FISH MOLEY
(FISH COOKED WITH GREEN CHILIES AND COCONUT
1/2 kg good fleshy fish of your choice sliced thickly
2 medium onions sliced finely
3 green chilies sliced lengthwise
1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
1 teaspoon black pepper powder
1/2 teaspoon chillie powder
1 teaspoon peppercorns
1 cup thick coconut milk
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon lime / lemon juice ( or vinegar)
2 tablespoons oil
1 medium size tomato chopped into 8 pieces
8 to 10 curry leaves
Wash the fish well and rub all over with a little of the turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon chillie powder and a little salt. Keep aside.
In a flat pan add the oil and sauté the sliced onions, pepper corns,
and curry leaves.
Add the ginger garlic paste and fry for a few minutes
Add the coriander powder and tomatoes and fry for a minute.
Add the, lime juice salt, coconut milk and 1 cup of water and mix well. Bring to boil
Now add the fish. Shake the pan so that the fish is covered with the mixture. Cook on low heat for about 5 or 6 minutes.
Sprinkle the pepper on top and turn off the heat. Shake the dish so that the tomatoes and pepper get mixed with the stew.
Note: The tomatoes should not get cooked. They are added to give some colour to the dish. The pepper added in the end gives it an irresistible aroma.
Serve with Hoppers, Bread or steamed rice

Thanks Christine. How nice that I cook like your mum 🤗
As someone from North Malabar I was surprised to hear fish molee is also made in Anglo Indian homes. Fish molee Appams, mutton stew n ghee rice are a very integral part of every celebration at home The difference in the recipe for fish molee that we make is that its most important to lightly toast the fish before adding it to the curry.

Yes Anglo-Indian Cuisine took on many regional influences so while the dish remains the same, there is a slight variation in ingredients and preparation. Thank you so much for your insights. God bless

Nice Recipe, Do you think shallow frying the fish before adding would also be nice?
@bridgetwhiteangloindianrecipes
Жыл бұрын
Thank you. You could shallow fry the fish before adding to the gravy if you like. The choice is yours . However, I have noticed that if the raw fish is added to the bubbling gravy, it absorbs the flavours of the gravy more beautifully rather than the shallow fried fish.
Your kinda sweet
