I've been thinking about getting into coding. As someone who's mostly worked in physical labor industries I'm getting tired of working in harsh environments and constantly damaging my body. Coding doesn't seem nearly as bad to work in.

@@kennygunderman man the amount of time you spend learning and fix bugs and keep your self updated, meanwhile a lot of other jobs have much more free time to enjoy their life, nevermind the hard truth about juniors and how they get rejected at the beginning

@@hosamgnaba3205 I work in healthcare. I can promise it’s on the complete opposite side of the fucking spectrum. We’re burnt out. Everyone is. Our burnout looks completely different. I’m not saying worse but way different. Your job is not labor intensive. You do not have to show up ON TIME EVERY-TIME. You have a much better quality of life when it comes to a lot of things. I can’t even drink water at the nursing station. It’s hell. And it’s getting worse

@@hosamgnaba3205 compared to trucking I would say this is more easier. My brother does trucking and he works 100+ hours in a week and only take 3 days off in one month, he has salary around 80k-130k on the good year. And with software engineering you get 2 days off every week and only work around 50hours but make 100k-200k for entry level.

Thank you for being honest about our field. In addition to being told the job is so glamourous, a lot of young people being misled in other ways! They don't understand how much hard work is involved in learning to code in the first place and are being told by people who got in back when software devs were very rare and in very high demand regardless of experience that it's so easy to get a job, even self-taught. But CS grads were much more rare back then and companies were much more willing to invest in a newbie dev and train them. Now, they often will not. Now it's pretty damn competitive at the entry-level and most places are looking for mid to senior level

It’s accurate for a lot of places. I think it’s also worth pointing out not everywhere is this mundane. I feel sorry for people having to work in sprints like this. Once your org matures into lean, and you switch to customer needs (instead of coding pre solutionised problems) and use kanban, weighted shortest job first, trunk based dev, ci/cd and pair programming. The daily grind is a lot more interesting and fun. You move faster and more iteratively with a lot less waste. So much time is wasted in Scrum / Scrummerfall ceremonies and cargo culting rituals it get’s you down eventually. Anyhow, great video!

lol when i first got my first software dev job a year and a half ago. i got to be remote for 6 months and i loved it. then the boss forced me to go into the office so i would learn from senior staff. i was the only one in the office, all the senior staff refused to come in and the boss couldnt do anything since they would walk out and replacing the talent would be more expensive. i went into the office just to be in zoom meetings from the office. then i stopped going myself and the boss got furious. I nolonger work there

At my work your allowed to get in from 07:30 till 09:30, and work your amount of hours, it’s great!

Hit the nail on the head, 100%! Only thing you forgot is the unfortunate push of cult-ee books and lectures in the name of "company culture."

What most of these videos don't talk about is the pace of the work. Are you absolutely grinding all day? Are you rushing to get things done, or is it relaxed?

Interesting question. It’s a mix of both. Some days are more relaxed than others, and some days you’ll have to grind all day.

For my company, the stand up meeting is every morning, first thing. 15-30 minutes. Then there is 1 1/2 hour meeting where the whole company gives an update of each department, which is once a week. Next is the actual planning of the sprint, twice a week, 1-2 hours each. Some companies do 2-3 hours each. Lastly, a meeting reviewing the release, 30-60 minutes, once every other week. Those are the standard, mandatory meetings. I personally do not talk in any of them, except when I give my update on what I am working on or answering direct questions. Most engineers don't say much.

@@jeremiahweaver4677 At the company I work at, there are software engineer contractors who work multiple projects, so it can be done. Though I dont know the amount of hours they dedicate for each project per week. I personally don't think I could handle two gigs, but everyone is different.

I have a question I have social media project and Im so confused about which stacks I need to use Im single person who will do this project I dont have any team to do it so Im single this because I dont want to learn native languages kotlin and swift and html js css and I researched and found two good things these are flutter and native I downlad flutter and prepared the properly everything is fine and but I still wonder am I doing wrong something cuz I searched stackshares about companies and %95 they are using native etc.. and I found this video which language I need to go on way with it and I was convinced about firebase against to amazon aws idk both are good and safe about data center but firebase costs a bit more compare to aws but firebase is have good interface and easy to use can u help me with answer to all my questions thank for this video I subscribed 🙏

A day in the life is 1/4 day of meetings, 1/4 day of real programming, and 1/2 day of figuring out which config setting is jacked up Also, I love tech debt. If I could refactor 100% of my day I'd be happy.

Yes. I went to Coding Dojo's full stack software engineer program in Python, MERN and Java. Got hired as a UAT Specialist (alternative name for QA), and company will transition me over to Junior Software Engineer by beginning of 2023. The other UAT/QA girl working there had no tech experience prior to be hired. She initially was hired as Tier 1 Support, got promoted to Tier 2, and now is UAT/QA.
