Much as I think she has a great voice, I wouldn't put her in the top 3 from Norway even. It's purely a personal view but I think Maria Franz from Heilung, Katrine Stenbekk from Kalandra and Aurora all have better voices. Also there is Eivor from the Faroe Isles. All these 4 sing, play instruments and write their own material. So much talent from that part of the world.

The recipient for this year's award was Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian dissident, now in an Iranian prison for her outspoken messages and activism for women's rights. Narges' two twin children spoke on her behalf at this event prior to Angelina's singing. They are Angelina's age and haven't seen their mother in years. She was able to speak with both before her performance. I'm sure this performance was a very poignant moment for Angelina--one quarter Iranian herself, and whose grandmother Mery is full Iranian. The national orchestra of Norway, KORK, has done numerous concerts with their native daughter, the Nobel Peace Prize Tribute the most recent. I have learned more about Norway over the past two years, since discovering Angelina, than I knew over the past 80 years prior. A gorgeous country, much like their daughter. We are blessed that we are now graced with her residence. With Angelina, no matter how you filter what you see and hear, whether by talent, beauty, humanity, all of the above, this young lady is absolutely stunning in every way.

I love that term you used, “genre defying.” Very true! And it’s always about making the song as good as it can be, rather than showing off singing skills. And as with here, she I’ll also sing the same song very differently from one performance to the next, depending on the circumstances. This was a tender, gentle version befitting the occasion, while her performance from a couple of months before was more of a stemwinder, powerhouse version..

Angelina inspires me to do what I can to help make the world a better place, so I am asking angels and reactors to spread the story of Narges Mohammadi. Angelina was recorded here at the Nobel Peace prize tribute in Oslo Norway, elegantly honoring with song, the brave recipient, with peace and respect. She paid homage to Narges, who is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two twin children, who are 17, spoke on her behalf at this event. The more people who are aware, and call for change, the more hopeful that the leaders of Iran will set her free. Implementing acts of kindness to others is how Angelina always reminds us to live our lives. We ALL need to honor Angelina by following her lead. Yes, it had turned into a romantic love song over the years (since Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Bros sang it). But it is about a love separated and is a sad song. She sang this directly to the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize Award, Narges Mohammadi who has been imprisoned in an Iranian prison and separated from her family, twins (a boy and a girl) and her husband because of her stand for women's rights and the oppression of women in general for many years. At one point the Iranian officials considered releasing her but had one condition, that she would stop talking about all the women issues she cared about. Narges met with her family (the twins are in their teen years now living in France) and told them how much she missed them, loved them, and would want her family to be reunited, BUT, she told her family she could never agree to the condition because she had devoted her life to hoping change would occur and so she remains in prison. This was a spectacular performance by Angelina and what's so remarkable when we listen to her is that we know she is genuinely a kind, caring and loving human being and when you combine it with a voice for the ages, well, she is someone very special. only Angelina...

The ability this girl has to captivate and move the people who listen to her is absolutely incredible, as is her sensitivity in choosing and interpreting the song for this ceremony. This performance of hers is charming and wonderfully intimate, she made this legendary song perfectly suited for the occasion of the tribute to Narges Mohammadi's story! I was moved to see and hear Angelina singing in such an incredibly mature and charming way 7 years after the last time and in the same studio and certainly also with some of the musicians who accompanied her as a child, when she took her first steps towards his musical future. Very nice reaction The version of the song that you are probably most familiar with is the 1965 Righteous Brothers version however the song is originally from the 1955 prison film Unchained. I’m sure others will fill you in on the backstory of this event and how the choice of song was appropriate for the occasion.
