UK grandmother here. I've watched so many Dave, Black reactions from American's. Just want to say, your understanding of Dave's lyrics and your reaction was wonderful. The last verse was written for this performance (Brit Awards - your Grammy's) and has many British references that you may not have understood. All are worth looking up: Prime Minister (equivalent: your President). Megan and Kate (our Royal family, Megan is an American actress of colour and our UK press were dreadful, constantly comparing Kate and Megan to belittle Megan). Jack Merritt AND Saskia died at the London Bridge Terrorist Attack, trying to disarm the terrorist. Dave got to know Jack because of Jack's involvement with Dave's brother who is in prison - at Jack's funeral the family spoke about the many letters from prisoners praising Jack, who they knew through the Learning Together rehabilitation programme. Saskia and Jack were course coordinators on the Cambridge University programme, which aimed to bring offenders and people in higher education together to "study alongside each other". Greenfell Fire: 72 people died, mostly people of colour. Recent repairs to a tower block were "done on the cheap". After the fire there was a Government enquiry looking into manslaughter and corporate manslaughter, misconduct in public office and breaches of fire safety regulations in relation to the fire. Windrush: Some British citizens who came from the Caribbean after World War II have been treated terribly by our Government. Many were deported, detained, lost their jobs or homes, or were denied benefits or medical care to which they were entitled. A number of long-term UK residents were refused re-entry to the UK, and a larger number were threatened with immediate deportation by the Home Office.

R ToneyReactions mate the fact that there people out there that a willing to find a way to makes a difference shows that there is hope for a better world!!!!!! To show what I had to deal with, my 9 year old autistic son saw me and said “what’s up my N....” he dropped the N bomb and my heart sank. I asked where he hear it and what he thought it meant. He didn’t know it was a nasty word as the KZreadr he was watched was greeting a friend when he said it. So I played the below link to him: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dpOJmrqFdKnAnrw.html I the. Asked him what he thought of the word and what it meant, he said it was a nasty word used to make someone feel like they are not human. He won’t use it again and if he sees someone using it he will kick them in the throat to help them understand..... we obviously need to iron out the kinks to a avoid future imprisonments but he understands. Moral of the story, respect your kid’s intelligence, take care

The Kaepernick reaction was on point. The best reaction to this tune I have heard. I am Irish, born in the UK, and moved to Blackburn at 18 to play Ice Hockey (a town in Northern England) with 35% Pakistan/Indian/Bangladesh heritage, for 20 years. I embraced all the different cultures and have many friends from all backgrounds. My 25 year old son lives in London, one of the most diverse Cities in the World. Embrace different cultures, it makes you a better person. The more you experience other cultures the better person you become. Nice people are nice people, who gives a shite where they are from. My mother moved to the Manchester, UK in the 60's and there were shops/pubs where she lived that had signs saying 'No Blacks, No Irish , No Dogs'. Taught me to respect everyone.

Excellent reaction and analysis. I'm a white metalhead in England, honestly I don't generally enjoy rap. But there are exceptions and I can respect a talented artist and Dave is incredible. Some context for the parts in the last verse that may not have made sense. Maybe you got them all, maybe not, but some of your subs may not know them so hopefully this will help. "Now if you're not gonna get it then you're never gonna get it, how the news treats Kate versus how it treated Meghan" This is in reference to the wives of Princes Will and Harry. Kate Middleton (white) can do no wrong in the eyes of the British media whereas Meghan Markle (black, mixed-race, however you want to state it, not white enough for British media, it's awful) was and is criticised at every available opportunity. To the point that Harry and Meghan have withdrawn from public office and are really no longer affiliated with the royal family. Jack Merritt was a victim of the London bridge terror attack, he confronted the guy and sadly got killed. He was from an affluent background and yet was working in a program that was aimed at improving prisoner rehabilitation. A good guy doing good things. The Windrush generation: After world war 2 the UK was short on a labour force to help rebuild the country and economy. A lot of people from Carribean countries emigrated to the UK, were provided jobs and really helped revitalise and rebuild. I want to hasten to add this was voluntary, not like they were forced to come here or anything. They have lived here ever since, legally. However in 2018 many of them were detained and even deported, some who had been born here! This country owes those people and this is how they got treated, it sickens me. Grenfell Tower. This was a dark day in 2017. A fire broke out in a large Tower Block in a relatively poor area. A number of fuck-ups occurred one after the other and resulted in massive loss of life. It later transpired that there were safety concerns over the cladding on the outside of the tower. Those concerns were ignored. That cladding was the reason the place burnt as quickly and ferociously as it did. The government was responsible for this, whether local or national, it matters not, this should never have happened. Of those who survived, many STILL haven't been rehoused.

Stormzy dropped a video for his song Superheroes yesterday which is different but you'd like the message. Also, last night was the Rated Awards (UK Rap Awards) and Kano, one of the forefathers of Grime music, had a powerful performance of his song Teardrops. I would say react to it but his rap style is a little fast and unconventional so sadly I don't think you'll understand most of it. Definitely check it out eventually though.

Love your reaction, loving, real, emotional. You just didn't know what you were in for. And don't worry, we all cried to this, we are all with you. This is probably the most powerful track of the 21st century lyrically and musically, and Dave's way of telling things has thought everyone a lot more then any history book would. You wouldn't believe but there were 300 complaints against this performance citing racism. Insane. They were all rejected by Ofcom. America is sleeping on Dave sadly, missing out on a 21st century Tupac. Thank you for showing your love and sharing this gem. We adore Dave.

By far, my favourite reaction. By far. As a person from the U.K. Dave is a poet. A true artist in every sense of the word. Using his platform to speak from the heart. About the things that matter most. Tackling head on the issue of race. Inequality. And not giving a F who it offends.

Possibly the best, most honest reaction to this performance I’ve seen. Credit to you. Yet the UK government still denounce institutional racism, proven in the recent report on “Race and Ethnic disparities”. As a white, middle aged man it sickens me that this is even a debate or commission that needs to be proven. Maybe I have a slightly more informed view coming from a very integrated city (Leicester), we appreciate, adore and value all cultures that make our little piece of the UK special. Thank you bro.

Damn @R ToneyReactions ....I don't even know what to say but damn.... you made me cry. There were so many lines that broke my heart but the one about being the least racist still being racist was like a punch to my throat....I thought he said, their Prime Minister said they should be grateful that their country is the least racist but being the least racist is still racist and I didn't know if I was trippin so I looked up the lyrics and he said, "The truth is our Prime Minister is a real racist. They say, "You should be grateful we're the least racist". I say the least racist is still racist." So not only did he say one of the most poignant lines I've ever heard, but he risked losing fans and money by pissing people off with that line because it was the right thing to do. Just as Tupac and Em and NWA did with their music that went against the institutions in our country. Mad respect for him. People need to understand that every side of the coin is different. Both white and black people come from struggle and that needs to be understood from both sides. However, white people need to get that not every thing is about or against them and that we will never understand the things that black people feel because of racism and history. Like BLM. I've heard "Well don't all lives matter?" from white people so many fn times I couldn't count them and I say yes, they do. But did you ever ask a black person what they mean when they say that? And I always get a "no" from them. So i explain to them an analogy that stuck with me. "If there was a house on fire and none of it's neighbors houses were on fire, wouldn't you put water on that house to try to put the fire out? " and they always say yes, of course. And I say well, black people getting killed is the house that is on fire and it needs to be put out. That is why it's BLM. They are saying their lives matter too." So when I see them understand it because I say that, it saddens me because if we all would just talk to eachother, we would understand more. Just like you saying that not all black people are African. I asked a friend of mine one time if black people prefer being called African American? And she said no because I'm not from Africa. I was born as a black person in the United States so I'm a black person. I had never even thought of that until she said it. But she asks me questions too so that we understand things better and I'm lucky we can ask the hard questions and not get pissed. i still cry every time I see the two men at the end of I'm Not Racist. I always hope for a change and coversations and respect of different views.... sorry this was so long. I'm just passionate about my views in this time especially. Thanks for listening my friend. Blessings and love....

I'm knew you would like it! And I appreciate your point of view and your willingness to educate those that don't understand or those that choose to be ignorant! And yeah Dave is a rapper i came across doing this Reaction thing and he's by far my favorite rapper from the U.K. he's only like 25 and to be taking those stances with they prime minister and risking his career is 🔥🔥 he had another line where he said" equality is cool but it doesn't deserve CREDIT" like it should be already EQUAL! Don't look for pats on the back about providing something that shouldn't be missing from the world... Glad you enjoyed!

@@ToneyReactions That's why when you said thank you to me earlier when I was talking about protesting I said I hope one day I wouldn't be thanked for that. I shouldn't be thanked for standing up for basic human rights because we all are human regardless of our skin color and deserve to be treated that way. His lines, "Black is so much deeper than just African-American.Our heritage been severed, you never got to experiment With family trees, cause they teach you 'bout famine and greed." and "We all struggled, but your struggle ain't a struggle like me . Well how could it be when your people gave us the odds that we beat?" Dammmmm..... I mean the whole song is filled with barz but man, those and the Prime Minister one were the ones that pierced me the most. Just like on Untouchable when Em said, "Pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, where the fuck are the boots?" Some lines will forever stay with me.....

I'm money boy now?" that shows he was trying to do what really pleased him yet ppl on the block would try taking the piss outta for him for trying to play the piano. Ah mate there's another group, I was part of. Those who didn't think to know. Grew up too comfortable, ignorantly thinking everything was alright. This performance woke me up, and I'm still reading based on a fire it lit in me. I had a very visceral reaction to this, tears and all, but as he basically said "we all struggle but your struggle ain't a struggle like me" I can't even begin to approach how this will feel to those who live this like you do. This really calls out all the subconscious racism that pervades. I used to think along the lines of Britain's the least racist country on the planet, we can be proud of that. Really shown a mirror on that one. Love the reaction man, it's important to see what this means to people.
