened in one episode. SpongeBob hated it because Mr. Krabs spoiled him and Plankton didn't.

This episode does suck quite a bit of ass, but Patrick is close to, if not at, his original personality; he's supposed to be a lazy idiot, not an immoral sociopath, and he seems to actually care about Spongebob in this episode. Granted, his 'help' doesn't help at all, but it doesn't feel malicious for once.

***** SpongeBob was pretty close to his original character, too. If you forget about what he did in episodes like Choir Boys or Boating Buddies, you'd feel bad for the guy, 'cause that job at the Krusty Krab was more than just a job to him. It was a strong part of him. And in a normal circumstance, people lay people off to save money, not fire them. (It's complicated what the difference is.) SpongeBob didn't do anything to deserve to get fired, and he gets fired for a FUCKING NICKEL. Squidward's character in this episode seems similar to his character in Little Yellow Book.

Just goes to show you, even when you put 2 of the most jarring characters on the show in their original character, it still isn't enough to make a good episode. There was so much more they could've done to make this a better "special". Shows on Nickelodeon used to have a magic touch to them. IDK what happened to them.

Alternate Ending: Spongebob creates his own snail food company, due to Gary's like for it. He's able to retire and live alone with Gary with his millions. Krabs has been arrested, showing a montage of everything illegal he's done, ending with him being thrown into a jail cell. Patrick becomes who he used to be, as he, spongebob, squidward and Sandy are all at Krabs' cell. Krabs promises he won't do anything bad ever again, to the ignoring of the cast. They leave him be in prison, as the show and Nickelodeon come to an end. After the credits there's a short montage of all of the series' best moments followed by "Thanks for staying by our side"

***** Not continuity in the traditional sense, I'm also talking about how in modern Spongebob, most leave out continuity events which makes some of the characters OOC. Larry the Lobster not knowing spongebob is a recent thing that comes to mind.

When they went on strike, the episode ended with Krabs forcing them to stay forever. Squidward just hasn't gotten a lucky ticket out while Spongebob missed his chance here.

And let's not also forget this, Spongebob become a successful businessman for his snail food company, as for Squidward, he chases his dreams and succeed to become a famous clarinet player and gets a record deal as his career skyrocketed and his first single goes Pearl within the next week, selling out concerts. Eugene on the other hand struggles to make a single patty since no one in Bikini Bottom is unable to cook one, as he falls behind on bills as well as receiving an eviction notice and the day after that he lost the Krusty Krab. So he had no other choice but to give his secret recipe for the krabby patties to his long time arch nemesis, Sheldon Plankton.

Had the writers actually used Mr. Enter's suggestions, this episode could have been truly mind-blowing: Spongebob's hidden talent for making snail food leads him to launch a profitable new business. He decides he likes his financial independence, and as such when Mr. Krabs asks him to come back to work for him, Spongebob righteously tells the cheapskate to go die in a hole. Some time later, Spongebob's snail food business boosts him to the top of Bikini Bottom, ultimately allowing him to buy out the Krusty Krab, and eventually fire Mr. Krabs over (what else?) a nickel. This would be awesome for two reasons: it would give Mr. Krabs the punishment he's deserved since LONG before "One Coarse Meal," and it would indicate that Spongebob is FINALLY ready to start growing up. But no, that kind of plot would have required a fundamental reworking of the entire series. The writers must assume that's heretical. I don't know: considering how bad this show's become, I think a fundamental reworking is just what we need.

I haven't watched Songebob in a long time, but i heard this episode was getting so much praise, so I gave it a try. When they got to the part when he makes his own snail food, I genuinely thought this was going to be something different, that he was gong to start his own business or something. That was such a missed opportunity, especially for a season finale. I mean, I know it was very unlikely, but I was hoping it would end on a cliffhanger or something (and then back to the status quo in the next one). Well, now that Korra is ending, Nickelodeon is officially dead to me.

I think the difference there is that Squidward calls him out on his actions and he immediately regrets his decision. I know Spongebob would have come back anyway, since it was Spongebob constantly talking that made him come back, rather than Mr Krabs wanting him back, but he still learned his lesson in the end.

This is done in a somber tone and is supposed to seem "rational" in some way, shape, or form, so it fails as a joke and is distracting for anyone who can process even the most basic plot.

Phoebe Henderson Accept Born Again Krbas, Krabs learns his lesson...and that episode's funny.

"That's a great lesson for the kids!" Well when you think about it, Spongebob is a cartoon that basically glorifies being a literal manchild. That concept in itself is not a very good lesson for the kids.

This episode contradicts Born Again Krabs. In that episode, Mr. Krabs sold SpongeBob for $.62 to death to the Flying Dutchman and Squidward scolded him which made Mr. Krabs regret his actions and get SpongeBob back. In here, Mr. Krabs fires SpongeBob a.k.a., his best fry cook, son, and glue to the Krusty Krab for a nickel and Squidward is happy and calls it Krabs' best business decision. That is my biggest pet peeve of the episode. What happened to Squidward in this episode since Born Again Krabs.

I only hate his modern self because of flanderization. There was an old episode where he actually did care for Spongebob, although he needed a bit of persuasion. Now he's a literal criminal.

And if there's a bad episode as well as a bad show that is airing or used to be aired in the past it is his job not actual job but job to tell the world on what's wrong it after all, and also it's more satisfying to people watching him attacking a bad episode as well as a bad show they.

Here's how it should've gone (notice the intentional callbacks, rather than lazy recycling of ideas): The SpongeBob series finale (not that I want the show to end, but it'd work best this way) opens with SpongeBob starting to make a Krabby Patty, but the order slip catches fire on the grill and, in a callback to _Nature Pants_, SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs try to handle the situation and fail: the fire department has to come in and stop it. Mr. Krabs consults his insurance agency and ultimately decides that SpongeBob is a liability and is forced to fire him (the phone conversation resembles that from the start of _Model Sponge_). SpongeBob tries to get a job at Weenie Hut Junior's and the restaurant from _Le Big Switch_, but, like in _Le Big Switch_, he can't seem to make anything but Krabby Patties. One day, he finds he's out of Snailpo, and makes some homemade snail food. Gary enjoys it, so does Patrick, and SpongeBob, in a callback to _Missing Identity_, tries it himself, expecting the worst, and enjoys it, too. He decides to go into business selling his homemade snail food, selling it in assorted colors (a callback to _Pretty Patties_). One day he's on a constitutional and walks by the Krusty Krab. He sees what a wreck the place is, and wonders if he should try and get his job back, but someone comes by, and reveals he's planning to apply for the job. SpongeBob evaluates his knowledge of the craft, and when he finds that he's as good a fry cook as he ever was, he gives him a pat on the back and wishes him luck. The Krusty Krab is doing fine, SpongeBob is raking in the bucks by the thousands with his assorted color snail food recipe, everyone's happy, *The End*. It'd be a nice way to end the show: it began with SpongeBob being hired at the KK, and it would've ended with him moving on from the KK

I'm not really a fan of Spongebob, but I love Tom Kenny. Poor Tom Kenny.

I used to like G3... For 5 years. Thankfully I absolutely hated G3.5 and Newborn Demons.

actually everything was good until the kidnapping part because it makes a decent plot. Spongebob gets fired from multiple jobs and without a job he loses money for snail food. Gary's hungry so Spongebob makes him food. realizing that his food is good he makes a small company from his home or lemonade stand style. when snail owners come along and buy it he starts getting recognition which leads him to having a large company and becoming rich. Mr.Krabs kidnaps him and ask him to come back but he refuses and starts his new life. this would had been a great opportunity for them to end the show. Why drag something that's been dead or in a comatose for years now? *Cough* Fairy Odd Parents *Cough*

If anything, Spongebob starting a Snail Food business after getting fired to get back at Krabs would have been a much better plot for this episode.

Ways to make this episode better: 1. Remove the filler and make this 11 minutes. 2. Make Mr Krabs fire Spongebob in a logical way, like he was being replaced, or to give him a small break without telling him, or ANYTHING!

8:27 there was actually an episode of Squidward learning how to defend himself with karate, yah wanna know how it ends? Squidward beat up an innocent man on accident and then gets arrested for it.

So then a better version of this episode, based on your observation, would be thusly: -Spongebob, due to his usual goofy attitude and aloof negligence inadvertently sets the Krusty Krab on fire. -Mr Krabs sees this as the last straw and is forced to fire Spongebob recounting his other misadventures that have led to the destruction of the Krusty Krab in the past. -The scenes of Spongebob downtrodden whilst taking care of Gary would be shortened to maybe a minute or 2 tops. -When Patrick shows up to try and teach Spongebob the "fun" of unemployment he speaks about how Squidward normally tosses food at them. But when they get to Squidward's house he isn't there and is instead partying or at least smiling it up at work. -Figuring that they know where else they can get free food they head to plankton who is trying to give "free" samples to test new recipes. -Sandy, being an ethical scientist who cares about Spongebob would stop him from eating it and then give him a much needed pep talk. As well as give Plankton a snippy comment about how effed up he is for doing what he's doing. -Being in a cheerful mood, Spongebob would then look for a new job and while he's looking, perhaps on the classifieds(instead of wasting filler on rip offs of past episodes), he feeds Gary again who meows in delight absent Patrick and lets Spongebob know how great the food is. -With all this new spare time the episode could do a montage of Spongebob making himself a success selling snail food with some hints that he misses being a frycook. -Cut to Mr. Krabs and Squidward, who are both solidly in the wrong at this point, being in a loop with no customers. -Because unfortunately the status quo is god, things return to normal after Spongebob reconciles with Mr. Krabs and shuts down his snail food company(perhaps including a cute frame of Gary smiling in an empty factory full of delicious snail food). He's a frycook again and right as he's about to drop paper on the grill again, catches it this time and laughs as the episode cuts to black.

No, it was not.

A few things: 1: Remember in the movie when Mr. Krabbs told Spongebob that to be a manager, he needs to grow up? That was far more sympathetic towards him than him than when the he fires him for financial reasons. Mr. Krabbs is little more than a fucking kleptomaniac. And for the record, Krabbs, it's called volunteer work! 2: You know, Spongebob is probably the closest to his original personality in this episode, which actually makes him really, really likable. I think that, despite the flaws of this episode, this series could eventually get back on track. Even Patrick is not too bad in this, especially compared to I'm With Stupid and Yours Mine and Mine.

I Always thought Yours Mine and Mine was worse than stuck in the wringer. At least, in Stuck in the wringer, Patrick realised his mistake at the end.

If I were a voice actress in Spongebob since season 1, I would have quit in season 4. I don't care how high they'd pay me, the quality of cartoons means a lot to me and I'm sure there would be better opportunities. Seriously though, I'd like to know if the va's actually find their scripts humorous nowadays.

I think the episode you're thinking of for "forced to leave for a small amount of money" is "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?" I haven't seen "Bummer Vacation" and I don't know whether you mean forced to leave over a small amount of money or forced to leave with a small amount of money as payment for the day. I'm pretty sure it's the former.

Imagine a multi-episode plot arc where Spongebob starts his own snail food company. There could be some refreshing new antics with all the characters put in the new dynamic temporarily.

I think Nickelodeon wanted a special to be about Spongebob getting fired. This did not please any of the writers because they could not find anymore creative potential about Spongebob getting fired. They already did the Spongebob fired thing (even the ones where he thought he was fired) in Karate Choppers, Squid on Strike, Sleepy Time, Hooky, Bummer Vacation and Model Sponge and they saw no reason to do another but Nickeloden probably threatened them and they were forced to do it causing them stress and as a result, we get this mess of a special.

Another theory for why we tend to have a lot of really bad episodes primarily from Seasons 6 to 8 is because Nickelodeon likes to keep rushing production just to get more ratings. The writers didn't have much time to think for either good jokes or a good story. They're kinda sick of Nickelodeon. They wanted to quit but due to their contracts, they were kinda hostages to Nickelodeon (I think the Krabby Kronicle might be a metaphor of how the Nick execs treat the staff of Spongebob). However, a lot of these contracts are now expired and those writers are now free. Stephen Hillenburg and some of the other writers of Pre-Movie Spongebob have come back to work on Season 9.

So Spongegbob gets a Job at, Weenie Hut. Not Weenie Hut Jr., not Super Weenie Hut Jr., not even Weenie Hut General, just... Weenie Hut. Wow, the writers really are going out of their way to kill old Spongebob.

When it seems like there's going to be something to change the show's formula, but something happens that keeps that same formula going. If Spongebob stayed fired, this episode would have averted that trope.

***** It dosn't necesserly mean "anty climax" there can be a climax that preserves the satus quo. Think about this this way, "status quo is god" is the reason you know that they ussualy won't kill the protagonist in the middle of the series. To a certin degree this is pretty omnipresent, all shows have invariable elements, but when it's taken to extreem, when a show's formula _needs_ to be refreshed or when change that would be good for the show is teased to strongly this can get *relly* annoying.

You know this could have been a great chance to entirely mix up the show. New restaurant, new characters other than Krabs and Squidward, might have been good.

The way you said "chef on the S.S. Diarrhea" so calmly....I've been laughing for 3 minutes straight.

Nice touch with the Heavy Rain music. It almost sounds like we're mourning the passing of the old Spongebob -- heck, the passing of the old Nickelodeon.

B...b...but the snail food plotline was right there for them. Why didn't they take it? Why include that scene and then not use it? I'm guessing some sort of conflict between the producers wanting the status quo and the writers wanting to shake things up.

They could have easily returned to status quo in that plot. Spongebob starts his business and becomes a big success, but realizes he has to actually run the business when all he wants to do is be a fry cook. He returns to the Krusty Krab, and is welcomed back because Mr. Krabs is an awful cook. Give Mr. Krabs a good reason for firing him, and the episode could've been great.

Lets be honest here, Squidward playing the super hero was quite awesome. For once he got a cool scene and not a torture porn.

Best Day Ever wasn't the show's first ratings trap. That double-length special from season 3 where he threw a house party and nothing else remotely memorable happened was.

"Party Pooper Pants" may have indeed been a ratings trap (technically, aren't ALL "special episodes" designed to farm viewers?), but it is still LIGHT-YEARS better than garbage like "Best Day Ever" or this thing.

Raving Rando I call that episode a ratings trap because almost nothing happens in it. As for Best Day Ever, I think that's purely on Nick, since it's an 11 minute episode. Nick just advertised as special for no reason whatsoever despite being a normal length episode much like what they did a few months later to the series finale of Catscratch.

Spongebob is notorious for over hyping average/ lackluster episodes by spending weeks advertising them as the best things ever and padding the episodes out with Patchy segments.

Wasn't this entire concept done before? Spongebob was fired and he tried to get other jobs but could only make burgers. A tried to be a banker and he ended up chopping the money into the shape of a patty, he tried to be a builder and turned the building into a giant mental patty, etc.,etc. Even the whole "saved by a patty" thing has been done before!

Apparently when Squidward lost his job, it is okay, but when Spongebob did, PEOPLE LOSE THEIR GODDAMN MINDS

That's no surprise. SpongeBob actually does his job whereas Squidward pretty much neglects his duty behind the register.

Why do I get the feeling that Mr. Krabs is starting to become a bigger antagonist in SpongeBob SquarePants than Plankton was earlier in the show?

Employee: Why did you eat Snailpo?

You know, in this very episode, you have Spongebob regenerate, and not just that, but *cutting himself in tiny versions of himself*. If that is the case, then why, oh why, didn't he just cut his arm or hand when the hotdog guy chained him? Seriously, there's bad writing, and then there's just not caring.

Don't forget "Greasy Buffoons" where he illegally dumps AND serves customers so much grease they all get sick. Oh yeah, he also tried to serve rotten meat twice and tried to steal the secret ingredient for his patties because he didn't want to pay $2.

Could you do an episode on that episode where Squidward reads Spongebob's diary? It was just godawful, and they hyped up his random bullshit secrets like there was going to be some kind of big reveal.

Just like "Truth or Square", which said THAT SpongeBob and Sandy were getting MARRIED, this episode was all OMG ALL THE SECRETS WERE COMING OUT!!! FGTYGFYEHGKNACKALACKJEFHRBFYRGTEGFYRGYGFEGUGYWGYUGEUGUYWGYUREU OVERLOAD NUBS OVERLOADURIUFGTUHGUITHRUGH (BOOM) So basically, both episodes were way to overhyped, terrible, rushed, and also killing off anyone in this gen who likes SpongeBob! I really want to call him SpengBab BlockShitPants. And with the big reveal, I FUCKING DESPISE SPENGBAB BLOCKSHITPANTS! I want SpongeBob to go back to when he was actually GOOD/Seasons 1 - 3. Oh, and anyone who says that any SpongeBob thing that is post-movie, I WILL FUCKING FIGHT YOU, AND WIN, ON THE SIDEOF THE STREET!

4:49 "I will when you tell a f**king story!"

Here's how I'd end it: Spongebob gets the idea to sell the snail food he made as "Spongebob's Selections" from his home, diligently working hard. We see a montage of years passing by as he buys out the restaurants that called him back after they kicked him out, abd "Squarepants, Inc." becomes a pet food/ chain restaurant magnate. As 20 years go by, Spongebob enters the Krusty Krab abd Krabs' office to see an elderly Krabs give Spongebob the papers to purchase the Krusty Krab. After signing it and before sealing the deal, he says in a near somber tone "Y'know, I remember how there'd always be a new scheme of yours to get more money. Since the time I left, and though it was illegal, I'll always miss those times when it was just you, me and Squidward." Then, after a heartfelt conversation, Krabs and Spongebob shake hands, and Spongebob tearfully hugs him. "I'm gonna miss those days too, boy," says Krabs at the end of it. With a snetimental pang in his heart, Spongebob grabs the papers and puts them in a briefcase he brought, and walks out the doors of the re-opened Krusty Krab. Fade to white, with a message saying "In loving memory of Stephen Hillenberg, Thank you for Twenty Years." Honestly, it would've been better as a series finale.

I saw this episode when it first aired, and it was TERRIBLE! I mean, this is a new low, even for Mr. Krabs and Viacom. And when they showed the code in the middle of the episode, they were so dumb they made the code '1111'. How dumb do they think we are?! I mean, even kids felt insulted by that code. Also, would you do a animated atrocity on an Adventure Time, Regular Show, or Gravity Falls episode?

Also, this episode spits in the face of continuity. Spongebob has not been a show with tons of continuity, but really, this breaks SOOOO much established items in the show. I really agree with people who say that the show should end after the second movie, like they were going to do with the first movie.... and this may seem off topic, but if you put on captions, when Mr. Enters says 'You're a fucking fish' the captions say 'You're a fucking fetish'

i wonder how he feels that on 24th of september spongebob was voted 8th greatest cartoon of all time

Better Plot, very early in, he makes snail food and gives it to Gary, after seeing the success, he starts selling it to people and eventually building up to a large corporation. Due to his work, he never notices the condition of the KK on the decline. Soon, Mr. K sets up an appointment, but he is busy and K gets no appointment, so he has to sneak in through the vents, cliche ly falls out of it to Spongebob. He begs him to come back, and Spongebob considers it, then his 3:00 comes in and tells him how happy his pet had been as a result, or he gets fan mail that tells him how happy they are about his Snail Food, which causes him to stay. He soon begs, but is unable to convince him, and he soon kicked out, Tara Tara Tara, working montage! Spongebob grows increasingly overworked until he feels burned out from within. Soon, he becomes so overworked, he falls unconscious and has to go to the hospital, who tells him of severe overwork deteriorating his physical state. Seeing this issue, he goes for a walk and decides he needs a break for a while. He goes for a walk, unhappy but he doesn't know why, even though he is successful, he doesn't feel content or joyous for some reason. Soon, he finds the KK. It is just about to close for... obvious (Welcome to the Chum Bucket flashbacks) and seeing Spongebob, 🦀 gets hopeful. Sadly, he is only here to eat, and K decides to give him a patty, for old times sake before it closes. Remembering the times, he walks in to see it... well... a disaster, but he ignores it, he sees it, but ignores it. After some disaster, he gets a Krabby Patty and it is just awful. He questions what is going on, and then sees how it is being made. He pushes 🦀 out and says, "this is how it's done" He makes a Patty perfectly and a customer walks in just in time to taste it. The cooking and customer enjoying it reminds him why he did what he did, and he realized he wasn't happy with his job now. He realizes that this is what he wanted to do, and even though he was successful, he loved this, not the other job. He then ask for his job back, 🦀 acts Tsun, but later complied and Sponge gets his job back, and makes people happy doing what he loves. It ends with 🦑 asking who he left the Corp to, cut to a scene with Gary and Sandy? I don't know 🤷‍♀️ in charge and running things smoothly, and the episode ends. The story I feel is decent, the morals are easy to see, and it has just the right drama and heartfelt sap for a special. Also, 🦀 GIVES A GOOD REASON FOR FIRING HIM! This is a case where we all know how it will end, but is still interesting to watch nonetheless.

At least spongebob has a believable reason to cry. What would you do if you had a great job (in your mind) and you got fired for stupid bullshit? See, Spongebob would cry for this in the old episodes too.
