This is a well done studio tour. Not only did you show all the gear, but you also demonstrated it with some unique sounds. Can't wait to see what you do with the 464. ✌️😎

Looks vibey. Perfect is imperfect, and imperfect is perfect. Showing that perfect and imperfect are just illusions. It's what you make it. Those pring reverbs sounds great and twangy. I just have a humble Vermona VSR3. But it's going back to my mixer and gets some tone control to help it a bit. I want an open tank at some point. Have had a Knaz Ekdahl Moisturizer a couple times. But it's overdriving a little to easy for my taste and I want the filter modulation before the reverb, not after :)

@@MadeOnTape absolutely! Though I do like to try out stuff to learn if I really need/want it 😅 I'm not handy either. Benidub makes a preamp for spring tanks, but it's significantly more expensive than the spring tank itself. But it also has filter and other stuff. Don't know if any company makes a more simple one for less money though 🤔

I tried the 688 for the EQ's and sent them out via the AUX sends into my Audient ID14. Also the Audient went "speakers out" into the 688 but routed different as I have the DUAL and the Two Aux's. I had the system go out into my BBE, and even the pc into the 688 into the BBE then to my Monitors...it was way better. But the BBE has a noisy pot I gotta service...🤔 But my hunch was right The sounds from the analogue board, the EQs the analogue "gain" the fact I can EQ on the board and Insert a compressor, is so much better when I Aux send them out to the Audient and then into my Daw I really agree with Gregory Scott's take on that at KUSH, he encouraged me to get the 688 out. And have the 688 being serviced finally heads cleaned demagnetized capstan dust taken apart a slider fixed. Ideally I will run hybrid, via 688 tracks out via AUX into my ID14 into my DAW and likely use KUSH in the Daw, and that will be Kush Omegas on Group Busses for Drums Guitars Vocals. I'll use a really mild Comp on the Master in the Daw. I have yet to TAPE and send AUX outs into the DAW and not typically a Compressor or Reverb. Anyway when it comes back I will use the Tape as well. Finally I decided today the cheapest way for me is to go the Audient 800 later and I can Mix and Match Both and I can tout via the 688 DUAL MIDI mixer, the two Aux. When it comes back I will try various options. This is the kind of short answer...and I don't know if it is clear. Should be soon I plan to film it. But in summary I can go many different ways. I'm thinking...about a Patch Bay , so I can chop and change at will to check sound options. I better stop great video as usual and great to see you again.

thanks for sharing Harris! always experimenting with that "perfect" set up. We need a patch bay, too. That makes things much easier once it's set up, but setting it up can be annoying 😂

@@MadeOnTape So true...once I get the 688 and BBE back I'm starting shooting for a channel...a mish mash Guitar and Keyboard lessons Beat writing various methods, and hybrid recording set ups. I think my post was maybe unclear I have so many options. But most would "get it" who sub this channel. I rout everything via the 688 midi screen. Next time when it is back I'll set it up for aux sends out to the Audient or the Dual section. It's a can of awesome worms. This was meant to be a sentence. But yeah a Patch bay and I can instantly go any way I want in seconds, while having the Two spare headphones jacks in the 688. That's my goal Mics Guitars Basses into 688 then to Daw! Truly a brilliant video for me especially. And the Volante is my "last Pedal" for my Pedal Board. I have a Strymon Riverside fully hooked up to an EV5 expression pedal and a boost switch. I must stop typing, when it's done I'll send you some stuff or some video!! great to see you are back and why!! Man that Volante section just cost me some savings...I have to get it next month!!😀😕😥🤣😎

I have a tascam 234 which has limited mixing capabilities, and wanted to get a mixer for it. I was in a guitar center, and they had a yamaha EM-80 mixer for 80 bucks. I bought it and the extended warranty plan for something like 15. In a year it had some issues and I was able to get it fixed under the plan. It's similar to the one you have, incredible spring reverb, highly dimensional mixes, if that makes sense. If you haven't tried yet, bypass the mixer on your portastudio and run it through the Yamaha mixer. People love to criticize GC, but I've found lots of great vintage gear there on the cheap. Video idea: Using MIDI, sequencers, CV/Gate punching in, etc... to increase the number of instruments on a 4 track cassette without bouncing. Could be as simple as playing bass along with a drum machine on the same track, or a complicated midi arrangement.

Very cool!! This set up is awesome to us younger guys but when you show analog set ups to old school engineers they just think it's funny while they are all working on they're new top of the line digital equipment. Most don't want to go back to that old analog stuff.. too much work!

Going into 2023, I'll have a pure analog setup. A Moog Matriarch and Eurorack modular system for synths and effects (delay from the Matriarch and chorus and spring reverb in the Eurorack), along with a collection of analog synths, Elektron Analog Rytm and Simmons SDSV for drums, Yamaha MT4X for tracking, and Tascam 122 for mastering. Since the 122 is a three-head machine, the replay head's output will be used to archive the newly recorded tape on a computer, but the sound will be analog from when it sounds to when it's laid down on the master, no ones or zeroes touching it anywhere in the process. Of course I have plenty of digital instruments / effects, but for my pure analog project, they'll be set aside.

@@MadeOnTape Since spending time on the MT4X, I'm loving the analog workflow and don't want to go back to the DAW. I have found a Fostex A8 as the next step up from cassette, I'll be picking it up early in the new year, but even 7" reels of 1/4" tape are far more expensive than cassettes, so I'll save it for if I want fuller arrangements (stereo drum tracks and panned instruments).
