Andres Serrano is an american artist best known for his controversial pictures of corpses or objects in body fluids and for his colorful portraits of people from the church, cuba or homeless. He presents The Robots at Galerie Nathalie Obadia ‪@nathalieobadia9832‬ from November 7th to December 23rd.
Serrano qualifies his early work as Tableau Photography as he made staged pictures that looked like paintings. Going further in that path he started to make abstract photography using body fluids like piss or blood, then to immerse objects in those fluids. In the Immersions series, Piss Christ both launched his career and made Andres Serrano one of the most controversial artists of his time.
After the Piss Christ scandal the artist focused on portraiture, taking Edward Curtis as a model. For different series such as Nomads, The Klan or America he uses colorful and saturated backdrops and the flash of the camera.
Specializing in staged or studio photography, for some of his latest series The Game : All Things Trump or Infamous, Andres Serrano collects numerous objects that he gathers from eBay or auction houses to make installations.
During the last years, the Metaverse and specifically Crypto Art and the series of Crypto Punks or Bored Apes inspired him for The Robots exhibition. He collected more than 150 Robots to make portraits of them as if they were alive.
