Every time I listen to this I wipe the tears away. I do remember when this song first came out in the fifties.

From one Vietnam-era Vet to another, this performance of this iconic song by a 17 year-old girl who graduated from high school only a few months before this event, brought tears to my eyes, too. Angelina sings emotions, and she was definitely FEELING this song during this performance. I can't even imagine what the future holds for her, but I can pray that whatever that my be, it will be for her highest good, and the highest good for all humanity. 💕❤💕

Dear Sir, a song about an imprisoned man, who longs for his loved ones, sung by a world class singer of Iranian heritage (grandma Mery had to flee) in front of the children of a Iranian woman, sentenced to 31 years of prison and 154 whiplashes, because she wanted equal rights for women. I greatly respect your commentary about the choices Angelina made for this performance. As always, it is about the song and the occasion, for Angelina. I thought "Unchained Melody" was an odd choice for this event, but have since learned the history of the song. More on that later. Certainly Angelina was thrilled to be performing back in her home country of Norway, where she is a national treasure, but this performance goes way beyond that honor. She first performed at the Save the Children event at the 2014 Peace Prize event, when she was 8 years old. Narges Mohammadi was this year's recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian. We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change. In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time". The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run, or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release. Note: It has been 9 years since Nargea has seen her twin daughter and Son and her Husband.

Angelina performed this at the Nobel Peace Prize ceramony for Margis Mohammadi who is currently in prison in Iran for her stand on women's rights and opposition to the death penalty. I cried too when I first heard this and many times when watching it again. There’s a lot behind this performance which I’m sure many other angels (which is what Angelina calls her fans) that can fill you in better than I can. Angelina never ceases to amaze me and I’ve got to listen to at least one of her songs or covers every day, she just soothes my soul.

I never thought I would hear another performance of this beautiful song to rival Bobby Hatfield's, but Angelina's performance is right there beside his.

Angelina and KORK(Norwegian Radio Orchestra) just did a magnificent rendition of Unchained Melody! The perfect song for Narges Mohammadi Nobel Peace Prize! And let’s not forget Angelina’s Iranian heritage and Oslo is her hometown! Third time with KORK, she did Back to Black and Summertime when she was 10! Has been invited twice to Nobel Peace Prize, previously appeared when she was eight! She has brought grace and elegance back to the stage! Narges is in jail for leading the fight for women’s rights in Iran! At the end Angelina puts her hand over her heart acknowledging Narges children who were on stage and happen to be Angelina’s age and are living in exile in France! There is a video of her working with the director of KORK and a pianist doing the arrangement for this performance it is outstanding!

Angelina inspires me to do what I can to help make the world a better place, so I am asking all angels and others to spread the story of Narges Mohammadi. Angelina was recorded here in December 2023 at the Nobel Peace prize ceremony in Oslo Norway, performing this beautiful version of Unchained Melody. She paid tribute to Narges, who is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two twin children, who are 17, spoke on her behalf at this event. The more people who are aware and call for change, the more likely the leaders of Iran will set her free. Hey Paul, your reaction here is very well done and may I say it is not unexpected. Angelina's ability to connect with the heart and soul of the audience and convey emotions to the listener is unmatched, at least for non-classical vocal artists of our time. She evokes emotions even when she rearranges songs that aren't her own, that even the original artists probably didn't know were in it. And she has been doing this since her first TV appearance at the age of seven. As for tears and speechlessness - that's normal, because sometimes she hits you deeply and you never know when. It seems as if she is reviving memories of the past that were deeply buried and have now been restored with her performance. We have seen experienced reactors, even vocal coaches, who could not hold back tears during certain Angelina songs. Having said that, now I'm not sure it's a good idea to recommend "You Say" - think about whether you're strong enough to watch it. I have never been outside the US except for two years in Newfoundland, Canada (while I was serving in the US Navy.) If you are referring to the Vietnam War, I know we lost men in both Cambodia and Laos that were never accounted for. Our politicians screwed us royally in that war.
