Funnily, this is address in homeworld mobile. Don't know if it will be canon but in the game, the remnants taiidans that decides to stay on higara integrated themselves into the new higaran government, this obviously caused issues with the new rulers.....since.....the burning of karak was still very fresh in their minds. The remnants taiidan is called kithless, since they are not part of any kith class.

Certainly a lot of the Taiidan remnant industrial base was integrated into Hiigaran use, and where Taiidani designs were found to be better for some reason or another, they were integrated with a little bit of visual kick to keep them vaguely Hiigaran.

the vagyr and original hiigaran fleet looked amazing. imo the taiidan are very pedestrian looking they're essentially f-18s in space. i didn't like that they went back to winged designs. it makes no sense for small fighters to make planetfall. they should dock on large ships. making ships that small be both atmosphere and zero g capable isn't logical

Cataclysm followed a mining Kiith, that had to do with secondary and even tertiary designs to do anything (plus industrial scale amounts of elbow grease to me make anything work). They could not purchase or get access to the latest designs of the Kuushan (Hiigaaran) navy vessels, (much like in our real world Latin America cannot purchase or build the latest American carriers), so they made due with whatever they could scrounge from other races and built something that worked, but could never be considered cohesive. It is how many armies and anvies operate in our real world, they purchase from various vendors what they can afford and think they can obtain, but rarely if ever have a unified supplier, like the US, Russia or China.

The big yellow color of the industrial ships have always been one of my favorite style. You can tell it's not a combat ship, not just because of its color, but also it's shape and size. The large complex, the immense storage for resources and cargo, the mini hangers for drones or small crafts. Simply the word 'Utility' vessel gets my grin on. I wouldn't mind commanding or piloting one of those. Being the workhorse or backbone of the large industrial process makes you feel like a cog in a giant machine. I love it.

Some? The Mission with the Hyper gate had that sphere of Ion Frigates, and I stole ALL OF THEM! I then had to reload my almost-finished save because there were too many Frigates to fit on the right side of the map to Jump, and had to recycle four of them so the game could continue. Final battle was my Ball Of Ion Death steadily advancing towards the Emperor's Mothership, with two Assault Frigates and 4-5 Repair Frigates supporting it. Enemy fighters couldn't dodge around all of the beams, enemy Destroyers vanished, the enemy Cruiser supported by four Repair Frigates melted, and by the time I was alerted to the enemy Mothership being engaged it was already destroyed.

I remember back in 1999 I was at my local book store buying any new Star Trek or Star Wars books and maybe a few Starlog, Fangoria, Omni or other magazines; when I saw a box with a spaceship on the cover. I had a few PC games and decided to try out this "Homeworld" and see what it was like. It was only $20 so if it was bad, there was no great loss of money. I stayed awake all night playing that game and replayed it almost every day for a month. The Homeworld series is my favorite game series of all time. When the remastered edition was announced, I was quick to grab a copy which included a model of the Mothership. I would love to see more videos of ships and lore on Homeworld here.

My take on it is, the longer-range forward-facing firepower helps it stay in formation with other long range capital-killing frigates. In past games, i remember my Flak Frigates being so short ranged that they always flew ahead of the fleet during attack & then got destroyed first.

The suppression frigate's fixed-forward anti-strike-craft guns are such an interesting game design choice. It means that positioning and formations will have a drastic influence on their effectiveness, since they need to maintain distance in order to keep their guns trained on their fast-moving targets. For example, you would want a formation of them to spread out a lot, so that each one will be within the effective range of the others.

So amazing. HW 1 and 2 is the game I played with my brother when we were in our early teens. No one else I know, played this game. Sadly my brother is not here anymore 😢. He passed away unexpectedly 3 yrs ago. But for him I am going to play the shit out of this game! Can’t wait to play. Probably tears will make the keyboards wet when the first cut-scene starts.

Looking at those designs really makes me want a homeworld mod for hard space shipbreakers

I've loved this game from the original on. I bought the collectors edition for HW2 that came with the Pride of Hiigara statue and I've ordered the same for 3. I can't wait to see the new fleet and take my place of the command deck of the latest mothership.

First time I saw these was on the space engineers steam workshop and I thought they were amazing seeing where there from and how they look with out the blocky constraints is brilliant

Something interesting to note, the new Hiigaaran ships, look very much like the Taaidani ships from the first game. To me suggests that the Hiigaarans have absorbed the Taaidani republic into their empire and have taken on a lot of their ship design practices.

I've always thought the bold colors of a lot of Homeworld ships, often covered in aggressive stripes and checkerboards, is likely an homage to the art of Chris Foss. He was a British artist who did a lot of work for sci-fi anthology magazines and novel covers, especially in the 70s and 80s, including stuff as prestigious as the paperback versions of Asimov's Foundation trilogy. It's a very cool look that I wish we'd see in more scifi these days. Between thermals/radar/lidar and whatever other sensor technology is yet to be developed it would be incredibly difficult to actually sneak up on your enemies in space, so why not make your ship a big red middle finger pointed right at them?

I hope my clan is still around at this point in Hiigarian history. Been giddy about it since my family name was on one of the helmets in the "Expedition Guide" for Deserts of Kharak.
