Can't believe her debut album came out 20 years ago this week. I was a little boy and my mom played the hell out of this album top to bottom, left and right. From cleaning the house to cooking, to family gatherings to driving, this album was the sound track of my childhood in 2002 along with Ashanti and Ja Rule, Nelly and Kelly Rowland and Tweet. I also remember Start Little and PS2 being out this year as well. Oh how I miss these days.

2002/2003. This and “Fall and Love” literally was the essence of those years. These songs just set a different tone. Literally Everytime I listen to these songs, I’m remind of High School, how I felt about my high school crush. Just how things was just so beautiful then. Life, love, friendships, everything was just perfect. I get to everyone their Era was the best. But 2002-2006 is undeniably the best years of our lives!

Back when female singers where natural

Amerie has a delivery where she rapid changes a note on a word instead of using melisma to flow tones on a vowel. And she changes the tones so quickly on the words with efficiency that it gives a very intetesting stocatto sound in her music. Top that with Janet Jackson esque intricate stacked vocal harmonies and you have a very unique singer with her own style. Haven't heard many other singers try to replicate the rapid fire note change on a word the way she does.
