This is a Bossa nova sample that was used in rap songs. The sample used is one of my favorite songs, 1963 song "Saudade Vem Correndo". The original song is amazing for those who love jazz. The Pharcyde used it during that era when rappers were sampling old jazz songs. I'm a huge jazz person so I loved that era in rap.

The industry was changing so fast in the early to mid 2000's. Mya, Amerie, Missy, Mario Winans, Donell Jones, Avant and so on got such a hard setback, If you from the East Coast you know what I'm talking about. The culture and class was unique to us. The lyrics, emotions and softness was just enough and in my opinion harder than any other music scene that came out after.

Can I explain that it took me nearly 15 years to find this song ... it haunted me that I couldnt find it because there was no Shazam back in 2003-04. I kept asking people I knew - I'd hum it. No one knew. I heard it somewhere and the melody I kept singing it and trying... Got here through a documentary about Mya on Empressive KZread Channel. I may have to repeat this song and many others for many many hours to make up for all the years her music has been kept hidden. I didn't realize how much of a fan I am of Mya's music because the industry has suppressed her voice for so long. It is wrong for any entity to have that much power over how we as fans can access and support the artists who deserve it most. Getting ready to pay some money where it is due. 👏👏👏❤💚💜💙💛💼🙌🙏

I did the same thing too but for the remix version (ft. Pharcyde). Lol it was difficult to explain the guy’s part. The most ugly, floppy, vague words of rapping I had to do so people would understand. The only thing I remembered was ‘head over heels’. I am glad I found both versions today morning. 😂

I can't relate, because I bought her albums back in like 2003. This song just randomly popped into my head today, so I quickly decided to watch the music video. I feel bad you had to wait so long, though! But I have had songs stuck in my head where I only knew the melody. But, usually I can still find the song. Although one time it took me several straight hours of going through videos and songs trying to find one, but I found it! lol

When R&B Was R&B

Hmm, I feel like we all misunderstood the premise. Al first sight it looks like a stalker video, but in the end he hears a sound upstairs, goes to check, and seems relieved or kinda amused by what he found in his bathroom. Picks up her jeans and smiles, like he knows who they belong to, and doesn't seem surprised at all, so it may not be the first time they do this. So maybe they were just playing ...like role playing game.

Denniz Dennett that subway is definitely Toronto... look at the sign it said Bayview Station. I know that platform and the inside of the subway was 100% inside a Toronto subway.

The underwater scene is very reminiscent of the underwater scene in Aliyahs Rock the Boat video. Plus i love the violins at the very end..sounds kind of sad in a way

You watch that movie with your girls? Congrats bruh. That's my relationship/father-hood goal. I love that movie. It had a good soundtrack, and this playing in the background got me. Even though I heard/saw this video when it first came out, and I was a kid, I still love it to this day. I don't know what happened to Mya. She used to be so popular.
