Odin is always one step ahead. Shadow being his only living son will have a vigil for 9 days and nights and he'll finally discover how powerful he is.

if you watch the scene of the two raven while shadows sit on the bed and the sunrise rays come from the windows, somehow it represents an image of "Odin sitting on his throne being accompanied by his two loyal ravens"

Ganesha is also the remover of obstacles. This is why he is leaving shadow hints.

I think Shadow is the embodiment of duality so he’s both baldur and höör. He survived the cold like Hood, and his ice base visions and causing a snow storm in season one, then there’s the baldur side that manipulates light, he also has shown to emit light and increase the potency of light around him.

@@FishHeadPhil I guess since Laura made that deal with the New Gods for safety or something, he was there to hold up that part of the deal. Anyway, he's Mr. Road and they were kinda standing on a road so he was able to manifest.

Does no one think about why Mr. Wednesday referred to Cordelia as "Friday" while talking to Czernobog? Maybe Cordelia is Frigg, but like Shadow, unaware of her godhood?

Man or girl Friday is the term for what she basically does, but it does provide that link, particularly as he also introduced her to Shadow as his fiance. I am still inclined to suspect she is one of his children.

@@mackenziedrake Right I'm trying to figure this out too lol. Friday is also Frigg as some mention but also another Goddess Freya. Freya has a twin Freyr and is also a sun God and God's of the Vanir. What if They changed shadow from Baldr to Freyr. People have already read the book they have to keep a surprise.

Best episode of the season so far for me. Things were in its climax. The slow mo of Gungnir piercing through Wednesday is just gold.

When Wednesday is stabbed with the spear he is between the signs Virgo and Libra... Virgo can be connected to Demeter and Libra is the sign of justice aka Tire

Lets be honest guys Odin knew what was coming and he is a guy who has always a Plan to survive I think we will see him soon enough again

whilst I'm not convinced Odin's death is gunna be permanent it did kinda seem like he spent most of this episode playing Czernobog. Setting him up as the one who will gather the old gods. Like Odin he has all those connections but unlike Odin he hasn't pissed everyone off. Having Czernobog as second at the 'peace talk' meant he was witness to Mr World's stance and Odin's matyrdom. Odin was making sure he saw exactly what he needed to see to take up the mantel.

If trickery is what Mr. World does, does that mean he is somewhat Loki? He said in the finale trailer that "Trickery is what I do best". He changes shapes and on the bad side of Odin.

I dont think you mentioned that Wednesday referred to Cordelia as Friday at Czernobog's apartment. Which is named after a Goddess. Considering also that he conscripted her into the war and gave her a magical item (used last episode) as a parting gift i think her identity is worth looking into. Also Wednesday referred to her as his fiancee the first time she appeared which matches with Frigga's role in norse mythology.

Yup I noticed it too. Friday is Venus in roman mythology (from Latin "veneris dies", day of venus), also known as Aphrodite in greek mythology. Goddess of love, beauty, desire, fertility and prosperity. But just as I was writing this comment I learned that the English weekday named Friday is named after Frigga (ultimately meaning 'Frigg's Day') which appears to be a calque of the latin way of naming this day 😲 Maybe she's or will be the reincarnation of Frigga, and Shadow Moon will be the reincarnation of Odin. As I read in another comment, Shadow Moon may have collected the offered souls of lakeside by falling into the lake or by killing Hinzelmann. Which was probably planned by Wednesday that planted all the hints and prepped Hinzelmann to do the offerings? Well anyway at the end, we see the two crows of Wednesday waiting for Shadow. Maybe they're just here to inform him, or maybe he's their new master as Odin reincarnation?

Lord Ganesha's trunk = Trunk of the clunker 😄😄 Hinzelmann told Shadow that she was a benevolent spirit but since people made sacrifices in her name that she had to deliver. This was more like how Bilquis had forgotten who she was and became someone as what people want her to be

The ice idol is GANESHA, god with a elephant head, who has a “TRUNK”

Bookers knew Odin was going to get killed.. Laura is dead the whole time in the book, but she doesn't do it. The new Gods kill him at the "peace" conference, but the killer is not named. His death has the desired effect. Stay tuned.

The way the two ravens were placed on the end kind of signifies Shadow now becoming like his father, and "taking over". it was a nice touch

They've deviated from the book...Shadow Moon's "other half" is his mother...the goddess Libertas. Baldr's light always shines.....Shadow's does not...but the light of liberty will always shine on those that seek it. That's why Laura sees him...she was seeking him...but mainly to be free.

Shadows t shirt in his dream/drowning sequence had a logo, half sun half moon

I didn't notice in the dream that she turned into Wednesday when drowning him nice find. I can't wait for the vigil scene either. I'm also anticipating that they explain more what artifact one is with Tech boy & if Bilquis has found Shadow's other half which seems highly possible in the trailer. Can't wait for your video on the season finale.

At this point there is no doubt that Orlando Jones was telling the truth on why he was fired from the show. The showrunner's explanation that there was no place for Mr. Nancy on this seasons because they were covering the part of the book that didn't feature Nancy is complete bullshit. First of all, most of this season had barely anything to do with what happens in the book. Second, there were obviously many points on the season where Mr. Nancy could've fit in the narrative pretty naturally. And third, Orlando Jones said he was fired because the new showrunner didn't like Nancy's "angry gets the shit done" attitude, and seeing the odd way they retconned Bilquis, it really seems accurate.

I find it interesting that Ganesh in a mercury- adjacent spirit, and the day for Ganesh is Wednesday. Just like Odin. Also, in next week's promo, mr. World says something about being very tricky which makes me think he might be Loki. Trying to get all the worship for himself. Mercury in astrology does represent communication/ crossroads/ and technology.

Mercury is also Wednesday ("day of Woden". Woden/wutan/Odin). That about means that Wednesday planted hints to lure Shadow Moon into the Lake and kill Hinzelmann to collect the souls offered for himself and gain power? Plus the two odin's crows waiting for him as if he was their new master as Wednesday dies. So maybe Shadow Moon will be Wednesday/Odin's reincarnation And don't forget that Wednesday presented Cordelia as Friday to Czernobog (which means Frigga's Day in English) and he presented her as his fiancée to Shadow Moon in ep1. Maybe she'll be Frigg's reincarnation and Wednesday giving her Mjolnirr necklace wasn't pointless. I'm so hyped for the finale !! Now I believe it's not just their reincarnation but their offsprings. As I believe the Orisha must have a play. I think Shadow Moon being the mix between Anglo-Saxon/Norse heritage and Afro-American heritage. And Cordelia seems to be of Latin descent ? Both representing actual USA and their different heritages ?

Reminds me of the Dark Lord of the Sith and how Anakin was turned to the dark side. In steps. If he asks Shadow outright to take his role, Shadow says no, but if Odin dies, then it’s another story. Shadow knew that Laura was trying to kill Odin and didn’t earn him or talk Laura out of it.

Nice catch on Wednesday's face in Shadow's dream/vision. Even after you said it I had to strain my eyes a bit to see it.

I enjoyed the hell out of this episode,the pacing was on point and everything went on without taking me out of it,though I'm not saying the whole season was like that,I'm starting to see parts of the book unfold (differently) I'm looking forward to the season final and hope that there's at least another season to conclude the story

Hinzelmann was creepier and much more disturbing in the book. -She- He shows Shadow his true form... a preserved child's corpse skewered with weapons and worshipped as an idol. Likely why the kobold or house spirit is 'small', it was originally a dead toddler.

@@crozraven In the book Chad and Shadow burn the house down to make it look like an accident. So, I think the flammable blood thing is just a play on that, so that they don't have to explain to anyone what happened...

I enjoyed this episode very much. I think Wednesday comes back and his sacrifice inspires the Old God's to follow him to War against the New God's. So his plan all along

Wednesday seemed to expect the spear. He didn't move but his hands kind of invited the spear. And as he is a con-man I would expect this to be a ploy as I don't believe he just gave up on everything especially considering that he was kind of happy after killing thyr dentist and telling shadow to do what he wants (also suspicious). and the runes didn't appear when shadow killed swaeny if I remember correctly which would imply that these runs did something other than give a lightship to dins killing.

I think & possibly believe that all the “murders” of Lakeside, was all sacrifices collected & dedicated for Shadow’s transition to godhood. When he fell threw the ice he collected the souls unto himself unknowingly. When Wednesday passed, Shadow’s powers were activated, causing him to feel the transaction of power as the ravens come to serve him!

I'm not Viking but this is impossible, Odin cannot die, he can only die during the Ragnarok, n in any case, then he resurrects (even when hanging on yggdrasil dies 9 days and 9 nights n then he live) . Anyway😢

Wednesday was definitely running a con and manipulated everyone in doing it. He set Laura on the path to get the spear (remembering that this seemed to be planned by Mr World and whomever he was talking to on the phone), he released Shadow from his obligation to him, which was suspicious as both Sweeny and the djinn said that Wednesday didn't let you out of a debt, he definitely played Churnabog in to wanting to fight the new gods. He expected the spear and "died" pretty easily, his death seemed to affect Shadow who may now come into his powers, it seemed to me that the ravens were communicating with him. Also Wednesday now has his spear back as its stuck in him. I am assuming that he needed Shadow to power up so he can use him in the fight against the new gods and that Wednesday will be back given that he still has followers. Think he might be under estimating Laura though I have been thinking for sometime that she is important and maybe Shadows protector in some way.

Finally getting back on track with the book, with minor changes! Episode 10 should be great. Is there anyone else who read the book? Just wondering because of the majority of comments indicate no. If you haven’t I highly recommend it.

@@skinnyfacededany1198 it seems the script for season 4 is already finished. Ricky Whittle said in an interview we will see how important Tech Boy is for the world and the story. Bliquis will be find by the world 🤔 Laura leaving her past. They slowly moving towards together to an epic end. 🙂

After the 2 ravens land outside Shadow’s window, the dawn emerges behind him signifying a new dawn or reign that is Shadows after his father passing. Also it will be interesting how the new gods will interact with Shadow now that Laura has fulfilled her end of the bargain and will now be granted security and safe passage for her, Shadow, and the Salim. It’s as if Wednesday anticipated that scenario and it gives the old gods the advantage.

"Laura Moon" is technically a God as she died went to the spirt world twice on separate occasions and is born again. Plus, she has killed an established God meaning even more credibility to her becoming something she both despises along with fears.

In Welsh "dydd Gwener". "Gwener" being Venus equivalent.

@@Flippy_Nips yes but it is WIDELY accepted by historians thats they were based off the same goddess and split into two different personas when Christianity entered and ruined/changed all the history and written documents of the norse gods. Also Wednesday has made several references to freyja in this show but not frigg so I wouldn't be surprised if they went that way instead of being 100% historically accurate.

Wednesday also calls Cordelia as Friday while speaking with Chernobog and that would mean she is Frigg, the Norse Goddess and the wife of Odin and he said that Zorya polunochnaya has a fondness for kissing his employees which is Shadow ofc and maybe he sent Cordelia for the same thing.

Odin calls Cordelia "my girl Friday", who he sent to the roof where there is a goddess with a fondness for kissing his employees. This is at the beginning of the conversation between Odin and Chernobog in their house. So he implies that she is the goddess Frigg.

Yup. Friday means Frigg's day in English. And I'll add that he presented her as his fiancée to Shadow Moon in ep1. If not Frigg herself maybe her reincarnation, or maybe another version (as we've seen the 140 versions of jesus) or maybe that she'll acquire some of Frigg's power. I believe the Mjolnirr necklace will have a role in her getting her powers.

I thought Friday was Freya or Frey's Day? It makes more sense to me because Frigg was Odin's wife and I don't see a romantic relationship between Wednesday and Cordelia. Edit: In Old English and some Germanic cultures it was Frigg's Day, but in others and Norse culture it was Freya's day. In some cases they were the same god, and just like Wednesday represents a variety of Odin myths (as well as Balor from Irish mythology), she could be both Freya and Frigg

Laura kills Wednesday with Gungnir and ancient runes appear. Remember Wednesday is bound to the shores of America. Do the runes take Wednesday to urðarbrunnr? Also, there seems to be something about gods of fortune or luck to possess a coin. Laura saw Shadow with a light aura around him when she was "dead". Does Shadow need that coin to find the other half to himself?

You kinda missed the point that Ganesha was sent as a clue to where to find the missing kids as elephants have *trunks*

Great review and episode.

Well thankfully they have returned to the book story. Although Hinzelmann and finding of the kids doesn't happen until literally the end of the book so this is out of sequence. In the book Hinzelmann reveals his true appearance. I would have liked to have seen that in the show but I guess they didn't have the budget for it. Edit: I guess they are going to skip the part where Shadow is arrested.. not going to say why just in case.. but it's one of the few parts where Anansi had a part.. and well.. not so much now. The up coming EP with the giant tree is the beginning of the end of the story... So S4 should be the last/final season. A fun fact; In the book, this tree is in Virginia. It actually exists, Gaiman stayed at the home where it is. He promised to never reveal it's location. Good hunting!

I still dont like the direction they take Laura in. I appreciate them not stuffing in another sex scene for the sake of having another Laura sex scene. But god damn, what's her end goal? What is she living for now? In the books it was clear she was trying to save/protect shadow. In the show they made her cheat on him even more, made her kill his dead despite him disapproving, and now? Sweeney is gone, so they cant give her an ending with him, I think shadow is so far past his relationship with her, he wont be dealing with her either. They can, at most, give her a heroic death saving shadow from something. But damn is she becoming more and more obsolete.

I think maybe she might have a future with Liam, especially because they planned to go sky diving after she killed wednesday. And she seems to be trying to improve herself in the new life she's been given by not having sex to cope with her problems and I am not sure if she is doing this or not but from her changing her mind about lighting the cigarette I think she is trying to stop using smoking as a coping mechanism aswell.

Did you notice the frame when Mr. World and Odin met for peace talks and as they spoke, within the shot in the background behind Mr. World there was a red-headed woman, she was out of focus but I am curious since I thought Mr.World came in with his regular faceless lackeys.

I loved this episode, but I still hope that Sweeney comes back. I haven’t read the books yet, but it seems to me like Shadow Moon will be inheriting Odin’s role, that’s why the birds came to him, because he is their new master. But Shadow is a benevolent God, in contrast to Odin. But don’t mistake his kindness for weakness. I have a feeling he may have also inherited some new powers upon his father’s death.

Sweeney made the show. He was easily one of the most wonderful, touching, and expressive characters i've ever seen in a show. The actor is formidable. His loss has been too great in the show. The actor that plays a leprechaun this season is fine but I wouldn't have written him in at all.

Somebody said this was the first time Cordelia said she liked girls but it isn't, when Shadow & her were talking in the alley during the Memorial for the evening star she said " I'm on the all girls team" to shadow when he asked her if she was after Odin and had daddy issues.

Why does it feel like next episode is the end of the whole series, I hope it isn't, I really hope it gets renewed for Season 4, I have seen people saying on Twitter that Season 4 has been confirmed but is that true???

Season 4 is confirmed, and while the next episode will be a cliffhanger from Hel, I am sure next season is going to be awesome as the various narratives come together.

@@mackenziedrake As long as they pull their fingers out, bring back Mr Sweeney, and more of the magic of earlier seasons. More emotional and touching moments. The fight between Odin and (I forget the god) this season was so poor I couldn't believe it. A real opportunity for theatrics, bright colours, and giant clashing figures. Err no. We got Ian Mcshane and co awkwardly hitting each other. Demeter leaving was wonderful, but I wanted more of that. The show hit it's peak with Sweeney's backstory. It touched me.

@@JohnnyZenith Sweeney is long dead by this point in the real story. His death was sad in the book, and by the time of his death, he and Shadow were starting to become good friends. The show flubbed it horribly. No telling what the show is going to do in S4, because it's a hot mess story wise right now. Shadow finding the girl in the trunk, and the Hinzelmann story was very touching in the book (and it also was the end of the book). There was a very nice and emotional/magic exchange between Shadow and Chad. You felt bad for Hinzelmann, and you really felt bad for what was to come to Lakeside. But that's all out the window in the show.

This episode was phenomenal, the end made me freak out :D

During the entire time a hammer being swung at Laura, Liam saving her, him catching the coin from Laura and then got hit himself and vanished, Wednesday did not move a single muscle. He could have stepped aside at least.

Odin is omniscient, it is all part of his plan. Yggdrasil has been growing for Shadow's sacrifice in it. He saying "goodbye" to Cordelia, giving her the mjolnir necklace; he expecting the spear with open arms.. etc. Don't fool yourself.. American gods it's all a game played by the allfather.. everything happens because of him, for him.

How has no one thought to cast Glover as Joker? Mr. World with classic Joker makeup is a near perfect example of the character.

Absolutely. I think it would have been hard not to see it if you are a fan. And his age is about right for the kinds of stories he would be good in. Really short sided by the casting agents to not have reached out to him. But who knows. Perhaps they did and he was not interested. Although now that he seems to be working it might be the time.

I actually liked this episode. I am curious to see how they are going to connect all of these revelations. In the book, most of them happen towards the very end. The cinematography was brilliant especially the Gungnir scene.

I am sad to see Odin go I loved that character and that actor.

Cordelia first revealed to Shadow at the wake for Zoraya by the cars that she's part of the Girls Only club. The Shard app in the car scene wasn't the first reveal.

The caduceus was the symbol of Hermes/Mercury, who the Romans associated with Odin. A coin with an elephant on one side and a caduceus on the other could simply mean "this is a gift/message from Ganesha to the son of Odin". Also, how come bullets can't kill Hinzelmann if Zorya and a bunch of other gods in that diner died from being shot in season 2? Is it because Hinzelmann was in her home turf (her town) or were the new gods using special bullets at the diner? Anyway, great video as always man.

father like son when they kill someone, shadow killed the lakeside god while it was distracted just as odin did with tyr, and what's up with bright light surrounding shadow at end

The tagline for this show should be, "A slow, slow, SLOOOW burn."

I don't know if this is too obvious, but the coin not only has an elephant on it, it has the *trunk* of an elephant as an extra hint to the trunk of the clunker.

Ganesha slides the coin down it's face which literally/ graphically shows him "The trunk" not the coin sliding under the wheel

Artifact 1 is a Clovis point. 🏹 One of the oldest dated artifact tools (weapons) or “tech” made by man, dated about 10,000 BCE. It’s a fun archeology Easter Egg!! 😁

Who was standing behind Laura with sunglasses on? It wasn't Doyle, he had already bounced to the opposite side after pushing her to the ground, I saw the person twice. (Edit, THREE TIMES!)

It might be unnintentional, but isn't there a theory Shadow is Baldur? Cuz in the end of the episode, after the ravens appear, all of the sudden, the enviorment lights up, right behind him. I may not be showing my point as i want to, but you get the gist of it. Might that be that he now realizes and accepts what his heritage is? Or that he makes up his mind on his fate, realazing that he can't have a normal life ( His talk with Bilquis touched this, as he would choose his fate and discover his true self, just like the godess ).

I suspect he felt a power surge when Odin died, and yes, those were Odin's ravens. I'm guessing Wednesday flat out lied about their pact being at an end. The vigil must be, starting next week.

Storydive I have a question does shadow keep the coin he got from the Ganesh Ice sculpture and if he does, does that mean shadow has luck similar to when he had the moon coin on him

Finally a good episode in this season .

This episode felt somewhat rush. The show skip a lot of events. Sure, the trip to Florida wasn't so important to be on screen, but I would still like to see what happen in the town after Hinzelmann's death. It felt as if Shadow went to see Marguerite the morning after Hinzelmann encounter. I guess we just have to assume that Shadow told Chad about the bodies in the clunckers and the Sheriff dept. confirmed it, then told all the parents?

@@hawkdsl To be fair, the first season was almost too esoteric and said to deviate a lot from the book. But, by the gods, that first season was the most exciting and visually striking TV show I have ever watched. Now it's all gone down hill and down the drain...

The Norns and the Moirai are one and the same Urd(Norse)Atropos(Greek) Verdandi(Norse)Clotho(Greek) Skuld(Norse)Lachesis(Greek) They are another intermingling of the pantheons much like GAIA(Greek) is the one true Mother Earth goddess with different guises to the pantheons like Jord(Norse) and Aye(Orisha)

When Shadow was talking to Chad at Derek's house, I am pretty sure there was an outline of the thunderbird

Safe Extraction was in her deal with Mr. World. If she killed Odin, she was to be guaranteed safe extraction and protection for like 48 hrs

@@_TinyTitan I wondered about that guy as well. You think that was “safe extraction”? Hm. I did get a “World” feel, maybe one of his zombies. I also thought it might be a production error, some prop manipulator who’s supposed to be obscured by the dark, but was missed, sorta like the Starbucks cup in that GoT scene. 🤔😉😊

The "lake effect" doesn't exactly mean "more snow". In Wisconsin, it refers to the strong winds that circle the base of Lake Michigan. This causes the weather to change quickly, like every 15-20 minutes you could be in a different season. It's the reason why Chicago is known as "The Windy City". It's also the reason tornadoes don't come close to the lake. In the end, it refers to quick and massive changes.

Don't know if I missed it but at one point it sounded like Wednesday called Cordelia Friday.
