Analog Delay Inside a Powered Mixer - The Vintage Yamaha EMX 150 - Audio Gear Finds

I acquired this mixer as a throw in with a bass amp I purchased.... it was heavy and bulky and the previous owner just didn't want it anymore. It was in incredible shape for it's age and I always repurpose things, so I figured I'd take if off their hands. I wasn't expecting it to have such a good analog delay built inside!
This video is just me having a bit of fun, playing a little jam I created on my iPad into the mixer with hard pans on the sounds. That way my hands were free to play with the delay and eqs a bit.
I hope you enjoy it! If so please like and subscribe.... I am always playing with old gear and checking out whatever weird things I can get my hands on.

The Echo circuit (easliy removeable) uses genuine early 1980s (83-84) Matsushita MN3101\MN3005 ICs. And the NE570N as well. I have removed 2 IC sets from the EMX boards and build BOSS DM-2 clones. Rewire the board so it still works and you can use the DM-2 externally. More importantly you have a very rare BOSS pedal (1st edition 1981) before they switched to the MN3102\3205. The 3 ICXs that make up the DM-2 circuit is worth more than the whole mixer ($35 CAD, another I paid $50 CAD). lol

This is really cool!!! I just got one for free today. A church that my Dad goes to threw it away in the church dumpster because it was old. It came with a really heavy duty case too. Do you have any idea when this was made? I was thinking mid 80's?? I don't know but I've been trying to figure it out. I dug up the manual online in PDF format but there was no date on the manual.

My first guess would be the 80s too, I’m not too sure though. Maybe even late 70s? It’s really not a bad sounding board at all!

Im thinking of buying a emx200 so I can wire my synths and drum machine to get a more gluey analog sound. Is it worth it considering someone is selling for 300 euros?

I think it’s a really cool sounding board. See if you can talk em down a little bit though :)

Someone is selling Yamaha Emx2300 here 12 channel mint for 150€. It looks almost identical to yours. Do you think its same? I love old mixers. Are those effects digital?. EDIT: Just looked better yours have 2 more knobs per channel not the same :(

All analog my friend, and I am not sure how similar they are honestly. But if it’s from the same time period might be the same mic preamps

Is it super noisy or nah? Can’t stand my mackie for the noise and garbage color (I don’t have the OG 1604)

I would say most electronics from this era have a little noise in their signal chains with older caps etc but it wasn’t particularly bad. It was a nice bit of color to the sound that I enjoyed
