ANEMONES IN THE REEF TANK | Selecting, Keeping, Care, and Hosting

Keeping anemones in the reef tank | Selecting, Keeping, and Hosting
This video is for those Beginner and Intermediate Reef Keepers
Selecting and keeping an anemone can be hard if you don't know which direction to go, and if you aren't sure if you can keep one healthy or care for it properly, it gets even more difficult. This video gives you tips on choosing the right anemone for your reef tank, and details how to care for it, and keep them alive and thriving. additionally in "Keeping anemones in the reef tank | Selecting, Keeping, and Hosting" I also discuss hosting for clownfish and what to expect. there are dangers with keeping anemones in a reef tank, that you may want to be aware of and this video shares those dangers as well..
Ive had anemones for about 7 years and have mainly kept and cared for the rose bubble tip anemones and the Sebae anemones. I love the way they move in the tank and provide a real pop of color!

I have an anemone aquarium. Three years ago I put in a rose bubbletip, a rainbow bubbletip, a Haddoni and a Magnifica. Now I have twelve anemones, and my pair of tomato clowns bicker over which anemone to host, because my male sleeps in the rainbow bubbletip and the female sleeps in the rose bubbletip, but during the day they share the Magnifica. I'd recommend that you either have an anemone tank or a reef tank, and I'd go for the anemone tank every time.

Always love your videos, great info and keep up the good work! I would like to add something about “hosting” if I could. It’s a little technical but we reefers use that term a lot. As a matter of fact nor the anemone host the clown neither the opposite. They have a mutual symbiosis (both benefit). “Hosting” in biology is a term reserved to parasitic symbiotic relations, and that’s not the case...

Always thought of the "hosting" term as a way someone would host a guest in their house so the anemone hosts the clowns hehe. I do realize now though that it does sound all wrong if taken in the biological sense.

i bought a rainbow bta and when i got it, it’s foot was attached to the plate of a frag plug. i placed it right on a slanted rock and has many holes for its foot. i left it overnight with no flow and a week later, it’s close to the same spot i placed it except it walked off of the plate and put its foot into a hole less then an inch away. i guess it was the 1 out of 10% 😂

I personally, and this is my opinion and advise to new comers in the hobby, carpet anemone’s are far easier to keep than bubble tips, riteeri or alike, they create problems, move around and don’t introduce well to an aquarium without constant intervention and treating with antibiotics, my ratio of carpet anemones doing well versus any other type is way way higher
