    There’s a difference between Ricky’s stories which are unusual but interesting and possible, vs Karl’s which are illogical and often have very little or conflicting details.

    In the 60's my mum was aware of a guy in our town who could see perfectly, but when he needed money he would beg using a sign saying 'totly blind' because he couldn't spell😂. When he wasn't being 'totly blind' he drove a car, and was able to use a newspaper to pick out losing horses to bet on lol.

    Ricky proposed calling it "The Karl Pilkington Show" before when it switched to mainly talking to Karl.. and Karl said "I don't want my name to this. This is the Ricky Gervais show" 😂 The identical twins with the 3 arms/1 arm was an infamous internet hoax from 20+ years ago.. there was a picture of them after the operation. You could do that to identical twins, but the third arm would just be a dangler hooked up to the blood supply.. and not be able to be used like a normal arm. You could do it with someone not genetically identical these days too, but you'd have to take a load of drugs for the rest of your life so your body doesn't reject it. I would like a second set of arms though, they'd be handy! But may as well be robot arms you could pop on and off The "bees can't fly" thing is in the early days of working out the laws of aerodynamics, and scientists at the time couldn't work out how a bumble bee was able to fly (I think since it's been shown witn slow motion cameras how their wings flex as they beat back and forth to create uplift vortices or some such) There's always sea lions knocking about in San Francisco for some reason, only place I've seen 'em. Those ones must have gotten sick of the cold, and just decided tourists throwing doughnuts at them was a better life. Stay strong through your rough period Mandy, tons of positive stuff in your future 👍

    Just in case anybody is curious about how the hippo evolved it came from the same animal the hippo came from. Ricky’s theory is correct, and a certain amount of that species re-entered the sea and became walruses. The others remained on land, and became hippopotamuses. I think that’s why hippos love lying in the water all the time, clearly some broke off over time and decided to just stay in the water forever

    (Cause of the title of the video) Have you seen the movie The Fly? The remake was from the 1980s with Jeff Goldblum, but the original was from the 1950s and 1960s. Both versions are good. I guess whoever created the movie intended to have four parts to the original, because of the way each part ended. But, while part 3 of the original still did good with viewership, it was a flop in viewership compared to the first two parts. Probably because everyone got the point after the first two. So the remake knew to keep it at two parts. In the remake, the way the guy looked when part 2 ended, it reminded me of an ugly version of seals. Funny, cause I paused the video around the 4 to 5 minute mark to type that paragraph, and I mentioned seals, then at the 9 minute mark, they said "seals." And I paused to type this paragraph. That was, well not a "ha ha" funny, but a "interesting" funny. What IS funny is that both times when I paused, you were smiling at what they said in the video at said moment. So I guess Karl knows what I meant with the twin thing that I mentioned, was it two videos ago? 😂The part about looking alike. And I get what he was saying about the intestine. All of its length helps with digestion and stuff, and it does seem to be super long if stretched in a line end to end, I've heard, but why couldn't it just go from mouth to stomach to ass? Like how Neil DeGrasse Tyson, that famous scientist, even once said, if we had a mouth to swallow separate from our breathing pathway, we wouldn't choke. Then he put his hand at the top of his head and pretended that was a mouth chewing. The audience laughed. I've wondered about that part, too. Why have it where there's a chance of choking. Same idea with that and the intestine. Since they said "spider island," there's an island called "Snake Island" (not the one in Ukraine), where it's called that, and even humans aren't allowed to go there, because it's filled with snakes. The way they said this one was filled with spiders, but with snakes instead.

Karl said one of the stupidest things on the entire podcast series about bees needing confidence to fly and Ricky corrected him lol nobody knew how bees could fly, on the face of it with the knowledge we had about them, they shouldn't have been able to but we've since learned how they do it, the myth that they shouldn't be able to fly still persists though because of people like Karl lol

    I can't see, even if you could graft on another arm and redirect blood flow so that it survives (whilst massively reducing overall circulation), how you could hook up nerve connections so that you could feel and/or move it.

  • @DovahFett

    @DovahFett

    It wouldn't just be the nerves to worry about, but the bones as well. The movement of limbs relies on a carefully constructed system of bone and muscle tissue. You would have to redesign a person's skeleton to accommodate another limb, and then they'd have to somehow gain the ability to move that additional arm even though their brains had evolved to only be able to control two at a time.

    Karl thinks it's bad for us to be helping so many people, because he's fixated with everything being in its "proper" place. He doesn't like people trying to change their lot in life, doesn't like animals which are similar to other animals (we've already got one in that slot, why do we need another), and doesn't like it when people behave differently to the stereotype he has for someone like them. He doesn't like it when a three-legged person becomes a juggler instead of using their third leg somehow, because surely the third leg is somehow part of their destiny and they're ruining that. He doesn't like people going traveling because they should be happy where they are. And it makes him cross when we humans interfere too much in what he sees as the natural order of things - even if that's making glasses for a fly to help it see better or helping people who are disadvantaged by something outside their control. For Karl, every person and every thing has a proper place in the universe, and it annoys him when people or even animals do something which goes against the destiny which nature has assigned for them.
