An Autistic Wife with Down Syndrome and Her Husband
Charlotte is an autistic person who has Down syndrome. Her husband, Riley, is also autistic. The two plan to one day have a child. They are currently in college so that they can provide their future children with a safe and stable home. Charlotte and Riley describe love as "a feeling of connection even when you are not together, you just feel it in your heart".

Indeed, what a sweet point. Yes, because they're not trying so hard to abstract its purpose and what such a dynamic does to their overall emotions. They mentally are better off in that way, to not have such a need to mindlessly abstract and make a song and dance about marriage and relationship as if it requires some artistic or poetic interpretation or overachieving, Olympian nature. This is why this channel is so great, it showcases how beautiful, curious, and/or livable life can be with varying perspectives of how it works.

Absolutely! As a parent, it’s our responsibility to ensure we give our children the tools they need to survive and cope in a world regardless of any disability they have. My eldest is autistic and although not diagnosed, hardly anyone would know he is on the spectrum because we’ve taught him how to speak to strangers, how to hold a conversation, what people expect in social situations, and he can cope now. He used to get so anxious but that is now just a memory for him, not his actuality now. It’s all about highlighting their strengths and giving them tools to cope with the areas they are weaker in. I love these guys because they compliment each other so well!

@harmony6643
Жыл бұрын
@@hannahwitts1339 Because a lot of times it can help people, especially with autism, to have very specificly phrased questions or else it can cause confusion or overload be ause many autistic people tend to think about things very much in detail and deeply and thoroughly. For example: A teacher at school sets the assignment "imagine you're on a holiday and write a card home". A neurotypical person might just write some shallow things and use some typical postcard phrases in them without much meaning, a neurodivergent person might be irritated by that task because, of course, what you write in a postcard and how you phrase it depends on who exactly at home you are writing to (grandparent, parent, young sibling, best friend, etc.) and also where you are on your vacation (snow, sea, woods, mountains, city) and how long you are staying there (just for a weekend, a week, several weeks) and for what purpose you came there (have an adventure, relax, meet with a friend who loves away, etc.). Another example: Someone asking "what colour is an elephant" would typically get the response "grey" from a neurotypical person because grey is what elephants are usually portrayed as. An autistic person, however, might think about an elephant in india vs. in africa (where they have different shades of skin colour) or about an elephant covered in mud or even their blue toy elephant and might be confused whether to answer "grey" or "brownish" or "blue" or whatever. Giving specific instructions (i. e. asking "what colour does an elephant have who was born in india and has clean skin) can clear up these multiple options and make it easier to not have misunderstandings when communicating.
Riley’s definition of love is so perfect! “It means being connected; it’s something you don’t just see, you feel from the heart” What a genuinely beautiful couple 🥰
These two seem to have a better sense of love and caring a lot better than others without disabilities
That's so wonderful that there is place on Earth where people with disabilities and medical conditions can live in happiness and safety, without oppression, persecution, humiliations from the side of agressive toxic society.
I love how Riley had a smile plastered on his face the entire time. Both of them being so happy was quite contagious to watch.

Nah I can see it. He's pretty awkward and anxious which is normal. Being on camera probably makes him more anxious. Also it's edited. I feel like he talked about the lighthouses a lot but they edited it lol. That's just my guess but I really wanted to hear about the lighthouses. Riley looks genuinely happy and the line " I have a good life, I didn't always ,but I do now." really hit. The guy plays 6 instruments! And I love how simple his interests are, I love making pasta too, man, so good hobby to have! Charlotte seems like a sweetheart too. What a nice couple.

YES...a twinkle in their eye... It is an enormous amount of contentment and assurance that the other one is there even if they are NOT in the same place...a quiet joy...very serene and calm... My 21 year old son is high functioning autistic. He has the most beautiful relationship with his girl friend, who is fully able bodied and a graduate of an Ivy League college. She loves everything about him and vice versa. I strongly believe when we are able to see the beauty in our children’s differences, others will as well. 🫶🏻
My girlfriend and I are both disabled. She’s a stroke survivor with aphasia and an auditory processing issue with oral speech, and I have PTSD, HPPD, anxiety, chronic depression and suspected adhd/autism. Our issues are very different but often that’s what makes us good for one another. I mention this because I think a lot of people think life is over with a disability, it’s not.
