Friends of mine from Texas came over to Scotland a few years ago to see the Highlands and laughed at the idea they might find the driving tiring "We drive hundreds of miles every day!" they laughed. One day of driving a manual car on very twisty, very narrow, very steep roads with sheep and deer as well as locals driving fast was enough to break them!

I think it's the same holiday we had a very unpleasant stay at a B&B where the host clearly didn't like tourists...either that or just people with small children 🤔. @walterfillingham Жыл бұрын
I’ve often noticed Americans are used to driving long distances in a short a time as possible, but trying to do that in somewhere like Scotland particularly in the Highlands, you miss so much, you would have just driven past so much lovely scenic and historical places. And try and stay away from the traditional tourist places, Loch Ness although is nice there are actually much more beautiful lochs and places to visit, some quite near Loch Ness itself where you can enjoy peace and quite away from the tourist throngs and commercialism

I suppose it’s stereotypically Scottish to be unreasonably chippy about how non Scots pronounce place names, but I can’t deny that it makes me unreasonably happy to hear visitors especially Americans , pronounce Glasgow as we do. I am well aware of the condescension in this view but there you go. It’s the small things and all that. Anyway, thanks for visiting and coaxing a smile from me (not easy, another stereotype) .

@@blackbob3358 I have a vague memory of visiting Smoo cave years ago when the kids were wee. I think it's the same holiday we had a very unpleasant stay at a B&B where the host clearly didn't like tourists...either that or just people with small children 🤔. It wasn't as bad as our ill-fated camping trip to Oban, however. Torrential rain and a haze of midges at eye level in the tent. The scenery is beautiful but those things aren't 🤣.
At the end of your video you did not end up in Edinburgh. You actually arrived in Inverness.

Americans always stress the 2nd syllable in a word, like the French. But Loch Lomond is pronounced LOHmnd, not l'MOND. First syllable stressed, second syllable crushed. Follow that rule for most UK pronunciations.

Not Cameron House. I been going there for the last 5 years. I believe it is Rossdhu House.
I’m from the hills you called mountains at the start of the video they called the campsie hills at the bottoms a town called lennoxtown if you want to see somewhere truly amazing go to the Isle of Skye and go to either the fairy pools or neist point there’s no where like there anywhere else on the planet 😊
I live in the central belt of Scotland and love visiting the highlands. I've never been to Loch Ness or Inverness but did some tours last year. I recongised Glencoe and some of the areas around Loch Lomond. It's another world up there. Furthest North for myself is Mallaig on the west and Aviemore to the east.
we did the same drive back in 97 fabulous scenery, the most stunning part of Scotland for me
Nice job, Tay!❤️❤️

at @9:34 You can see my old house from there. Fort Augustus is a lovely small town / village. I think we got more tourists than residents that lived there.

Good film. Well done. 😎
I think the "castle" was on the left hand side of the road while driving north so possible Auchendennan House. It is very close to the Duck Bay and Cameron mentioned by others but these are on the right hand side. It was on sale in 2020 so plenty of videos/pictures inside and out available if you search for them.
If you like doughnuts, Glasgow has huge ones (handmade in store) in Tantrum Doughnuts, Gordon Street.
Interesting video Tay. Staunton.
Lots of big jumps in editing, from the 3 sisters in Glencoe to Inverness, OOOFT! Her accent reminds me when an American friend asked me how to get to "Lake Lamond" To be fair she did pronounce Glasgow and Edinburgh rather well, not your usual American tourist "Glass-cow" and "Edinboro" Glad you enjoyed your time in our amazing country Tay, you should have visited Dundee aka Tayside!

Outside the main towns and cities you're on a hiding to nothing if you try to cover as much distance as quickly as possible. It's just not safe.

Loved Glasgow. Planned to stay for two days but stayed the whole week. I think we stayed in the same hotel. Premier Inn?
It's often difficult to find a good place to eat when you don't know a city. It's just unfortunate that if you had walked the other way towards the city centre, for example, there woulds have been loads of choices without needing a reservation.
Looks like you made it all the way to Inverness, which is where the last 30 seconds of the video were shot. Please identify the names of the towns and places you visit in your videos!

just a little thing Glasgow is pronounced as Glaz-go, rather than Glass-gow... lol the steep hill next to Beresford Hotel is a killer!!! My home is the higlands of scotland a place called Ardnamurachan its the most westerly point on british mainland! defo worth a visit next time your in scotland. Hard to find a Scottish restaurant in Scotland (and also hard to find an English restaurant in England). But the upside is there are plenty of other cuisines to try.
I see you appreciate Marks and Spencers (M&S) products. It is an iconic British brand; it also sells clothes, toiletries and other products but its Food Halls are highly regarded. M&S own brands are seen as premium not like supermarket own brands.
She seems lovely but not sure why she didn't book in the town, Scottish Food is brilliant in recent years. What about The Gannet or The Ubiquitous Chip?

@@taystaunton : For such a small nation, the UK offers so much diversity Tay, Scotland itself is a great example of that, the West Coast is so different to the East Coast, the Border areas in the South are different to the Highlands, the further North you go, the more diverse, each city is unique, the extreme North West, although not a huge area, is wild and remote, and ruggedly beautiful, then you have the many islands, off both the whole West Coast, and then the extreme North East, and of course, there’s the 500, which is a fabulous drive! You need to take 12 months to see the UK Tay, and research knowledgable locals for the best guidance! 🙏🏻👍🏻

You didn`t venture very far for a place to eat. There`s 100`s of restaurants, cafes and bars that also sell food. In fact, you were only a hop, skip and a jump from Byers Road in the West End with lots of eateries. Get a free map from your hotel next time you`re in Glasgow.

Sorry you got bad advice on where to go in glasgow. It’s worth going again so you can see it properly. Avoid Sauchihall street completely, it was ok 10 years ago, not anymore. Stick to the city centre like merchant city area, George square, then West end Argyll street, Byres road, Ashton lane. Good luck!
Just in case you buy a sandwich or a baguette out of many of the nice bakery places be careful because some of the gulls can be very aggressive and would think nothing of swooping down and grabbing the food out of your hand. Seriously!
