Fun fact: _Zootopia_ is also called _Zootropolis_ in the UK, Ireland and other European countries (with all dialogue mentioning Zootopia rerecorded to mention Zootropolis instead), because a Danish zoo had already trademarked the term "zootopia". In Germany it became _Zoomania_ because there was already a German book called _Zootropolis._

@@_joilife Bitte Zoe, it's my pleasure. By the way this is the exact same reason _Moana_ was changed to _Vaiana_ in most of Europe, with again all the dialogue and songs mentioning Moana's name rerecorded...there was already a European trademark for "Moana". This time though it stayed _Moana_ in the UK & Ireland, so the _Vaiana_ English track was just for people watching the film in English with subtitles in France, Germany, Spain, etc.

For those wondering why Lucie was not on board with "Les Incroyables" being used, the French word "incroyable" is the primary translation for "incredible." However, while the English word "incredible" is used almost exclusively today to mean awesome, the French word "incroyable" is also commonly to mean unbelievable, weird, or outlandish. Without further context, it would be very confusing.

Fun fact: It's actually called "Les Incroyable" in Canada (for French Canadians, of course). Here it still is used for something unbelievable and awesome pretty exclusively, not for weird, so it makes total sense.

Bamse! (Swedish cartoon) Which also is the name of a weapon system (capitalised), which the author of the cartoon wasn't very happy about since Bamse, the little bear, is against violence. BAMSE stands for Bofors Advanced Missile System Evaluation, they never changed the name despite the critical voices. It can be noted that it is an air defence weapon and since Bamse the little bear always defended his friends it is kind of fitting.

She (German) translated "Powerpuff Girls" as "Kraftpuff Mädchen". No. Never going to fly on German TV. They would find ANY other random word to replace "Puff" in a German context. A "Puff" in German is a brothel. "Power Brothel Girls" is an entire different show!

The name is a play on the word "powderpuff", which in German is apparently Puderquaste. Therefore, "Kraftquaste Mädchen" would be a more accurate literal translation, but it doesn't really make any sense.

If someone is curious - this is how they are named in Poland: 1. Spongebob - Spongebob. - The name stayed like in origin. But the full name is ,,Spongebob Kanciastoporty" 2. Powerpuff girls - Atomówki (from an ,, Atom" word which means the same in English) 3. Toy story is still Toy story 4. The incredibles - Iniemamocni 5. Zootopia - Zwierzogród (from ,,zwierz" which means animal and maybe ,,ogród" which means ,,garden"?) 6. Inside out - W głowie się nie mieści. That's Polish idiom actually which means ,,beggar belief"? (I translated that in the internet so I might be wrong). Basically that means that sth is unbelievable?. But if you will try to translate it like it wasn't an idiom but the normal sentence it would be like ,,Something doesn't fit in the head". So that's a perfect title in that case ❤. 7. Tom & Jerry - Tom i Jerry. In Polish ,,and" is ,,i" and their names stay.

Interesting! In Czech it's: 1. Spongebob v kalhotách (means Spongebob in pants) 2. Raketové holky - which means "Rocket girls", but I'd swear that it use to be "Atominky" when I was little. Which is not a real word in Czech but like a blend of "atom" and "small girls" 3. Toy story: Příběh hraček (which basically means "the story of toys") 4. Úžasňákovi - basically a translation of The Incredibles 5. Zootropolis: Město zvířat (means The city of animals) 6. V hlavě - means "Inside the head" 7. Tom a Jerry

As far as 🇫🇮 I know our dear neighbour 🇸🇪 Sweden is usually abbreviated SE while the language is sv. 😉 I've never seen that SW before, to be honest... 🙃 EDIT: In Finnish, those movies are called (mind you, Finnish is very colloquial, e.g. Inside Out was a bit of a challenge): SpongeBob SquarePants ➡ Paavo Pesusieni (transl. Paavo Sponge) The Powerpuff Girls ➡ Tehotytöt (transl. The Powergirls) Inside Out ➡ Inside Out - mielen sopukoissa (transl. Inside the Mind, literal transl. In the Nooks of the Mind) Toy Story ➡ Toy Story The Incredibles ➡ Ihmeperhe (transl. The Miracle Family) Zootopia ➡ Zootropolis - eläinten kaupunki (transl. The City of the Animals) Tom & Jerry ➡ Tom ja Jerry

The Netherlands does not bother with most movie titles. We do have 'Binnenstebuiten' for Inside Out (a literal translation), but that's only used in the marketing towards kids. Spongebob Squarepants and Powerpuff Girls are still the same. Would have been funny if they went into the names, because Squidward is called Octo over here, which throws a wrench in the distinction between a squid and an octopus.

Hay 22 países que hablan español, y 22 distribuidoras independientes que pueden elegir nombres. A veces toda Hispanoamérica elige un nombre y España otro, pero a veces se eligen cosas diferentes según los países. Además, como comentó Andrea, últimamente se tiende a que los títulos sean lo más sencillos posibles para los niños.
