How odd... This Whelen is running on a Federal Signal UV, and is sounding hi-lo and alternate wail. It's rare for a MOD/DSA to be running these signals, so seeing a Whelen do them is even more rare.

Love it a whelen that sounds like a modulator

When it's on low in the Hi-Low tone, it sounds like a modulator 5020, and on it's high stage, it sounds like one of those higher pitched modulators.

okay, thank you so much, I love the alternate wail tone but I don't like how high pitched it is, since whelens are more powerful than modulators does the higher pitch travel father?the largest modulator model available now is the 8032 and its 70db range is about 4200ft and in the modulator booklet it says that that is it effective range,and a whelen vortex's 70db range is about 5200ft but that is with a whelen tone,and id love to hear alternate and pulsed wail in a whelen 440htz and 560htz tone

I love how vortex sounds like a modulator or eows 612

I think it's cool how those whelen vortex finbacks look

Awesome! I think first UV Whelen Hilo on YT and For sure the first Whelen UV Alternate wail! Almost sounds like an EOWS Except it does not go all the way down in Alternate wail

if the city can afford it, they'll keep on using the same tones until the drivers blow and replace them (repeat cycle as many times as necessary)

Like I said before in the other comments it is stupid to put in UV controller in a siren that's designed for low pitch tones this is too high in fact if it was very very high or make this high-pitched that's not good for your ears they be blown out in 5 hours or less

OH MY GOSH! I LIVE NEAR THIS SIREN!! It only does a short alert now for about 45 seconds. I recorded the ambience from my house but I don't post them on KZread.

That’s the most eows 612 thing I have ever seen

One of the only times that I've ever liked to see an UltraVoice controller on a non-Federal Signal siren. I'm in love with the way how this sounds in those signals. When is this siren tested and where is it located?

Welp, did Federal manufacture this siren, or does it have the same sound cards and as a 612 and Modulator? It has the sound of a Mod, but when the horn faces the camera, you can hear the whelen difference.

The "head" was made by Whelen. It's using a Federal Signal controller box.

It has UltraVoice controls.

Some reasons why communities might choose a third party product (the UV in this case) might be because they want a two-way radio system for feedback, original controls might have gone down the crapper, activation problems, or because it is probably the cheapest and most affordable upgrade kit for a tad quality. As far as voice goes for Vortexes, I've been asking that question to myself lately. I'm going to take a guess and say yes, but don't quote me on that.

Ik I'm 8 years later, but Vortexes on a regular Whelen Controller cannot do voice. But since this is a UV, it's a Vortex 4004 conversion lol

i never seen whelen use uv controller before

I literally just go into watching sirens today, so I'm a total amateur. But I'm hooked already! Why doesn't it spin all the way around? Also, can anyone tell me where to start learning about all the different kinds and stuff? Thanks!

This siren doesn’t have collector rings which helps the siren rotate all the way, so it isolates back and forth to prevent the wires from getting tangled up and snap.

FOR ANYONE WHO IS NEW TO THE COMMUNITY AND STUMBLES UPON THIS COMMENT: Older rotational Whelens(I'm talking about the 2000R like models) had conduction rings(my term). Newer Whelen Rotational models don't have that, instead they're hardwired. They use an oscillator. What this does is that it helps the siren not get the wires tangled up, and it stops in a specific position and switches direction. Like I said, this is for anyone new to the community.

A question to mitch. Since it has an untravoice/siratone voice card, can It do UV or Siratone westminster chimes?

It can do UV Chimes because it has an Ultravoice controller like a modulator. It can also do the UV steady, wail, pulsed steady and pulse wail signals. It is also technically voice capable.

@@Simplex2 np. Also, on case you missed it, the sirens don't have interchangeable sound cards in them. You have to actually swap out the entire control box on the siren. Why they chose a federal signal controller for this one is beyond me.
