FROM THE VAULT: Back in January 2018, we caught up with Olympic medalist Andre De Grasse and 2017 IAAF Diamond League champion Chijindu Ujah to watch them tackle a high-quality sprint workout at ALTIS in Phoenix, Arizona, honing in their form for the 2018 season.
THE WARM-UP
Jogging
30m mobility drills
20m sprint drills
Dynamic stretching
Strides
THE WORKOUT
2 sets of 2 reps of 90m wicket runs
(~60m of wickets into ~30m of open sprinting)
5 min. recovery between reps; 8 min. recovery between sets

    Sounds like exactly every single technique in the world. You can trip trying to sit on your couch when you're fatigued (both mentally and physically)

    It’s not, that’s why you overemphasize in training so when the real thing comes, you’re breakdown (or fatigue) can still be efficient technique enough to get you to the line.

    De Grasse's PBs are 9.91/19.8. Post injury, his competition is simply faster than he, running 9.7s/19.5. Yet he never improved his start, thereby giving up an easy way to better his PBs.

    They didn't say, but did mention that it increased throughout the drill. You can probably google and find some recommendations for setting up a similar drill.

    KiLLED5639 how is 45:1 a workable ratio for athlete to coach individual attention? These athletes aren’t a team, no one is here to sacrifice their development for the greater good or team dynamics. So again, how is 45:1 workable? There was a female athlete who looked a mess going over the wickets, but who cares, UJah and DeGrasse get the attention.

    I wish someone properly coached running/sprinting in my town when I was growing up. The only physical activity I was good at (and liked). Besides beating the fuck out of people that is, but for some reason 100m was almost as satisfying xD
