Couple of things for non UK listeners. The Windrush generation helped build the UK again after WW2. They came from predominantly Caribbean countries at the invitation of the UK government. In 2018 many were threatened with deportation, denied legal rights, lost homes, lost jobs. Grenfell was a tower block in London that was destroyed by fire in 2017 killing 72 people. The fire was caused by dangerous cladding. Leslie Thomas QC who represents some of the families has repeatedly said, "Grenfell is inextricably linked with race..." It is worth a Google, same with Windrush. Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones (who was also pictured), were both killed in the London Bridge terror attacks. Jack and Saskia worked in prisoner rehabilitation. Jack worked with Dave's brother and he knew him well. Great reaction btw, thanks! The whole album Psychodrama is worth a listen.

As a mid 30 yr old white man from northern England. I’d never witnessed racism against the black community before and walked around in sort of a blind ignorance that it existed. This song awoke something in me, opened my eyes to the everyday injustices some people face. “We all struggle, but your struggle ain’t a struggle like me” - powerful. I think we can all concentrate on our own experiences and use it to think it’s comparable to others but this isn’t ever the case. I’ve watched 100s of reactions to this song because I love seeing it resonate with people. Dave has used music as the truly powerful instrument that it is and has completely changed my outlook on the world. I really enjoyed watching your reaction. Thank you.

I’ve watched so many of these reaction vids and yours by far is one of my favourites. When this song was on the BRITs (I’m from England, UK), I sat and watched it live with my eyes wide and tears streaming down my face. It’s a fucking masterpiece. As a white female it makes me ashamed to be white. I was mesmerised watching this. The piano. The lyrics. As he said “we all struggled, but your struggle ain’t a struggle like me”. White privilege is fucking real and the more people wake up to black lives matter, not all lives matter, then that’s the bare fucking minimum that is needed, 1000000 steps still need to be taken. ❤️

I'm a white kid from England and whenever I listen to this song it gives me the chills. I think its kind of sad that we have to have this whole movement that shouldn't be needed, we should all just get along. I know that's easier said than done and I always think to myself that there is no difference between what I black and I white person can do. So why do people try and degrade black people. We are all the human race. I have a lot of black friends and I dont see them any different to me. Its just unfortunate that they have a stereotype that the media and governments and law enforcements have given them and think they are all bad people. I think its the media that really tries to divide us all and I think it gets to some peoples heads which is unfortunate and they are the ones that end up as racists. Sorry if I said something that affects u, I'm just trying to get my point out but I'm not sure fully how to explain it. If u want another explanation just reply back

Saskia Jones was also killed that day and her picture follows jacks in the video thay studied the same course at uni.
Thank you.

someone mentioned about jack meritt already but the reason dave has a close connection to him is because dave’s older brother got 18 years for a murder and jack helped dave’s family massively throughout that. watch “dave - blackbox” if u wanna find out more about him. he was only 15 years old in that and it’s where his career started tbh it’s insane

I'm obviously white and British but this performance made me super emotional and still does everytime I see it, so I can only imagine how impactful it is to black people and it actually breaks my heart that stuff like this still needs to be said in 2021! 😔 Dave got a lot of heat after this performance from certain sides of the media but I'm actually proud that he used his platform to speak some much needed truths! ♥ Great reaction mate and a big shout out from London sw19 which BTW.... WE know why he was never given a chance, because he is all for EQUALITY! Something that Boris doesn’t stand for! You need to listen to Akala if this impressed you - he's got two doctorates, has lectured at Oxford, and is an educator bar none. Dave is very clearly influenced by him. Great reaction brother, I appreciate that you were able to understand his accent, not many American reactions caught all the bars like you did
I watch this performance at least once a month, so powerful
Wow I have no words I'm speechless! !!. Words spoken are such a powerful tool that can connect to your soul. This is one of those times jn a lifetime that words have spoken to my soul. I will be processing what I've just listened to today and see how as a white woman with a mixed race daughter and grandchild I can become a better ally and more productive person in making sure by the time my granddaughter is grown the world will be a kinder more respectful place for her to be in.

Great reaction btw. I am a bit late to the party and not sure if anyone has answered but you asked about the white guy featured on the video. Was called Jack Merritt, a course coordinator for Learning Together, a programme run by the University of Cambridge’s Institute of Criminology, had been at Fishmongers’ Hall next to London Bridge on when 28-year-old Usman Khan launched the knife attack. Merritt and one other person were killed and three others injured. He worked with prisons and prisoner in a programme called learning together on rehabilitation and fighting for fair justice and sentences for prisoners. He worked with Dave’s brother who was jailed for murder. Hope this helps

This was a great reaction to this performance (I’ve watched so many lol) Dave -Question time, it really explains our corrupt politics system in the UK. Try our female artists. hey as soon as I saw the thumbnail saying "protect Dave at all costs" I was like say no more I'm with you we've got to keep on fighting for liberation and equality and it starts with words and honest artist like dave I feel like when these artist uses their platforms in the strong and good way it's sort of like at the end of get out when Chris escapes the Armitage's "makes it out of there" and then he's got that harrowed look on his face cos he knows that he's gotten out of their but he knows that there is plenty more black people being mutilated by the Armitage's "whitie" I just feel that Dave is bad to speak out in to protect who he came from and genuinely hats off Dave hats off now I may not be black but I know that it starts with updating our thought and turning towards the racist because they're the problem it's a white problem not a black problem it's true we've got to be anti racist not just not racist love what ur doing and and who you're shining light on

As a human being this song moved me.

Rather unfair to judge British people by the number of complaints made. I don't know how many called in to complain, but it would only be a small percentage of people and not representative of the British people on a whole.
