Each sister brought something special to the group. June had the raw energy and edginess. Ruth had humor and strength. Bonnie had sass & charisma. Anita had elegance and seemed grounded. I always considered her the leader. Also, her voice is one of the best of the last 50 years.

Anita for president. The editing is odd but it doesn't matter, just give her a microphone and her brilliance shines when she speaks or sings. I know the family is grieving now. They should find comfort knowing June and Bonnie's gift of joy, energy, and creativity is eternal. The Pointer Sisters gave us a legacy of transcendent beauty that will resonate forever.

I was in the military stationed in Washington, D.C. in the early 70s...before the world knew who the Pointer Sisters were. They did a show in Georgetown (in DC) and people lined up for blocks to see them. Not only were they ALL great singers, they put on a show that was unreal. I think everyone fell in love with them! I think they lost some of the magic when they stopped wearing their original clothes...clothes from about the '40s....I think they've said they bought from second-hand stores. It was like a trademark.

Love this interview! To me Anita Pointer has always been the heart of the Pointer Sisters. She always came across as the calm centered one that kept everything together. Being 39, I grew up with their big hits blasting on the radio in the 80s. Their vocals just bring a happiness to me that can’t be described. Imagine my surprise in 2006 when I found out about all of their Blue Thumb/ABC albums! The “Having a Party” album is kept in heavy rotation and I just discovered the bliss of “Could I Be Dreaming” off of the “Special Things” album. My biggest regret is never seeing the group live but at least we have so many wonderful performances preserved and available on KZread. I just ordered Anita and Fritz Pointer’s book “Fairytale: The Pointer Sisters' Family Story” from Anita’s website. I’m really looking forward to exploring the dynamics of my favorite group!

As a musician myself, I know what it takes to get a song together so that the group sounds decent enough to be able to perform in public. How in the world did they get a repertoire and musicians together in time to perform immediately before a crazed audience (like me). I'm such an admirer of this fabulous group of ladies. RIP Anita. 💜🥂
