Amplitube 5 Demo & Review! (4 Rockin' Presets!)

Thanks for watching my review and demo of IK Multimedia's Amplitube 5 MAX (and also the Mesa Boogie 2 collection which is not included in the MAX bundle), a comprehensive guitar amp and effects suite! Let me know in the comments what your thoughts are on this plugin and the presets I made. How did they sound to you?
The opinions in all my videos are 100% my own. IK Multimedia provided me with the licenses but this is not a paid review other than that.

    The amp sims in Amplitube don't have enough gain and need an EQ pedal in front of them to sound good. Even then they have total lack of top end beyond 10khz. I don't have any of these problems with Helix Native.

    The best part is its built in speaker sim IMO. They used a robot rig to capture thousands upon thousands of mic positions that can be infinitely moved and blended. I've been using it with my real amps/load boxes and even before tweaking I'm happier with the results than the standalone commercial IR's I've tried.

    The SVX-VR from the SVX 2 expansion is really cool. It's a bass amp, but if you run your guitar through it and dime most of the knobs, it provides a unique distortion that makes the amp sound like it's breaking. In a good way.

    Nice vid! I love when elitists mock Amplitube, so I am glad you showed it just isn't true. These people can't tell me that Amplitube 5 wasn't a huge improvement for Amplitube and certainly (to my ears) sounds the best out of the mainstream "all the tones" bundles. Sure, Neural's stuff sounds just a hair better to me, but it's also $100+ for one amp and a few effects for each plugin. That being said, I would rather have one fantastic tone than a ton of half baked ones.

    It has been nice for quite a few years. The problem it has it keeps its older models around, without upgrading the sound / tech of it. So you have the exact same modeling in Amplitube5 on most of the basic models, but the named models or the MESA pack for instance use way newer modeling approaches / tech. And yes , that can make quite a different. So I always have said that Amplitube didn't deserve the mocking, and great sounds can be had from it (but that's also true for older bean-pods ...). Comparing the roar of AmpCraft's 5150-style amp to Amplitube's quite recent SJ50 did make Amplitube sound quite a bit off, though. A low-mid growl that is there in the Helix Panama, Revalver 4's 6505 or AmpCraft, but not in the SJ50. Doesn't mean anything for the older models, and still does not make the model sound bad at all... For a 5150 style amp, I just prefer different models I noticed.

    I have an AxeFx III Turbo...FM3....a Mesa Mark IV.....Friedman WW20....Strymon pedals..."quality" reactive load boxes, etc. and before all this owned a TON of amps from Lazy Js to Tone Kings, Fargens, Splawns...to me, I can make all of it sound great and sound aweful. I'm having a lot of fun with Ampltube 5 Max. Using the AxeIO and a pair of Adam A7X. In a mix (and frankly, even isolated), I don't think my most high end is ORDERS of magnitude better. For the price (and perhaps regardless), I'm considering selling off a bunch of stuff for my home use needs.....

    I don’t think people should sleep on Amplitube anymore… their Mark IIC+ is one of the best Mark sims I’ve ever tried, next to Reaxis (agreed that the gain is a little too low though and needs a little input boost). It’s killer and so satisfying to play. The Mark V is pretty spot on too, though smoother and less saturated which is actually pretty faithful to the real amp, which I’ve owned for years. IK hit a home run with Mesa Boogie 2.

  • @Tiger1016.

    Intriguing to hear. I am a recovered Mark amp addict feeling the itch for them again. Out of curiosity, can you comment on if the Mark IV and III sims live in the same realm of praise as your comments on the V and IIC+. I have owned the latter options over the years but deduced I would have preferred the former ones in hindsight. However, the IIC+ and V come from the newer package release and seemingly updated technology while the IV and III are older and not as updated.

  • @simonr344

    @simonr344

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Tiger1016. I don't really use the III, but the IV is really good too - they're all similar but just have different voicings (as with the real amps). IIC+ & V are definitely the best two though. As I mentioned one frustration with the newer models is they seem a little low on the gain, you have to turn up the input gain in Amplitube by about 6 to 10db in order to get the taper of the gain knob correct to the real amps. The IV doesn't have that.

    If you want to be able to benefit from the cabinet section in Amplitube, you want an FRFR speaker, like what you would connect to a modeler like the AxeFX or Kemper. Like other people have suggested though, you can also disable the cabinet section and go directly into a power amp/cabinet combination, like plugging into the FX return of a regular amp or by using a dedicated power amp like a Seymour Duncan PowerStage.
