this is great, most countries used to be able to have somewhat controversial comedy or as its called satire is not commonly accepted anymore, people get too easily triggered and maaany of them grew up watching south park... i miss these kinds of movies/series

Well it was live. He couldn't do a re-take as they do in pre-recorded tv shows.
This was not "all out". He slipped out of character, which is rare. Probably because of the hilariously shocked faces of the "I know this is a joke, but it is still offensive!" people. Making people cringe with embarrassment is a particular forte of British comedy. The more toe-curling the better. Ricky Gervais carries the baton well.

Our Universities are breeding grounds for the best comedy, always have been, loads of them have degrees, love the way you laugh loudest at the women jokes, it's ok I was a teenager in the UK in the 70s, we got used to it, we could always see the funny side, don't know about how the younger ones today take it

@@W0rdsandMus1c the comedians themselves some have degrees and are funny, but the institutions and the majority of young kids there now are too offended for anything like this comedy here on display, Iv recently graduated trust me they are extremely woke places with people scared to even make a joke. @@herb2078 Survey probably wrong word, more like public information, you only have to google what comedians went to university, the magic of the internet 🤣depends on what you class as young I suppose, my son finished uni a couple of years ago and he and his mates love the same humour as me, maybe it is more to do with growing up with your parents humour.

@@W0rdsandMus1c ye okay I get you haha! I think there’s definitely pockets of people still who can take a joke, but the institutions themselves are ridiculous now everyone is offended. I think also the types of university matters, more red brick type ones are worse ( I went to the equivalent of a met and they are better but slowly it’s creeping in). Your 100% right a huge amount of humour comes from your parents and family, tradition of good old fashioned British piss taking has to survive 😂
It's part of British comedy to cut through social protocols. Those who say 'you can't do that' make excellent targets.
Yes they knew who he was😁 everybody knew him in 2004, even Americans did. I mean he was in a music video of Madonna (which was a big hit and shown non stop on MTV and was played on the radio every damn minute lol😁), so even if they didn’t know his show, they knew who he was.

There is not much to be proud of being British these days. But in comedy we rule the world. We don't care what is said as long as it is funny and not meant to offend. With people like Ali G, Jimmy Carr, Sean Lock (RIP), Gervais, Frankie Boyle and a whole lot more, Brit comics go where few other countries comics dare to go.

Well, a big clap for the audience. This was a great performance that would have been applauded in the UK - but we think the US audience is more conservative and I'd expected more shock and outrage.
