On the way back home from Indianapolis, Holly and I stopped in Attica for the Fountain/Warren County siren test, which has a recently changed schedule. Through some digging on Facebook, I found out that Attica’s siren system uses wail signal for tornado warnings and tests and hi-lo signal for fire calls, and there was a video floating around of a Whelen siren in the area doing hi-lo signal. We arrived not knowing what to expect or if the siren would even go off at all, but we were EXTREMELY surprised to hear the quick windup that made it evident this unit was analog. This siren was very loud and healthy! After the test we ventured down to the “Model 2” in Attica, which turned out to be a Hornet, confirming that was the siren that went off in hi-lo in that one Facebook video. I will definitely be back here this summer to nab a recording of the Hornet. Enjoy!
