The mix of emotions in this song are so complex that there isn't a word for it in English. there's aching love, a hint of insecurity, sadness, and other nuances I can't even put a finger on.

Angelina's first laguage is norwegian. Her dad is swedish, and her mother is iranian/japanese, growing up in Norway! They have lived in several countries around the world, including USA where Angelina spent 3 years in kindergarten/ pre-school- this is why she has an american accent :)

I 100% agree with you in what you said about "professional" labels and producers that flatten artists with their compressors, autotunes, polishing, retakes and clipping. They are soul and identity killers. Please, higher powers, save her from them!!!!!

I love this angel.

She will eventually break out and become a mega-star. But for now her parents are keeping her grounded, as a child. Her education comes first and foremost, and that's a good thing. Angelina is without a doubt very intelligent. You can't ignore that for any reason. She is young. There is no hurry. She has time to get it all done.

Welcome back! Regarding Angelina's language ability, I read somewhere that English is her third language, and I've seen her speaking Norwegian and Swedish in interviews. As a non-native speaker her English is perhaps among the best - she already spoke quite well in 2014 while appearing at ABC's program The View. I totally agree with you, Young & Beautiful is one of many Angelina covers in which she sounds prettier than the original. I was particularly struck by the subtle feeling of vulnerability she was able to convey in this song, which is nowhere to be found in the original. Likewise I wish that she would stay true to herself and produce her own music. I believe that she's got all the songs in her heart already, it's just a matter of time for them to come out and amaze the world.

I listened to this earliere and looking at the comments I saw a negative one that compared this to Lana Del ray saying that Lana had a better voice and her song was much better. I have been listening to Angelina on a daily basis since AGT and so I had to go listen to the other artist. Well, I'm back listening to Angelina again to compare. Lana Del Rey's performance was okay but she does not compare to Angelina in several ways. Angelina's phrasing is better, her lower register is stronger and there is more depth in her overall musicality to this number than the other artist. Also, her tone is so much more pleasing. The one strong thing about Angelina is that she can adapt her style to any song she performs from this style to "I put a spell on you." Wolf Rock comments on her smokey texture in her voice are right on. She uses that voice in other songs when it is appropriate for the particular song she is performing. This young lady is definitely one of a kind.. Angelina was once again better than the original.

Yes, whatever she does in the future, it needs to be what *she* wants and not what somone else wants for her (i.e., label, manager… even me =). She not only deserves that, I think she's _earned_ it.

I love this song more than the Born To Die. I am talking about the song. not about Angelina. In both songs, however, Angelina sings much better than Lana del Ray. This song, Young and Beautiful, I can listen non-stop. So soothing.

Angelina has her own production company---Angelina Jordan, Inc. She has produced an album (It's Magic), and two singles (Bohemian Rhapsody and What a Difference a Day Makes) under her label, that are available on all the premium channels (Apple, Amazon, iTunes, Spotify, etc.), and for purchase at her official channels. And they are all fantastic. She will not be controlled by any record company, and will chart her own course. She was scheduled to release her new album (all originals) in April (I believe), but the pandemic has changed things. So I don't know when she plans to release it. Because of the restrictions on travel, I believe she is still in the United States. She has not posted a new performance since AGT aired in Jan/Feb. But she has many people reacting to her previous performances (like you). Some are just discovering her, while others are old friends (like you). Maybe somebody knows more and can bring us up to date on her current situation. Best wishes.

Thank you for this reaction to Angelina Jordan. English are the 3rd lanuage because of her family with her fatter in the oil industry but norwegian is her first lanuage.

The genre is: Angelina Lana has been a favorite of mine for years, and nobody covers her like Angelina. With all the texture she puts on this one, I think she manages to "out Lana" even Lana herself. As much as I like Lana... with this song, and "born to die", I would rather listen to Angelina's versions. I'm not sure if it is accurate to say that English is her "second" language. I believe she learned English right along side Norwegian, and she speaks perfect English in everything I have seen. I think sometimes people mistake her "creative pronunciations" as mispronunciations. There are certainly some examples of her mispronouncing a word, but I think there are many more examples of her saying a word a certain way strictly for the effect it will have on the emotion of the song.

Most Norwegians learn English early in their education, but Angelina's pronunciation is superb. I think the same "ear" she has to emulate great artists carries into her language skills.

@Concerned Citizen Yes, I think her primary purpose for being in LA is to have access to more musical training than was available in Norway. This is nothing against the level of training available in Norway... it's just a numbers thing. I think the population of LA alone is higher than the whole country of Norway... and a huge part of that population is there for the pursuit of the arts. It's the most logical location for anyone wanting to achieve greatness.

A good label should never push an artist to change but allow them to change if they want to themself

Totally agree but that said, Angelina always keeps things fresh if not better, with her own unique renditions like any true artistes and this is what will give her staying power in this cutthroat music businesses. I hope she always stay grounded no matter what life throws at her.

I heard an interview that The Warning gave to a youtube channel, some musician from England and he was happy they stayed independent, they said yes that they have been approached by record companies, but the company wanted control of the type of music they would produce and they didn't like that, even to the point of wanting to change their style so they said no to the record companies. The interviewer was saying that if you get enough fans from KZread that you can get a better deal with record companies. And that's what I hope for Angelina that she can get enough fans through KZread that she is able to control her own music and get a great deal someday but there is no hurry, just pray she enjoys life and is able to creator more music of her own. I looked at your Angelina videos and you have two of her original songs but you still need to react to "Oslo: very different than the other two this one is about her hometown and kind of mystical. I heard the wrote it traveling from LA back to Norway. Also, there are two that were written for her 1 is a 200-year-old poem "A song for A" and the other is a dance song by an EDM duo that wanted her to sing the lyrics, another on very different than anything she has done before, "Above The Water". I think she did fabulous.

Angelina will never have to worry about losing us old timers over 50, I worry about maybe Grace will take over some of the young crowd that would have went to Angelina. Grace has the blessings of Disney. I always thought she would have made a terrific Mouseketeer. But never would be as great as Annette Funicello

And a little more information: Angelina refused to agree to the binding agreements in AGT, but I think they were aware of this, but still wanted her to attend to bring as many viewers as possible. Then there was no way she could win. The entire acclaimed music industry knows who she is, and she was invited to sing for Quincy Jones during his 85th birthday at O2 Arena London. She has also collaborated with David Foster, Gene Simmons, Alan Walker. In addition to singing at the Nobel Prize concert 8 year old. She has also sung for Obama. This is just something from her résumé at 14 years old and the list is much longer. So it was really AGT that she was lucky that she showed up. But as I said, AGT is just a TV show and not a competition. Calling it a Talent Competition is too stupid. The only thing that was real is all the amazing talents we saw and heard. Note! She is also Norway's youngest author with published book 9 years old! Composer Nico Cartosio especially wrote a piece that he wanted Angelina to perform vocally. I've seen video of Angelina in school at a young age, and they use English a lot. I think that is the case in other countries. She may be in a private school

I think the trouble with Angelina's word pronunciation is that her English is so accent free that people don't realize it's her second language. The way she sometime clips the end of a word is just a trait of her native Norwegian. Just a theory. It doesn't affect how beautiful she sings and never will.

If I am not mistaken, Norwegian is her first language, then comes the language spoken by her grandmother, and she can hold understand and speak some japanese. With a voice like her's; I can forgive her mispronunciations lol. Even Karen Carpenter mispronounced hope as "hoop" in the song " I need to be in love" lol. Both are completely forgiveable and make them even more human. I am extremely impressed with both of them. I only pray that Angelina doesn't get trapped in the pitfalls of Hollywood or fame. As to why Angelina was never corrected I don't know but I love her vocals as they are.
