Amity & Liliana - Seeking a cure for DIPG

DIPG is the most aggressive, most difficult to treat cancer. It's an absolutely devastating disease and unfortunately there is currently no effective therapy.
However, the Children's Cancer Institute recently organised a protocol where parents may donate a child's tumour after they have passed. For the first time, scientists were able to actually grow these cells in the lab, and have had the opportunity to screen thousands of drugs. Although the majority of these were ineffective, several lead compounds are showing promise in laboratory experiments and others are involved in clinical trials.

I lost my daughter six weeks into her cancer journey. She was my middle child and the only child I had to make it to 8 years old. My other two were stillborn due to a doctors malpractice. Our kids deserve more than 4.

I just lost my niece November 10 2023 at 11:54pm to this disease. And it was traumatic. Ahe was surrounded by family who loved her dearly . Rest in peace Skylar. And god bless any child who has to go through this. There absolutely need to have more funding for this disease. More research needs to be done. These are children 😢

@@mcmlxii4419 it's still less traumatic, because it's normal. almost everyone will at some point lose their parents, and hopefully when they're old and lived a full life. that doesn't make it easy to deal with, but it's not comparable to losing a child that you thought would outlive you.

Until this particular tumor was explained to me I thought it was just a solid mass in a very difficult place, no it's not that at all, what makes DIPG tumors different are the way they're intertwined, one layer healthy cells, next layer cancer cells, 3rd layer healthy, and so on, they're tightly intertwined impossible to remove the cancerous layers, knowing how your child is happy and dancing with joy, coming to terms that one day they'll be gone along with seeing their joy gone too, my immediate family are now gone, my dad 52 years now, I think grief is the unexplainable reason why they've gone somewhere before but have always come back, while in death they'll never be coming home, your brain can't process that fact and there lies what grief really is.

Heartbreaking, but positive!!! It is more heartbreaking to watch your child die, despite horrific cancer treatment. Those children "live", but suffer horrific physical and mental problems. If l was a child, l would rather die than go to a children's cancer ward. Some wise parents have seen that the pain is not worth the gain, and refused treatment for their children.

It has nothing to do how western medicine sucks. This type of tumour intertwined with normal cells. If you think you have removed one layer and the following layers are clear, sadly you are wrong. One layer could be clear, next layer would have cancer cells, the next layer clear and so forth. We have come a long way in treatments for cancer. Yet there is still so much to do with regards to research and treatments available to patients.
