Part of the Maggie's dead one is that she blamed the Hillsborough disaster on the "drunken Liverpool fans" and sided with the police refusing to open a proper investigation when she was PM. Years later her part in the cover up was revealed in a paper.

HERE ARE NO, I REPEAT NO SCRIPTS - NEITHER IS IT ORGANISED... someone makes up something and sings in in the pub, some get taken up, and then used at the club, and often other fans. Some don't get taken up and are quickly forgotten. IT IS SPONTANEOUS, that's all there is to it

Little bit of context: Man City fans chanting "We're having a party when Fergie dies" was referring to the fact that legendary Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson(Definitely worth reacting to a video on him, arguably the greatest manager ever) was in hospital with a brain haemorrhage. As for the Maggie's dead chant, you're right she was Conservative and while the big Northern cities like Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle are always Labour, they had a particularly tough time while she was PM. Liverpool fans have extra reason to hate her because of of the events of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 when 96 Liverpool fans died in a human crush in a stadium in Sheffield. In reality, the police let far too many people into the stadium and the overcrowding resulted in so many deaths and hundreds of serious injuries but given that this was at the height of football hooliganism, the police and Thatcher spun it as being directly as a result of the drunkenness of the crowd. It took until 2017 for the police in charge to finally be charged for their actions; both for the negligence that led to the event, and then the shameless cover up that followed.

I really recommend you watch Gerrard’s compilation because he is ABSOLUTELY up there with the best of them, he was a beast
Maggie Thatcher is a divisive character in British society. Her political policies changed Britain during the 80's. Her policies had a detrimental effect on many working class people and caused a lot of civil unrest at the time, riots etc. She also took a hard line against football hooligans during that period, which was way out of control during that period. The 80's / early 90s was a tough time for Britain and the British people.
The Maggies dead, comes from her comments after the Hillsborough disaster, she blamed the Liverpool fans. Before the outcome of the inquiry confirmed it was a police failing. They also hate Boris Johnson and the Sun newspaper. The latter struggles to get sales in Liverpool. Including amongst Liverpools rivals Everton.
Maggie thatcher was hated pretty widely in the uk, especially poorer and more northern communities
I've been going to football games since a kid and ive never, ever been handed a script for the chants 😂
Thatcher was detested in industrial, working class Britain, areas like the North, the Midlands, Wales and Scotland.
That pitch was genius "Subscribe first" "Yeh you convinced em" Im dying🤣🤣🤣
To clarify, bender has 2 slang meaning in parts of the UK, 1.Getting completely drunk (out on t he piss, out on a bender), and also a derogatory term for being gay. Margret Thatcher (Maggie) was NOT liked by the Northern part of the UK, and Scotland at all, I won't go into why.

Pick the least vile chant as the number 1. Plenty of folks weren't exactly heartbroken when Maggie passed, especially in the north.
You need to understand these aren't franchise's like nfl or nba teams, these clubs have been embedded in our communities for decades, centuries even... Wait, did one of you at the end just say Gerrard isn't as good as moderic 😂🤦 Tell me you know nothing about football without telling me you know nothing about football

Credit to the guy who knew who Thatcher was and what party she led. You mention Steve Gerrard, you said he is only known for slipping on his arse, mate watch "One night in Istanbul" Then tell me he is only known for one thing.

Just came across your videos tonight. Absolutely brilliant 😂
maggie thatcher was considered vile by the uk working class.
17 biggest derbies in English football will get you a proper look into it. Shows the fans fighting the fans
Even as an Arsenal fan I gotta say the end part about Gerrard was a bit disrespectful, he's not only one of the greatest PL players ever and captained the champions league winning Liverpool squad, he's also one of the greatest long range shooters ever, his long range goal highlights are only second to Roberto Carlos, I don't know where y'all got the idea from that his highlights aren't entertaining.
The idea behind Margaret Thatcher is that she came to power during a very hard time for many people. with the work Unions holding strikes across the nation, every time one happened it affected the nations economy, to put a stop to this she brought down the hammer real hard in an attempt to break the Unions. Under her leadership many people from the worker class suffered and many adults today saw their parents suffer due to her, hatred was common for her as was admiration for what she accomplished. When the recessions hit in 2007-2009 it was found that it hit the UK hard due to Margaret Thatcher actions that moved the UK from a Manufacturing based economy to a Service based one, this led to even more hatred for her as this also highlighted the problem with recent political parties in the UK for the last 40 year. They only care about what they can do in their time in control and not what they can set in motion for others to complete and finish to better the nation
All done in the old tradition of putting your opponent off . The English archers at Agincourt probably sung something similar to the French
Maggie Thatcher is hated in the north, especially in Liverpool, a city she wanted to put in a "managed decline" instead of helping economically while she was Prime Minister. Her policies killed large portions of labor heavy industries (like mining), which then fucked over loads of people's income in the north. She also 100% stood by a police force that negligently let 97 Liverpool FC supporters die in a stadium crush and afterwards faked reports and witness testimonies to save their own asses and put the blame on the supporters. The week Maggie Thatcher died the 1939 song "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" went straight to #2 on the UK singles chart.
Being a football fan from England, this is nothing, this is just everyday songs when it comes to football
Margaret Thatcher was hated in Liverpool but you are right, she was a conservative but really disliked in Liverpool and Manchester
Fun fact when Margaret Thatcher died, Ding Dong the Witch is Dead became No 1 in the charts.

Bro doesn't realise how many insane goals Steven Gerrard scored, honestly none of us here remember the slip, you people do because you didn't watch him week in week out, one of the best midfielders of all time
@dentze
Жыл бұрын
Exactly! It reads very much like he just got into football and is going off of big names, which is fine, but it doesn't dismiss the insane legacy Gerrard left.
There’s a great one from when Jamie Carragher munched Nani with a slide tackle and was sent off. At a later game when man united played liverpool, fans chanted ‘nani are you okay, are you okay, are you okay nani etc You’ve been hit by, youve been struck by, a smooth carragher’
So there's stories behind them all but Margaret Thatcher decided public opinion between mostly north and south imposing sanctions against lots of working people, Liverpool fans in particular hate her because she was prime minister and later found guilty of a cover up at Hillsborough which was a fire where Liverpool fans died inside the stadium and the government sided with the police etc so even as a man United fan I can agree she kinda deserves that one.
