    Every move starts with the proper grip or connection. Both gi or nogi, both with hands or feet. What I noticed was that grip fighting is just mentally exhausting, but if you win that battle and then get your own grips, you most likely will dominate.

    I have to admit, me having learned Hapkido at a young age really helped me with grip fighting a lot. Hapkido has a lot of wrist/hand locks, breaks, and escapes which is honestly unrealistic but the mechanics of them really works in jujutsu.

    Imo how to tap is extremely important. The standard double-tap, the frustrated hard hand tap hit, the foot double/triple tap, and the verbal tap tap tap.

    This was fucking awesome. More of this please. I'm still fairly new but I keep going back to grip fighting concepts because they're so damn important. I feel like they're not talked about enough. I was definitely fucking up on not keeping tension in the gi. I'm good on preventing the grip or breaking it as they grab but am having a hard time with my coaches when they really get the grip sunk in because of that very important detail. Thanks man!!

    How is shit like this not the very first thing white belts are taught? I've been training for nearly two years, and have been to endless classes about x guard sweeps, reverse delariva, etc, but rarely do we focus on simple but very important shit like how to get out of side control and breaking grips
